  1. Freebaggin, Still running the stock Bottom end?
  2. Here's a genuine garrett engineered item for us RB30 heads. 550hp http://www.gcg.com.au/Catalogue_Menus/Garr...tbb_gt3071r.htm more you want moooore... http://www.gcg.com.au/Catalogue_Menus/Garr...b_gt3540_iw.htmhttp://http://www.gcg.com.au/Catalogue_Menus/Garrett%20Ball%20Bearing%20Turbochargers/garrettbb_gt3040_iw.htm' target='_blank'>
  3. hehe thats what I was referring to... I would prefer the GCG option over the horsepowerinabox option as I don't know the history and results the turbo produces.
  4. Thats just it GunMetal. GCG have been around for quite some time and appear to make very reliable turbo's. Lots of testing and in their earlier fiddlings lots of surge. They have since pulled the 500hp model as it was possibly over compressored. The GT30 500hp from Horsepowerinabox I doubt with the internally gated .63 will make much more than 250rwkw. As the GCG unit tends to make ~240-250rwkw also.
  5. I was quoted slightly under $2000 for a GTR, that was rating 1 under 25.
  6. Get them to make a strut brace that steps behind the motor similar to a VL Commodore one. I can then bolt it on the RB30DET. Where's the link?
  7. It comes down to you get what you pay for. As usual. A cheap bush style highflow is around the 1k mark. A BB core highflow is always up around 2k. GCG charge around $1900. GCG are fairly well proven to highflow a turbo that is reliable and doesn't pop, I'll spend my money with them. I could do the GT30/35 external gate thing but honestly big gates hanging out the engine bay really make me paranoid. Sambo, Its making 175rwkw at 4400rpm then peaks up to 176rwkw (wow) by 4800rpm then drops to 176rwkw by 4950rpm then tails off to ~130rwkw or something by 6000rpm. The stock rb20det turbo is waaay to small for the rb30. It peaks to 12psi as soon as boost is made then quickly tails off to 9psi, this is on the stock actuator pressure. So the peak figure is made on 9psi, not too bad for a little rb20det turbo. The Rb20DET needed 15psi to make 164rwkw so it goes to show how much better the rb25 heads flow.
  8. Simple.. Get a R32 GTS4, over time build up an R32 RB25DE or Rb30, some nice headwork and lumpy cams. Bolt on a suitable turbo 500-600hp turbo and off you launch with your head stuck in the seat running your high 11 sec 1/4's on street tyres. At the end of the day you are going to need 4wd to get any decent amount of power/torque down to the ground. But where does it end?? Just don't let their power figures scare you as my little old R32 RB20DET running 16psi and making 164rwkw used to hold its own against a 280kw LS1. 164rwkw is around 220kw at the fly, thats 60kw less than the mightly ls1 to accelerate at the same pace.
  9. Me? AP PowerFC. Freebaggin is doing pretty damn well with his Tim Possingham highflow special. 313rwkw from memory.
  10. I've picked my self up a VG30DET BB turbo with plans to get it highflowed by gcg later on down the track. Anything over 250rwkw I'd be happy with. For now I will be bolting it on with an adj. FPR (maybe injectors depends on $$) to see what she gets. I'm expecting around 210rwkw peak some where around 5500rpm. Unfortunately I can't spend money on the highflow at the moment as I need to get the suspension and diff sorted. The subframe bushes are nackered as is the diff, it now some times breaks out in to a single spinner when jumping on the gas in second, if it doesn't do that it breaks out in to a nasty axle tramp due to the stuffed subframe bushes.
  11. Rb30e.. ~1100 Rb30e rebuilt, balanced, better bearings, a little more time take etc $1800. The cost is fairly straight forward. Check the local rag or tradingpost it states in there what motors are worth to be rebuilt.
  12. sproosy, This question has been asked many times. Read the PDF, then go away and find your self an engine builder and ask him what he wants to rebuild an rb30, find out how much you can get a head for etc.. Its not brain surgery.
  13. Bass Junky, Are you sure they don't have any? I was in there only a few days ago and they had quite a few. Your not confusing Option1 Garage with D1 Garage? Discopotato, I plan on initially running the as is VG30DET turbo, I'm keen to see how well it goes. I know the RB20DET turbo makes 175rwkw on 9psi from 4400-4950rpm. Lets see how the vg30 differs. I figure it should make 210rwkw on the dyno that I run on (rb25's make 190-200rwkw with rb25det turbo's and approx 11psi). Should be interestering too see. To be honest the exhaust a/r doesn't look much bigger than the rb20det turbo i'm running. When I was up at D1 Garage I noticed there are 2 different types of rb20det turbo's, mine and a smaller looking one. It has what looks like a smaller exhaust housing and a different designed compressor inlet, mine steps up to the compressor wheel where as the other smaller one has a smaller inlet steps down then steps back up to the compressor wheel.
  14. I know D1 Garage does them for $550. He sounds flexible on price.
  15. Additive is to help protect the head.
  16. I picked mine up last night.. whahahah. I managed to pick up a second handy one that apparently works (it feels and looks in good nick) for $300. Thanks for not cutting my lunch Bass Junky. lol I'm starting to doubt it is in fact a .81 or there abouts. I've got a what was meant to be a .82 ARB GT35R machined housing. The GT35R housing is quite a bit bigger. I'll have to find out how to measure the a/r and well... Measure it!
  17. Nice power. It was some time ago, right back when you first had the microtech fitted up.
  18. The R33's run low 13's when an exhaust, fmic, powerfc and a bit of boost. Some have even managed a high 12 sec pass with a well sorted rear end. Grab your self a decent R33 with an exhaust and possibly fmic, drop in a powerfc and it will be running the times you want. Providing you can drive that is. lol Those XR6T's can launch pretty hard off the mark. If you can't drive you'd better go the 4wd.
  19. Freebaggin, I remember Tim mentioned to me quite some time ago how it wanted to pin when VCT engaged. Nice power but.. That snuk up there without me knowing. Last I remember it was around 270rwkw. Still running the same turbo? I suspect not as it appears to ramp up around 4k?
  20. Ahhh.. I run the R32 RB25DE head.
  21. I was always under the impression the VG30DET housing was a .82 and the RB20/25 turbine housing a .64? EDIT: Apparently its the VG30ET housing thats a .63. Not the DET.
  22. The RB30 actually has smaller oil head oil restrictors than the RB20DET/RB25DET. My R32 RB20DET and the stock dash guage used to drop to zero and show the redlight when jumping hard on the brakes. The RB30DET does this also. It flashes on for a fraction of a second. But its scary enough I don't do it. I suspect it 'may' be the stock guage playing up under hard brakes as the rb20det clocked ~170,000km's and was still fine. I'm not going to try my luck though.
  23. Mine wasn't run in on the dyno, it also still had a little blow by at 1500km's. Having still a little blow by at 1500km's meant that it wasn't completely run in. I extended my run-in to 10,000km's before synthetic oil as many manufactures recommend (Mainly in the US). Now I have zero blow by.
  24. lol yer its the rb30det. If you have ever driven a Late Model Nissan Patrol 3.0TDI it has the same power range feel as that but obviously much more gutsy everywhere. 4400-4950rpm peak power actually is not fun as the gears are too short and you don't get to wind them out. Its awesome around town, easy pulls harder off the line than v8 commodores by simply letting the clutch out and accelerating. Wheel spin is a problem at the moment as it comes on so hard so low in the rev range.
  25. I'm not exactly sure. The head has 2 oil return galleys, I think. lol It also has 2 oil restrictors, the rb30's oil restrictors are 1.8mm vs the rb20det's 2.8mm's. RB26's generally have one of these blocked off. But we have to remember the rb26 head requires less oil so to speak, solid followers vs hydraulic and no vct.
