  1. thanks alot for your help, wha tkind of power have you seen this conversion produce, i am living in the united states and there is not alot of people that do these kind of conversions so i jus wanted to try something new, again thanks alot for your help guys.

What, you guys had enough of buying every sr20 on the market and driving the price up for the rest of us? Want to move onto something else to overvalue do ya?

(not that i won't sell you a rb30 short motor...)

  2. Import101 DO NOT HAVE STOCK IN JAPAN. They know how to ring a japanese exporter and buy from their stock list. There is a huge difference. What is stopping you ringing the japanese exporter yourself and buying the car without paying imports101 a service fee?

Of course, by stock I meant stock list. They don't officially have 'stock' as a broker. Although that won't stop them picking up bargins and on-selling them.

p.s. I have nothing against imports101 or anyone who works for them. I do have a problem ith people thinking getting a guy here to do some of the leg work for you is the only or best way to go.

And unless you have nothing better to do with your time, it definitely is the best way to go. How much time would the majority of us waste in $/hr chasing this stuff up that could be spent in making money? I don't know about you, but my time is a lot more valuable than that. Imports 101 (and other brokers i'm sure) take all the end to end hassel away from you. I could give you examples of cases where doing otherwise is clearly a waste of time if you really want it.

  3. Mat smiths power and torque curve is crazy  with this setup making for a very fast but highly drivable combo.

Is that the one that recently came out of per4manz? Heard good things about that too.

  4. $5k min? Hmm. A bit more than what I was thinking - not too much more, but a bit. Is that using a new block? Do you mind PMing me the price breakdown if you have it?

    :P Cam

That doesn't include the price of the new block but it does include the price of a 2nd hand block (which i needed for the crank and rods).

I'll pm you details when I get home. Good luck with whatever you choose.

  5. Gradenko - budget, not sure yet? Care to throw some figures at me? Was thinking of keeping the same head/intake/exhaust/turbo setup if I can.

$5k minimum for a basic rebuild. $7kish using forged pistons, arp bolted bottem end and standard rods shot peened. + extra for head porting, ecu, manifold, plenum, turbo, fueling, etc. But you already know that :P

Just wanting to actually see what one goes like.

Let you know in a month or so.

  6. skylinegeoff, as I mentioned earlier, I am using a r33 rb25det head. You are quite correct about the block, not that it has much relevance for this topic.

I posted the pic so someone could tell us if mine has been modified to fit a cam gear on intake. I was never told otherwise when it was fitted. How does it compare to a standard cam inlet front end? They are factory r33 rb25det cams on intake and exhaust.

  7. I am told its an R33 RB25det head.

The inlet cam has all that VCT crap on the front of the wheel. I havent seen this myself, but my mate who was putting the cam gear on said once he pulled the VCT stuff off there was just a single bolt straight down the guts of the cam gear holding it to the cam shaft... I thought this was weird as i thought they have 4 bolts plus a locating stud?

    any more info?

It should have 4 bolts. This is mine:

I didn't fit mine myself, so it's entirely possible that the workshop made an adpater to make it fit, but I seriosuly doubt it. Get around to your engine and take a close look at it yourself.

  8. You looked like you were having an ok weekend when I saw you adrian :D

Strichnine, totally sorry about not recognising you in future trance during push... even though I'd met you in a few hours earlier. Can see it now, strich9ine shaking my hand:

"hey dude, how you going tonight?"

"ah, yeah. you know. not bad. pretty good....... do i, ah, know you?"

    "its strich9ine!" lol :)

  9. go to the SARD 700CC bolt in injectors - sell your rail.

So, in spite of Sard injectors known for being hard to fit (not a drop in, even with collars!), hard to tune (non-standard injector lag) and as side feed injectors, generally a pain in the ass to remove and install (pintle caps off of the shelf are they?), you recommend them do you? They are the cheapest of the jap side feeds and it shows. If you *had* to go side feeds, the nismos or hks are a far better choice.

Rails cost nothing and theres a far greater range of top feeds. I don't blame the_tonkau for going this route.

  10. Well it was a bit of a standardish rebuild gone wrong.... hehehe where do i start....

Thats how they all go :)

    Garrett GT35R

    HKS lowmount manifold

Is that an internally gated gt35? What sort of specs? I was looking at an hks low mount manifolds (very nice!) for my gt35 my but it didn't look like the mainfold could be used with an external wastegate.

  11. as we were leaving i hear a loud "POP" and then not 10 seconds later, my car goes "chk chk churr griiiind kkk" and then stops in the middle of a one lane road right in front of a roundabout.

I'd be worried about exactly what it was that went "chk chk churr griiiind kkk" after the radiator hose popped. 10 secs worth of driving is a lot of revolutions of the engine!

(sorry, i never see the brighter side of things  )

  12. yeah...it's happened to me

the button sits on top of two little "arms" - the button snapped off there and looked like it was constantly depressed.

fixed it by taking the face off the climate control and plastic welded it back onto the arms...

    hope that helps :D

Yes! That happened to me as well. I'll pull the mofo out and fix it now. By 'plastic welded' did you mean melted together by the heat of a lighter? :P

  13. I say rebuild will be cheaper than 7k anyway - plus with forgies!

Nah, it'll be $7k minimum with forgies + head rebuild + turbos.

exhale 32, 26 head on a rb30 is a bit mismatched. The flow of the head is more suited for high revs, and the rb30 bottom end is never going to do that with a 7000rpm redline. Not without a new crank girdle and/or billet crank anyway.

By mismatched I mean a decent rb25 head will actually give more power at part throttle than a rb26 head. The rb26 head only really comes into its own at full throttle (larger valves) and high revs (solid valve train).

Still, if you want to go for it, just find someone willing to build it. It is a bit of a hassel though, with the drilling of larger 12mm head bolt holes in the block, tensioner positioning and the extra 38mm on block height. This is all imho :P
