  1. My budget adaptronic has the ability to be plugged into my phone for data monitoring and logging. I use it very rarely although it can be a very handy feature.

I just had a quick read about the Skyline ECU on the Adaptronic website, but couldn't find any info on this feature.

Can you explain a little more on how it works and connects?

  2. I haven't updated this in a while, but I've decided to get on the tools and get a few mods done to my car over these Christmas holidays.

Things that I've purchased are, a complete brand new engine and alternator wiring loom from wiring specialties (in the U.S.), a new Nismo fuel pump, a new Nismo clutch bracket and a new ARE intercooler.

The loom is still a few weeks away and it is the most expensive of these mods, but I've never been happy with the dodgy loom I've been living with. It was spliced together by an auto electrician when I did the RB25DET conversion over 10 years ago.

I got the clutch bracket swapped over this morning, it's not a particularly difficult job and took around 40 mins... The most frustrating part was getting the release spring back on.

Here is the new bracket beside the stock one, there's not a lot different to it. Just the extra piece circled, some extra tac welds and of course the Nismo grey paint, which adds an addition 5 bhp.

The reason I chose to swap it out was because I was hearing some squeaking from the clutch pedal, as you can see by the below pic I had a crack in the bracket.

  3. How hard is it to plug in a cable?

How fast is Bluetooth able to stream info for tuning/logging?

Everyone's circumstance is different, but for me the only reason I have stuck with a Power FC for over a decade is because of the hand controller.

I have a wideband permanently wired in and like option to tweak my tune from time to time. It has also been extremely handy in diagnosing faults with the car over the years.

Finally this appears like a modern computer that can let me upgrade and also give the benefits of what the hand controller does via a tablet.

As for the speed of Bluetooth for tuning that's probably for someone who has experience with this ECU to answer, rather than speculation.

  4. Another thing to keep in mind is you are running quite thin oil (30 hot weight). For years I used 10W40 as that was recommended for the engine, but always suffered oil misting out of the cam shaft seals (with multiple seal replacements over the years (and different catch can setups) to try and solve the problem. I went to 10W50 oil and that pretty much fixed the problem.

Oil technology is getting pretty awesome these days... I now use Hi Tech 10W60 fully synthetic oil. So it has the same cold viscosity as your 10W30, but does't thin out so much when hot.

I'm not saying that the thin oil is definitely the cause of the amount of blow by you have experienced, but it may be a factor.

  5. a hose clamp and 2x wire crimps aren't exactly brain surgery lol

Maybe not, but I've read mixed reviews on Walbro pumps, where as I've heard no negative comments about the Nismo pumps. It also includes everything for a painless swap, including the large o'ring that seals the fuel pump opening. The flow of the Nismo pump is a good match for the rest of my gear (injectors, turbo etc) so the higher flow rate of the Walbro would be a waste.

  6. the 6758 and 7163 are both available in vband inlet, external WG config. The turbine housings are stainless steel its easy to weld a T3 flange over the Vband inlet. I posted a photo of this somewhere in this thread if you need me to dig it up. these will make a GT-RS seem like a dinosaur

    Geoff,

Can you provide a v-band EFR turbo already modded to T3?

Which in your opinion is a better replacement for the HKS GT-RS, the 6758 or the 7163? I don't want a less responsive turbo, but the 6758 doesn't look like that much more power than the GT-RS.

    Thanks

  7. Fair enough, I thought they would have improved spool time but I guess not (Makes sense, longer distance for gasses to travel).

I guess I'll just shoot for external gate and e85 next then :)

It's not about the longer distance for the gas to travel, but rather the speed at which it travels.

The pipe diameter is dictating the speed of the exhaust gasses, and the larger diameter of the 6 Boost setup slows gas speed in the lower revs and delays the spool of the turbo. That larger diameter runner however, will allow better scavenging and more total exhaust flow in the high RPM (and hence more peak power) provided there isn't a restriction past that point. ~ Dump pipe, exhaust, cat etc.

In the case of my setup (the 1" runner tuned length MX manifold) gas speed is maximised early in the rev range and the spool is almost instant... I have positive boost from 1200 rpm with a HKS GT-RS turbo.

What I have had to do though is bypass the internal waste gate on the GT-RS and run an external gate, as the turbo struggled to control the boost with the extra speed of the gas flow.
