  1. Only 3 cars, but I was expecting a lot more. Sunny day, open roads and I only saw 1 police car the whole day! What stopped the numbers from showing up?? I've got a photo or two which I can post soon. Ended up going through the Black Spurs and onto Eildon. Great Fun! Heaps of Twisties!
  2. I'll be there! Is it common for an organiser to provide this amount of detail for a cruise? Is it normal for the organiser to make themselves known? Like to I carry around a A4 page with the letters "TheGoobie" on it? Or do I say just keep an eye out for the lowered, black '33 with the front mount and the Alpine sound system? Becuase that could be more then one car. I'm really new at this so please go easy one me...
  3. I've heard of these types of events where you can get a handful of 'official confimations', but since I haven't clicked on the link for this cruise 600 times, I'm assuming that a lot of people might have taken down the details and not posted anything. That is to say that if they were even members who could post anything in the first place. I have seen someone link to my first post on the Silvia site. This is my first attempt at organising something like this, so I have no idea what to expect from the amount of hits to this topic.
  4. Nice! Rest assured, there will be plenty of people you could hitch a ride with if you break down. Will you be coming with anyone? If there is a huge amount of people coming on Sat. we will need to use the car park at the park in Yarra Glen. It’s about a 2 minute walk to the Grand Hotel. ::: ALL PARTICIPANTS PLEASE NOTE::: After Yarra Glen we do not turn towards Healesville immediately! We proceed down the B300 towards Coldstream and we turn left on the B360 towards Healesville. This turn off is about 500m from the centre of Coldstream.
  5. How is it possible for your car not to run for 2 hours on a day like Saturday? I have no idea how the word of mouth has spread for this cruise, and the carpark at the meet point has about 40 spaces. If there isn't enough room at this carpark, there is another 50(?) spaces about 40m away at the Library. I have attached a photo of the area.
  6. Google earth is great. This is the enterance to the park. It's about 3.5km out from the centre of Healesville. I've also marked the position on the map of the photograph that Wyseman took as the lookout.
  7. Hey Wyseman, great photo of the lookout! It's a great area to see the whole dam from above, but we will be heading into the reserve at the base of the dam. There is a bigger carpark and more space. Let's just hope the weather holds up for us. Does anyone have any other photos of the area they would like to post?
  8. If we leave South Morang at 4, we should be getting close to Yarra Glen at about 4:45 or so. If the cruise numbers are up we might stop there for about an hour or so and grab a drink at the Grand. If you're coming from a while away, you might miss us. Is there a possibility that your friend can finish work a little earlier? Chances are we will be heading back in the same direction too so if we're not at Yarra Glen, you can meet up with us at Maroondah Dam and head back with us.
  9. Looks like the numbers for the cruise are slowly stacking up. Just to everyone is aware, we're not stopping in Eltham as on the map. I had to add a 'stop' into whereis.com to get the trail to lead through there. The only real scheduled stop will be in Yarra Glen. I have attached a photo pf the major landmark at Yarra Glen - The Grand Hotel. I think that'll be the best place to find a park and meet. I have also attached a photo of the vew from the road about 8kms onto the Yarra Valley. Sorry about the crappy quality but is the best one I could find. The most difficult part in keeping together will be between Greensborough and Eltham. After this it's basically just a 'straight' road to the first meet point. After that, we just need to follow the signs to Healesville.
  10. I recon that if people behave themselves and stick to the road rules and don't make fools of themselves we will get no more than 'double take' looks from the police. It's not the sort of road to be pulling handbreak tuns on (however fun it might seem), it's just a nice ride through some good ol' twists and turns. This is my first idea for a cruise, and i'd be more into getting to know the community of SAU rather than organising a 'who can get there the fastest' event. If anyone wants to know about the park I have found this link: http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm I haven't planned on going as far as the Black Spur, but if anyone is up for it I'm sure we can just play it by ear and head up that way on the day.
  11. Had an idea for a cruise the other day when I took the back road to Yarra Glen. This looks like an oppertunity to have a great drive through a 80kmph windy road with bush sourroundings which open up into an awesome view over the yarra valley. The meet point: The Macdonalds carpark on the corner of plenty road and University Drive in Mill Park/ Morang South. There is a big shell service station at this meet point and a 5-6 car car wash too for those who need it. Meet Time: 3pm, Sat. 16th Feb. We will be leaving at 4pm Approx Cruice time: 1.5 - 2 hours one way From the meet point we will drive down Plenty road to the ring road and continue towards Greensborough and through Eltham. After we pass the suburbs, and as we pass through Kangaroo Ground the road opens out into an outback 80kmph zone through the bush with heaps of turns and hills. We will stop at Yarra Glen for some refreshments however I suggest that you have a tank full of fuel when we start as the petrol price here will be far more expensive. After a break at Yarra Glen, we face a 100kmph zone with open, flat areas (with the odd 90 degree corner) until we hit Healesville. Anyone who wants to stop at the Safeway there can pick up some munchies and a drink for the short little hop to Maroondah Dam. We will be stopping here for a while for a long break/ photos etc. There is a huge picnic area (with BBQs) and carpark at the dam if they're needed. If at that stage anyone has any suggestions on where to go next, i'll be open to ideas. I know the road just past the dam is pretty cool to those who want to do some serious 80kmph hill climbing. If people could let me know if they're interested in coming, it would be great. If any more info is needed, just ask.
