  1. Hi Paul,

Ok, so I got my R33 RB25DET back from the tuner with a new turbo installation with the following:

    Garrett 3037 turbo

    Top mount manifold

    SARD 550cc Injectors

    Bosch 023 Fuel Pump

    FMIC

    Profec B Spec II BC

    PFC

    and more supporting mods...

Although they done a good job with the turbo/piping installation, the tune im not too happy with and need some advice on.

My problem is, when my car is cold, the revs surge from around 1300 to 1800rpm (this goes away when the car warms up), the tuner said he had no idea why this is happening and mentioned that the PFC doesnt have a cold start tuning option (if this makes any sense)?

The other thing he said was at high revs it knocked too much, so he reduced the timing right down to around 15deg IGN timing and now its very sluggish. He said that getting a high flow cat might fix this problem?

Im not too cluey when it comes to tuning and ECUs, so if you could shed some light on this situation it would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Mick

PS. I just checked the Injector latencies on your PFC docs, and im not sure if the tuner set mine correctly, they read 70% and -1.30ms, souldnt they be 67% and +0.052 for SARD 550cc in RB25DET?

  2. For Sale: HKS 2530kai bolt on Turbo Kit for RB25DET

    Location: Canberra, ACT

Info: The turbo is very responsive (full boost at 2700rpm) and has GREAT mid range power. It has an HKS actuator, comes with HKS oil and water lines, split 3" Tuneagent dump pipe + front pipe and Tuneagent exhaust manifold. Basically comes with everything you need to install it yourself.

Bought the kit brand new about 10 months ago for $2800, it only has around 8,000kms of use, very little no shaft play (welcomed to inspections).

Great upgrade from stock turbo with minimal requirements.

At last tune, turbo made 230rwkw at 18psi with stock injectors and PFC.

Asking Price for the whole kit including manifold and dump/front pipe is $1200.

Reason for sale, is im upgrading to a 3076R.

Pics below, PM me if interested.

  3. hey thanks for the replies guys..

Firstly, Nicky-poo, it IS the proper color i just adjusted the contrast seeing as how i used my iphone to take the pics and its low res, oh and Im not from sydney, im from a little town near Canberra on the NSW border..

Secondly, Lint, thanks dude, but it already has rims and cable ties lol..

  4. Hey mate, if your still in the market for a turbo, Ill be selling my HKS 2530kai bolt on turbo for R33 GTST within the next week or so, reason for sale is im getting a 3076R installed. The turbo has done around 8,000km and has very little to no shaft play.. its a very responsive turbo and has great mid range power.. PM me if your interested for an inspection...

PS. in that pic above, it doesnt look like you have blocked off your stock solenoid, someone correct me if im wrong, but isnt the stock solenoid still connected to the ECU and therefore tells the ECU there is nothing connected to it and cuts out fuel (therefore the popping)?

ive added pics below of mine, the stock solenoid is sitting behind the Turbosmart T, notice i got 2 hoses still connected to the stock one and the one thats meant to go back to the wastegate is blocked off..

  5. Nice write up mate, im also going to be installing a 3076r very soon, but i got the externally gated version with avo rear, so i will be needing custom piping to be welded up.. ive been quoted around $2000 for the installation and piping, thats including relocating the top intake piping that goes over the tappet covers because i got a top mount manifold. does this sound a bit too dear?

  6. Good lubricant is lifestyle lubricant, comes free in boxes of 12; if its good enough for little johnny, its good enough for the box.

lolz na, ill vouch for the castrol tranzmax z though, i use it in my r34 gtr transfer case and it fantastic. For my gearbox i use v160

'lil johnny' must be doing something wrong if he needs 'lifestyle lubricants' ;)

  7. nice power runs mate... ill be installing a 3076r EW 0.63rear in the next month or so, got the 550cc sards ready to go in as well, hoping to get around the same figure as my tuner said for a safe tune between 270 and 280rwkw with stock internals..

just wondering how much the installation cost you? including piping, tune etc?

  8. Spotted a wingless Gold R33 GTST yesterday in Fyshwick and followed him down Monaro Hwy (he turned off heading to jerra). Gave a wave in fyshwick and got a nice dagger wielding stare back.. Tuff mate, real tuff. *insert rolling eyes emoticon here*

you must need glasses mate, cause i waved back at ya.. checked out ur 33 as i was driving past and that was it.. its funny how people make something out of nothing..

  9. I have a Snow Performance stage 2 boost cooler waiting to go into my car, just remember though that a WMI kit does need you to check that the reservoir has fluid in it regularly, if the car is tuned to make full use of the WMI kit and its empty your engine may not like it.

yeah i've looked into this, there are different brands (Devils Own WM kit) which include fluid level switches that notifies you if the WM level is low, i've also heard of timing retard/cutout switches as well, they detect if the reservoir is running low or empty, and if so, then decrease the timing and/or boost pressure by going into safe mode (a bit dearer but its worth it if it ends up saving the engine)..
