  1. also if you ran a hose from your exhaust into your car window you would be dead within a minute, cant get anymore toxic than that with or without your cat.
  2. What about cars from pre mid eighties that dont have cat converters. my bro has a killer xy gt that ran on av gas b4 laws changed, he hasnt dropped dead from toxic fumes.
  3. thanks for all the replies, was intending on putting a high flow cat anyway incase emissions were to be tested by my friends (police). Wasnt sure what cat actually did or what fines were. However you would be surprised how many people just ram a steel tube thru their cat to free flow it.
  4. hi, was wondering what the harm would be in replacing the cat converter with a straight thru pipe as i have one. besides the fact that its illegal but so is most of my mods. thanks
  5. hi mate, my r33 started bowing puffs of pure white smoke at high rpm which progressively got worse till it blew smoke all the time and at idle.It ended up being two pistons which had cracked on the side letting oil in.
  6. thanks for that, I am running standard ecu and do have a front mount.
  7. hi I have an apexi air flow controller (old style with dial) and was wondering how far back can you reduce it without causing my r33 to run to lean. dial goes back 3,6,9,12,15%. I have a standard ecu and am running 12 psi. does anyone have one of these set up already and can give me an idea or do i have to put it on a dyno. I have been told that more power is gained by leaning it out a bit from the rich factory settings. thanks
  8. hi, I ran my r33 on unleaded for 6months, it only pinged at very high rpm with boost at 15 psi. I wasnt thrashing the car alot and was a virgin to the import scene and thought nothing of it. After two cracked pistons and 5000 hard earned dollars later i now only use premium.
  9. I have a r33 running 13 to 14 psi with stock turbo using premium unleaded and was wondering if under flat accelaration is it unavoidable to get some pinging which i know is very bad. I also notice some black smoke from exhaust which ive been told is unburnt fuel due to the pinging. Is this correct and what can i do to stop damage to engine. thanks dean
  10. hi i was wondering if its normal for skylines to run rich at idle. I have a r33 det and at idle it smells really rich and under full throttle their black smoke out from exhaust. I have recently had my engine plus turbo rebuilt and know its not a mechanical fault. B4 my engine let go I had the same problem with richness, standard comp. and ecu is being used. Where do i start to look and would a afc do the job for me. thanks deano
  11. hi, just wondering if anyone knows what it actually does and if this could be causing my r33 to run really rich as my cat sensor doesnt work. does not show any resistance no matter how hot or cold cat is.Should i bother replacing it as they are expensive little things. thanks deano
  12. hi, my rb25 needs a rebuild and im considering rebuilding a rb30 bottom end and using the head from my rb25 after doing some mods to it. can someone tell me if this harder than what it sounds like. like does this engine fit straight back into my r33 and work with existing engine mounts and manual trans. am i wasting time and money and stick with the original rb25 engine. thanks dean
  13. hi, when i take the intercooler pipe from turbo its got oil in it aswell as when i take exhaust dump pipe off its oily and looks wet even after ive cleaned it out. so smoke must be comming from exhaust wheel of turbo. If turbo has been rebuilt does anyone have an idea of what else could force oil out of both ends of my turbo.
  14. yes was blowing smoke straight after but i also tried another second hand turbo and it did the same thing. smoke is white and is not consistent as sometimes its heaps and other times its less. B4 i rebuilt turbo it only blew puffs of white smoke at above 4000 rpm and went away. after rebuild it blows smoke non stop. Is their a place in adelaide sa that tests turbos of the car. thanks dean
  15. hi, my r33 skyline is blowing smoke at idle or any rpm and i cant seem to solve the problem. I had the turbo rebuilt thinking that would solve the problem but it still happens. Ive done a compression test and thats all ok. I disconnected breather hoses from engine but still smoke. took of oil dump pipe and ran oil into bucket to make sure wasnt a build up of pressure in turbo while engine is running. motor does not have high oil pressure and flowed 1.5 litres of oil in a minute from turbo oil feed. I am still getting oil leaking from compressor and exhaust side of turbo which must be why engine is blowing smoke but like i said turbo was rebuilt by someone who has a good reputation. can any one give me a idea of what to do as i have no ideas left. thanks dean
