  1. I've got KU19's on my car now, pretty happy with them. At first I wasn't so much but I think that was because they used some sort of grease or whatever to get the tyres on and got some on the tread and they were also over inflated. Now that's sorted they are good. I had Faulkens previously, they were fairly comparable, except the sidewalls on the Faulkens seemed a little stiffer. So probably prefered the Faulkens slightly but they were an extra $100 a corner.

The KU19 tread pattern is an obvious rip off of Pirelli P Zero's.

KU19's are supposed to be a little softer than KU31's which should mean they grip a bit better but wear a bit quicker. I had KU31's on a previous car, they were pretty good, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's were the best I had on that car but they were more costly and now some come out of China, which have a lower speed rating and they go for a fair few more dollars. Had KU31's on my current car but only while I was taking it very easy getting it over the pits etc.

I read up a bit on the LS1 forums and everyone who had them were happy with them. Seemed to be some people making assumptions on car forums that because they are relatively cheap they aren't good but from people who had actually had them, they all seemed satisfied.

  2. Explain to me why any reasonable insurance company would insure a car for more than its worth?

That is just INVITING fraud to happen.

Well if yours gets written off, replacing it with one from Japan for the same price involves about a three month wait before it will be on the road, assuming you find a car of similar spec and condition quickly. To replace it locally will cost you more.

Really what it comes down to though is odds, it's a bet with agreed conditions. Part of that agreement is that you won't commit fraud and you can be sure if there is any hint of that they will investigate.

  3. Not sure exactly what you mean, do you mean the lower part of the lights (High Beam and Fogs)?

It sounds like fog lights you are describing, that light up down and wide. The are the same bulb as the High beam, must just have two settings. Not sure if they are standard type bulb, or a unique to Nissan item?

It does seem a bit silly having Xenon low beams and Halogen fog and high beam. I guess the cheapest option is to see if you can find a replacment bulb that is the white colour of the Xenon HID low beam. There are lots of imatation HID's now, that look as white, and don't need the ballasts and ignitors etc.

I wouldn't mind a better high beam, I find it pretty ordinary!

Yeah that's what I was wondering, thanks.

  4. yerh it has been awhile oaksey. funny thing was...no one at the first ever cruise showed up at the second one? lol. all new faces were at the second cruise. so imagine all the people from the first and second came... it wouldve been awesome seeing at least 20 V's just cruising...and the 350z's from the third cruise we just had...

also when the pics do get uploaded...you'll notice one thing, and that there is not a single silver that showed up which was a surprise! and majority was pearl white lol.

Yeah I would have thought people at the first would be at following ones, was a good day. Yeah silver is pretty popular, I think I spot a sedan but I would have thought there would be more. I was hoping to make it but knew I had a pretty full weekend, looked at the clock at 1:50pm and thought about coming but my car wasn't washed and I've some minor cosmetic things to get sorted out on it.

I look forward to seeing your kit!

  5. I wondered where I left those

555 timer and a inverter IC- has to do with the IR repeater thats in there. had a glitch with it and put a new set in there.

Yeah I wondered if it had something to do with you did Chris, thanks, mystery solved :D

rs73: Last car that I had that the powerchip went in, it was a noticeable improvement, got it from a friend and from memory he was good enough to let me try it and make him an offer, so I decided it was worthwhile but wouldn't have been if I had to pay full price for it new (maybe $250 vs $550?)

  6. Thanks rs73. The engine runs fine, have got it serviced at a couple of places that deal with the cars in Perth and they've both said it's all in good order. One of my guesses would be something like power chip but there are electronics for other stuff as well. Would be interesting to know though, because I would consider getting the ECU reflashed but obviously if it has already done there isn't much point. Could also be that the chips that correspond to these in the car are the non-stock ones or the stock ones could have been put back in. I got a powerchip for my last car and it was all good, I always use 98RON anyway.

  7. I was going to ask if it was the left side rubbing when you take right hand turns, as the turn you take is a bigger arc, higher speed, weight shifts over a bit more..

The RHS appears that it could JUST BARELY tuck under the guard over bumps, where as the LHS looks like there is no chance. This is why I think I can dial in a tiny bit more neg camber on the LHS and it will be OK.

    ... but I guess not.

  8. Sweet looking car there scathing.

My car as gone the other way, had some pretty chunky spacers in Japan but to get it complied here they got removed. By the sounds of it they altered things to get them on in Japan which got sorted out while complied here. To be honest I'm not looking to get any spacers put back on. If I had it dumped I guess I probably would so it met the guard a bit better but since it's not (speed humps, what speed humps?), I think it perhaps makes the dish look slightly deeper?

    Japan with spacers

Here, similar angle, shadow, without spacers:

If you prefer the Japan shot though, well get spacers

  9. tramlining is mostly caused by wider than std rims and tyres - causing not enough time for water to escape from underneath the tyre...

if you want to eliminate tramlining alltogether, stick to factory 8" width because that's what the car is designed for.

or choose a performance tyre with aggressive pattern to make sure water is expelled quick enough... at the expense of increase road noise.

Wouldn't that be aquaplaning? and tram-lining be when the straight cuts in the tyre tread catch on things like or if you're in Melbourne actual... tramlines?

  10. If I was selling my car I wouldn't be too keen to drop my car off to *some* workshop for a day or half day, would be more comfortable with RAC or somewhere with a similar reputation. I got a previous car inspected by RAC, I picked up some things they didn't but on the other hand they picked up some thing I didn't. However I was a bit pissed that it said "HLA noise", I called up and asked what that was to see if it was a big deal or not and I got told "ask your mechanic"... (turned out some people get them replaced but in my case good synthetic oil basically sorted it out over time). That RAC was an on site one, which I think took less than an hour.
