  1. This topic has been nagging me all day. I just have two points to express:

    1. We are lucky that DOTARS allow us to have an import scheme at all! By "we", i mean both the consumer and also the various people who are employed and/or making money through the process.

    2. The compliance plate has become nothing more than a commodity item, whether you like it or not. When bananas were $10 per kg, people just ate apples instead. Life goes on. TV killed the radio star. You get the idea.

  2. Probably importing unless a bargain turns up here.

I'd imagine the later model brakes are as good or better due to the larger size. But no personal experience on this.

Yes JL Imports will translate the auction sheet but you can easily research the procedures and details by emailing them..

I think "bigger" refers to the automatic model's brakes.

Only the manuals got brembos. 2003 model brakes (brembo) are better than 2004 model (non brembo).

  3. Series 1

    - supposedly most prone to electrical bugs (in the power windows, door locks and bose stereo)

    Series 2

    - updated interior (aluminium rather than plastic).

    - no longer have brembo brakes available

    - 18" wheels replaced with 19"

    Series 3

    - projector style headlights

    - revised tail lights

    - bluetooth phone integration??

Other people may want to add to the list.

Japanese models did not recieve any updates to the motor. I'm not sure about suspension, but haven't seen anything to suggest that there are big differences.

  4. Yeah, a few times strangers who ask me about the V35 have been shocked when i told them it was a 2003 model. The bloke at the local milkbar, and the one at the servo, both thought it was brand new.

I think its ageing quite well. It really is a timeless shape.

To Mr Eps. Good summary. It isnt just the V35 though. None of the japanese car makers have been able to recreate the awesome lineups of the 90s. For financial reasons or otherwise. And perhaps yes the v35 was directed more towards the luxury market, because they had the new Z car takeover as the true sports model again.

Looking at the second hand market, something like 70 - 80% of V35s out there are automatic. That must tell us something about the demographic. To me the skyline now sits as the car that a family man can get away with purchasing. I wanted a zed but I've done the 2 seater thing before and it doesnt work for me. I also want an R35 but like most people I simply dont have the beans for it. You can see where the V35 and V36 fit in.

  5. Yes they can still be adjusted.

On the shock you loosen the adjuster (red part?) and actually twist the body of the shock.

You have to also adjust the spring perch by the same amount. You do this by loosening one of the red adjusters and then twisting the one which the spring sits on.

I will try to find my manual and scan it for you. Pictures will tell a thousand words.

  6. If the track was empty I think the R32 would have done a faster lap time than the V35. He was simply stuck behind him a few times.

Tyres, drivers, condition of vehicle, etc would also play a part. The R32 is 15 years older.

In any case, slightly disappointing result for the V35. Stock vs stock vs stock i thought it would be at least a little bit closer to the other cars.

  7. It does work, but its definitely not worth the price tag.

The main benefits for me are a higher rev limit, and no 180 km/ph speed cut. I've done well over 200 at phillip island.

Anyway.. check this out. An overlay of my dyno chart against a mates 2005 rev up 350z (factory 221kw). You will notice that the rev up motor has a much much better top end, but mine makes a little more power everywhere else. Probably due to the aggressive (and almost dangerous) tune of the IMPUL ecu.

  8. I'm under the impression that the factory ECU contains security/immobiliser data, in that its not as simple as simple unplugging one ECU and plugging in another. Nissan needs to recode it. The IMPUL ECUs are based on the factory item and would be the same. You will have trouble installing one outside of Japan. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

Anyhow, I have one in my car actually. If you are interested here is a dyno chart.. check out the AFRs. They are all over the place and a little lean. So you're not missing out on much. p.s., yes, the power figure is low, but i'm told that its just this particular dyno. In comparison a 100% stock 350z did 148kw, and a 2005 rev.up 350z with a few mods did 169kw (but my mid range is about 5kw beefier).

  9. the reason why they're legal on high end vehicles, e.g. Audi R8 is because they've been properly engineered and researched thoroughly when the designers design the vehicle.

problem with aftermarket Varex muffler is unless it's been proven that it won't cause undue carbon pollution any higher than stock exhaust, as well as noise, they can't view it as legal...

Rianto. I would understand it if the ferrari, R8, etc stayed under the legal noise limit when on full pelt... which they might, but it sure as hell doesnt sound like it??

  10. yea...iam in vic, it was a stupid opation happened back in april...i wasnt aware of it until i got the reminding notice.

i didnt get pull over or like that...maybe they just pick up the rego on the street,

and that for that i took my car for EPA...they guy said he couldnt do it bcoz i got varex muffler...so had to strip everything back to stock now...

Its so stupid that VAREX style mufflers are illegal. High end car makers are putting similar systems on their cars out of the factory and they are perfectly acceptable. Go figure.

Anyway mate, just drop your car off at any of the registered exhaust shops and bring your stock exhaust with you. They should be able to install it, do the test, and then put your aftermarket system back on. I dont think it would cost more than $150 in total.
