Thanks. What other test can be done to an engine to make sure I am not buying a lemon?

I am currently looking at buying a car which has had some parts removed. The intercooler, and radiator are not connected... The car also does not have an ECU..... I know that I need an ECU to do a compression test - but can someone please explain to me if the radiator or intercooler needs to be connected for a compression test?
