  1. Awesome that helps alot So in essence, two things 1) if the spark plugs in there were no good , the car would be almost 'untunable' to begin with 2) if the tuner cant work that out from the start, then he's one dumbass of a tuner Thanks
  2. Dumb Question so please excuse me: If a car is tuned after being all decked out , ie injectors, pump, fmic, turbo etc etc if then AFTER the tune, you install brand new spark plugs would this throw out the tune? ie, would it need to be re-tuned

Did some research on types of bearings, and what 'bearing' (excuse the pun) they have on how your turbo performs in terms of response etc. I would appreciate everyones thoughts as i am NOT an expert and can only research so far. Is paying the extra $$$ for BB really worth it after reading this? The type of bearing does NOT affect at what rpm the turbo begins to come on boost, not at ALL. Thats the biggest thing they dont mention. People hear the word "spool" and suddently think a BB turbo will come on boost at half the rpm of an otherwise identical one with a plain bearing. Wrong. No difference at all. What a BB turbo WILL do is go from say 1psi to full boost faster than a plain bearing turbo once in the boost threshold (the boost threshold is the rpm level where you put your foot down, and it comes on boost, as all engines have an area low in the rev range where it doesnt boost at all), but even according to the biggest promoter of them, Garrett, its only 15% faster, FIFTEEN PERCENT, thats, well, hardly noticable. Think about it, your at 4500rpm, you put your foot down, how long does it take to hit full boost? Blink of an eye? Maybe a second or even two if your car's really laggy. How much has spending maybe double the money buying a BB core turbo gained you? Yup, 15% of one or two seconds, thats less than a blink of an eye, certainly nothing a human being would really notice, and nothing that would make a dent on a performance time. Dont get us wrong, is money was no issue and we wanted the perfect car, we would say BB all the way, but unless we all win the lottery (and then im sure we wont be worrying about this!) money is an issue, and paying an extra 500quid for something you wont even feel, just because the salesman told you its good, is frankly ridiculous when there are SO many more effective ways to improve your performance or indeed, increase spoolup speed. Wheel size and type (compressor and turbine), turbine housing a/r, exhaust gas temperature, turbine housing style, and much more all can make a HUGE difference to when and how your car spools up, much much more than what a BB core will do, and usually much cheaper too. Basically, dont worry what core it has, worry it is the best specced turbo for your application (ie not the huge a/r old junk at the top of this page, for example!).

  5. Ok so basically i was looking at upgrading a R34 NEO GTT Turbo to a HI Flow. (Yes i am aware there are nummmmmerouns amounts of topics on this to which i have gone through and read, quite informative also) I spoke to Fred, and he does a plain bearing upgrade using garrett cartridge etc and rates the turbo to be up to 450HP. Now i had a squeeze at differences between ball bearing and plain bearing etc and came to personal opinion that if you regularly service with GOOD oil and also cool down your car after giving it a thrash, then the plain bearing is fine. BUT what i would like to know, is how big a difference is the response levels (down low moreso) between the two bearing types. Thanks heaps guys

  15. Excuse my lack of knowledge.. but can someone explain to me whether a non puck type clutch is effective for a 250-330 rkwk rb25 skyline. Basically i've been told only about puck type clutches 3 , 5 , 6 etc etc. BUT i was also told about non puck type clutches such as "ceramic lining clutches" which do not have individual pucks (buttons), but unsure if these are ok. Say for example a ceramic lining with 1000kg I got some info on them here below, but don't understand if theyre ok or generally used? Ceramic Of all types of linings, ceramics offer the highest co-efficient of friction at around 0.48-0.55. This means they can be used with a lower clamping force pressure plate as the lining provides the grip. But because of this attribute, they cause a lot of wear on mating surfaces and shudder can be commonly encountered. Ceramics can take more heat than an organic material, but deliberately slipping the clutch tends to burn up the flywheel and pressure plate more than the lining.

  20. Can someone explain the difference in having a standard SMIC for an ER34 GTT and say a Trust SMIC replacement. I do not know the dimensions of the Standard SMIC for er34, would anyone know? @ least then i can compare to the aftermarket Nissan Skyline ER34 RB25DET 98/5-01/6 SPEC-R Type 13 H194/L250/W119mm 3 Layer that Trust make and say whether or not thickness of core makes a difference. But if they are same dimesions..whats the point of changing the standard with the aftermarket SMIC? Cheers steve
  21. Hi folks im new here, but been a reader for quite sometime. Ive gone through all the search for SMIC but none so far can answer my question. Can someone please list a suitable "AFtermarket" SMIC for the ER34 GTT. I do not want FMIC for various reasons, mainly not for defect purposes and also dnt want to cut the car... and tiny reason would be lag, but im not so much worried about that Someone suggested the blitz lm but im not sure if thats an option to be side mounted :S given its size. please excuse my ignorance if it is. Also there is a trust SMIC (same position as stock gtt intercooler) size around 200x195xbla bla something like that give or take...but are these aftermarket SMIC that much thicker in core size to make a difference? Cheers for any advice. NB: A bit of background on my car ER 34 GTT Mods - hitech (lambros) full 3in exhaust pod filter using standard airbox power fc tuned by paul fisher running bleed valve @ 12 pound Car currently makes 210 rwkw on pauls dyno @ pulse racing Thanks again STEVE
