  1. A dyno is unable to simulate road conditions. So you wont, or shouldn't as the findings will be flawed. Depending on the power level a pod isn't required, do remember turbos don't experience the same loss of power as an N/A due to an inlet restriction. I believe SK has also stated this in a previous similiar discussion. The better flowing pod will make very little if any difference to power levels, providing we are talking sensible street usable power levels, not 800hp through a stock airbox. Therefor 'I' conclude, A pod for street sensible power levels only has negative affects on performance... 1. The inlet air temperature is higher, resulting in a higher actual outlet temperature 2. The higher actual outlet temperature will heat soak the ic quicker 3. The air entering the motor is going to be higher, hotter air is less dense and promotes detonation. Both of which will reduce reliability and power, I forget how much power is reduced by every degree air temp is raised. But there is a real power loss.
  2. I'd tend to stick with what you are using... The bloke who built up my engine said to choose an oil and stick to it, not to flick between one or another. Why? I'm not sure.. maybe detergent levels? Maybe a thing in the past? One oil may not clean so well, throw an oil in that does and something may dislodge causing damage.. Really I don't know, its only speculation.
  3. <chants> 20psi, 20psi, 20psi, 20psi </chants>
  4. Such a small combustion chamber. Do remember the bore of the rb20 is 78mm or something.. So thats a 7mm over hang all the way around.
  5. The later models (not z31 vg30 that are more similiar to the VL Turbo T3) run the exact same center as the R32 RB20DET turbo, the center being that the center bearing cartridge, turbine and compressor wheels. So in other words, the later model vg30det turbo's are an RB20DET turbo with slightly larger compressor and turbine housings.
  6. Combustion pressures... Have it pinging at low rev's with bugger all load is nothing like have a motor pinging thats making large amounts of power for its capacity.
  7. As it only occurs at full throttle....... Nights are colder than day, colder air is denser, denser air requires more fuel, fuel can't be supplied as fuel pump is on its last legs and finally.... as the fuel pump is on its last legs the cooler denser air is enough to have it start pinging. Time to throw it on a dyno for a cheapo power run to see whats going on. Everything you have described indicates this, apart from the faster as engine rev's increase. Unless you mean louder? I have this horrible image in my head of you holding it down going yea see its getting faster, as the detonation becomes more and more intense sounding, but surely a motor couldn't live through such abuse. So... I'm back at square one.. nfi. Could be a million things. Get some one to look at it.
  8. I was playing it safe as I don't really know re: the stock deck height I don't believe the std pistons sit down in the bore as the calcs don't work out.. So with a 0 deck height (as stock ratio calcs work it out to be) mr frogy will have a 9-9.2:1 comp ratio.
  9. Well my golly gosh.. With a 43cc combustion chamber he will achieve 8.5-9.2:1 comp ratio with the turbo turbo pistons. The comp ratio variation will depend on deck height.
  10. Thats not bagging a business... Its simply stating who stole your stuff.
  11. Yes stick with the std housing... and run an adaptor if it fits.. kwazza11... Any clearance issues you can see by adding 20-30mm?
  12. With the 52-53cc RB25 head it works out to some where around 7:1 but as the rb20 head has a smaller combustion chamber it will be slightly higher. What did the rb20 head cc up as?
  13. Ahh yes thats on the open road... Mine too was awesome on the open road but doodling around the city it was terrible.
  14. Its not hard to get nasty if something of yours gets ripped off. Good work to the bloke who supplied you with the info. Top stuff, deserves a night out on you.
  15. hardly... I return 10.5-11L per 100km's. Pretty damn good from an RB30DET. Stick the boot in yes it will suck quite a bit of fuel. The point is I can cruise around and return excellent fuel economy. My previous VS v8 5speed would suck the juice no matter what. It would average around 15l/100km's, BIG difference from the little R32.
  16. Clearly the tune was not equal then... OR some form of restriction within the STOCK ecu was causing problems.

    Targeted!

Do remember he did let you off for an EBC. His intentions for pulling you over obviously changed once he saw possibly you were not the person who he thought you were. Quite possible... Especially as he decided not to defect which I still can't believe he didn't as an EBC is an instant defect in the majority of cases. Hide that ebc as next time he see's you...... especially if a complaint is made when there doesn't appear to be any real harassment.

So no defect for EBC?? Wow... Very lucky.
  19. Magik32, please do a search as this comparison has been covered extensively. EDIT: I've just done one for you. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...hlite=%2BWolf3d
  20. Better pics of the ECU using the camera's macro function would be great. It looks EXACTLY the same as the R32 RB20DET PowerFC.
  21. How does molesting the nissan turbine housing really affect spool? Does it at all? If so, I would tend to still look in to the adaptor plate, there appears to be plenty of room near the suspension tower to handle a 20-30mm shift.

    Targeted!

I've had the car around 4.5years now and its never had an issue with the window tint... BUT this day I was definitely picked out of a bunch. But life goes on, its to be expected with boy racers owning these type of cars and flying around, crashing resulting in front wheels being smashed backwards as a result being charged with dangerous driving or what ever it is and being defected for exhaust noise, also being caught doing burnouts with bald tyres in a car park or where ever it was.. You know who you are. My previous car was a VS 5ltr 5speed, lowered, mags, loud exhaust. That got more attention than any of the cars I've owned. Today was just my day and thankfully it turned out ok. Today was defect day... It was interesting to note they were defecting a lot of the older cars. yes I watched while the other half went in to marion. Ahh well it will get my arse in to tidying a few things up on it.

I've cleaned the windows all up and it still looks like they have an ever ever so slight tint. I can see this with the door open. I'll have to get it checked as if they do have std tint the right side of my face will be burnt come summer again. All I want is the UV cut, the tint place said the lightest tint they have is 70%.
  24. Thats really difficult to say.. I have NFI.. For any turbo that size you are always looking at 4000rpm+.

    Targeted!

I was whats considered targeted today just before turning in to Marion Shopping Center. I was approaching Marion Shopping center to turn in to the southern entry/exit when I noticed a heap of police on both sides of the road, I was in a group of cars and in the right lane heading west to turn in to marion, the motor bike cop walked in front of and stopped the traffic, walked inbetween the cars up to me (2nd car back from the leading) and asked me to pull over. I pulled over, he walked up and said random license and registration check, so I pulled out my license as he looked over the car briefly, he said my front window tint is too dark (which it is/was as its 35% all round + being in a coupe makes it look darker again), he then went on to say how he is going to give me a warning but do be aware if I am defected I will be sent to regency for a full inspection. So.... I pulled the tint off, I've always known it was illegal but stupidly chose to leave it on so really its my own fault. It doesn't look so bad, the only real reason I had it tinted in the first place was to stop the side of my face being burnt on the way home in peak hour traffic, For $100 I can get the 70% clear 99% UV film on the front windows so hopefully this will do the trick.. being 99% UV rated I can't see why not. Now that I'm aware its unbelievable how many cars have tint thats too dark on the front windows, I'd say a good 80% of cars I saw on the way home all had tint that was too dark. GTSTD1, A quick question, for a defect such as tint I was under the impression minor defects can simply be cleared at the local police station? Or is this IF you live outside of the CBD by 40km's? I remember reading some where regarding living 40km's outside of the CBD allowing you to clear some defects at the local police station. I think its also time to throw another muffler in, my car is quiet but I still think its too loud; I might head down the local police station and ask for their opinion if its considered defectable. By all means as I said it is quiet but 90db isn't very loud. I did ask D&T for a legal sounding exhaust when I purchased the car but I think he said it was just to shut me up.
