Correct Conrad, why are engines so expensive in Trinidad, i was getting the vg30 for 6,000.00 where the rb25det would cost approx 12,000.00 and the rb25det neo goes for about 15,000.00. the sr20 would be around 12,000.00. don't even talk about rb26dett they would be 20,000+, its been a little while since i have gone looking for an engine but last yr when i decide to not fix the signgle cam and go turbo these were the prices i was getting. So i am not sure what the current prices are, but the longer i stick is the more expensive it becomes
  2. i drove in a cefiro with a 25det and it was d best, lots of power and fun, so that's my goal for my baby, just enough power to have some fun

Thanks guys, i really had my heart set on the rb25det but its just that i was getting the vg30de for half the price of the 25. so i would do some more research before making up my mind. i kind of like the idea of doing something different if you know what i mean, but if its going to be 2 nuch work then i would go with the 25. would let u know how it turns out thanks again

I am just doing some research, i have access to a vg30de engine in mint condition and i wanted to know if anyone has ever attempted to put this engine in a cefiro (a31). if this has been done what issues do you face when doing this transplant. the reason i am asking is that i am getting this engine for half the price of a rb25det, based on what i have seen the vg30 is only 30hp less than the rb25, so the savings might just be worth the 30 less hp. any ideas on this?   6. after three tries with different rb20e and with no success i have decide to go with taking a break and next yr look for a good rb25 engine. would keep u guys posted. till then
  7. hey need some advice, its a rb20e from a c33 The electrician wired up the tranny (automatic) i am getting reverse and drive but its not shifting into a higher gear. now the tranny has electronic speedo where as mine was originally manual, there are two sensors to the back by the yoke one on either side of the tranny, but attached to the transmission harness there is an extra sensor and its just hanging there (based on the design it bolts on to something), i cant find a place to put it, any ideads where this third sensor goes? or what's its for. I want to believe that this is the reason why its not shifting up, as not all sensors are hooked up. any help would be real good. thanks the electrician is not sure as well I know the oics are not the best but this is what i have and the engine is in the car already, i want 2 make sure i have done all i could to get it working before i take it out to get back my money thanks roger

In a previous post i stated where i bought a rb20e engine in min condition, i believe that it came out of a c33, now the harness is slightly different than mine, the jacks to the brain are the same however the ones that send signals to the dash are different so that part is not hooked up to the car's harness. but to me the critical things have been pluged in and therefore it should start, however its not, i am not even getting any spark by the no. 1 plug. i removed the harness from the engine and used back mine, so now all the jack plug back into each other, still not starting and still no spark by the number 1 plug. now the the tranny is a RB#2 where mine was originally RB#1 and there are two extra plugs from the tranny harness, this tranny is electronic speedo where mine was cable so i belive one of the extra jack is for that, but i am not sure what the other one was for. any ideas as to why its not starting and would this extra jack from the tranny be my problem? thanks roger

The head and block replacement on my RB20E did not work out, however, I was able to pick up a complete RB20E engine and tranny in mint condition, it even had the japanese sticker over the adjustment bolt by the distributor. the tranny that came with the engine has RB#2, mine had RB#1, What i wanted to find out was. 1. whats the difference between the Transmissions (RB#1 vs RB#2) and 2. Does the Transmission come with its own brain box, if its does where is it located as i can't find it. Thanks
  12. i wish, nah ifeel its a 24 head or 30 head they put on a 20 block, why i don't know, but its going by the mechanic on wednesday i fedup trying and with no luck, so i would let him sort it out, so lets hope

Daisu you are correct, my original engine was fuel injected, but it was hard to find a replacment one in good condition. this guy who i have bought engines in the past said he had a rb20 but with carb. and all i needed to do was use back my intake system along with the distributor. the engine was in good condition so i took it. on the block the engine number starts with RB20, i even took of the carb. myself, so it came like that from japan. now the tapit pan cover is shaped like the ones you find on the rb20ET. Based on what you guys are saying (that rb carbs mainly came on the rb24s and rb30s) so i am guessing that the person who had it in japan did a mix and match meaing put a 24 or 30 head on the rb20 block, If this was done to gain HP i don't know. I have tried to research the rb20 carb on the net but came up empty. The block is also different than my orig. one. it looks stronger, there are ribs on the side roughly where each piston chamber starts and finishes (like the rb30 block or even rb20ET) here are some pics

  16. the block had rb20 as part of the engine number, the head looks like the ones that came on the rb20et. The block also looks different than mine in that it looks stronger, now in trinidad the a31 were sold new as the altima which came with rb24 single cam carb., this engine was bought from a foreign used dealer who imports used parts from japan, so i am not sure if thats how it came stock.
  17. thanks guys i would run back over everything and make sure it was hooked up right, quick question is there any way to test these sensors? before i look to buy replacement parts, the car was down for over a year
  18. I have a cefiro with a rb20e engine, the head gasket blew and when i pulled off the head it was in a bad state. I purchased a rb20e (carb) head and block, took off all my parts and put it on to the new head and block (converted it to fuel injected, so i used my distributor, air intake etc.) set the timing to tdc, at first it would not start so pulled of my injectors cleaned and reinstalled, it starts and idles at about 500rpm however when i put my foot on the X to rev it i get no response, it feels like its going to cut off and when i remove my foot it picks back up. any ideas?
  19. quick question, when the new head is being bolted on should the pistons be at tdc? the reason i am asking is that i bolted on the head and lined up the cam with the required markings, however, the crank only turns 180 degrees and then locks up. as if it was bouncing on a valve. i did not put the pistions at tdc before bolting on the head. could this be the reason? any help would be good thanks

  21. I need some help, i blew the head gasket on my engine (rb 20e) when i pulled off the head the water ports were all eaten away. I purchased a 2nd hand one which was in good condition. every thing is bolted up, now i need some help with setting the timing. 1. how to position the cam and crank, what markings to look for 2. how to position the distributor. any help would be good, i know i should have just put in a 25 and done the talk, but my funds would not allow that, so for now i just need to get her back on the road. thanks
  22. I bought a clutch pedal set up from a r32 to put on my cefiro. but the there is a wire at the back of the clutch pedal similar to the one on the brake pedal. I wanted to know what this is for and does it need to be hooked up. thanks

  24. Hey guys i am getting an r33 diff (at a good price), the guy is a foreign used parts place, I told him its for my cefiro (a31), he claims it would bolt up. I wanted to find out if this is true, as i want to save myself the trouble of pulling down mine and then seeing that it would not bolt up. Do you guys know if it would work and is it a straight bolt on like the r32 diff (with the exception of the hand brakes) Thanks
  25. this down in Trinidad and Tobago so that's TTD so the non neo would be 12,000.00TTD and the Neo is 15,000.00TTD, now you could get it for less but this guy brings in good engines and i think its better to put the extra to get a good engine, plus if there are any problems he does not give trould to change the parts. yeah things down in trinidad real expensive.
