  1. according to SEVS you can now import R33's
  2. Hi all, Can any of you guys please tell me what you payed for compliance on R33 gtst, how long ago and was it under the old (low volume import) or new (SEVS/RAWS) scheme? Very interested to know:uh-huh:
  3. no probs.. I'm right at the start - havent sent $ to Japan yet, will be doing that soon provided my $3750 for compliance checks out. Yea I think Geoff at Prestige does include that in his estimate but after looking at the website in my previous post I''m a bit worried that it might cost lots more... Although I think raws.com.au might be talking about compliance packages for compliancers themselves and not us end users It is all a bit confusing so I'm just being careful be4 i spend $20k:(
  4. Try this then goto FAQ. As far as i can understand it the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme means that importers who were previously importing cars under the old "low volume import scheme" will now only be able to import cars with no accident damage or modifications. Cars such as skylines will qualify for import under the new SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) but will be subject to far tighter quality controls on the compliancing of these cars so that workshops must now apply to become a RAW. These RAWS must meet certain criteria to do business such as having an engineering qualified mechanic as a fulltime member of staff. All this also means that people like me who want to import a skyline will have to pay more $ to have it complianced to ADR (Australian Design Rules). I have been told by Geoff at Prestige that I will be able to get my skyline complianced for $3850 + tyres but i notice at that URL that they charge close to $10k for R33 skyline compliance. (I will have to double check with my compliancer before i send the $ to Japan for the car) because my budget cant stretch to a $10k compliance. Basically the government is cracking down on sub standard vehicles being complianced under the old scheme or at least the possibility of that happening (makes you wonder how much pressure came form local motor companies). So that means we cant get in skylines with mods complianced and that we also have to pay more for the privalege. Hope that helps I don't really know much about it myself yet...
  5. workshop is here. No the car hasn't pass RAWS certification cos its still in Japan. The car is stock apart from cd and timer so should be fine. $3750
  6. apparently they only have to be removed not destroyed.
  7. Ill leave the timer on the car and ask the guys at the compliance centre to take it off and put it aside for me same goes for the stereo if theres a prob there. The stuff might as well stay in the car untill compliance and then ill ask em to keep the parts and put them in the boot or back seat.
  8. apparently they can leave that in (stereo) but will have to remove the turbo timer under the RAWS scheme (although my broker said something about possible hiding the turbo timer). Bit dodgy so i might ask compliance workshop to remove it.
  9. I have just started importing this car skyline I'm scarred and will have to wait till late September to drive it :uhh: Heres hoping it comes inside my $20k budget:freak:
  10. thats some pretty scary stuff to hear... I'm about to fork out $20k for my first sportscar R33gtst. After looking for weeks on the net etc it seemed to me that many dealers seem to charge high prices for skylines with questionable mileage etc. Better prices for private but still getting 3rd hand cars etc So I started looking at importers i found Carmen Import Centre @ Brendale QLD and went round to suss them out. I talked to Craig Walker there for about 30mins he came accross really well plus he had a nice silver series 2 R33 which i thought was the dux nuts. So in 2 weeks Im going to ask him to import a grey R33 gtst 93/94 for my budget but must be no accident damage or mods not even bigger wheels! Im still pretty scared about the whole thing but hoping everything will work out will post again with my experiences so hopefully other skyline nuts can get a fair go CU
  11. I'm 28 no accidents, record etc but only rating 5. Best quote so far from Suncorp Metway @ $1800 Worst so far Young and Cool (dodgiest name for insurance i eva heard) $2500 Anybody confident that some other REPUTABLE insurance company can beat dis?
  12. been quoted $2000 by Just Cars (underwritten by AAMI). The quest for insurance continues. dam i thought cos i was 28 that insurance would be reasonable - bloody turbo imports - just kidding! someone tell me about a good insurer @ good price plz...
  13. just called Western QBE said i wanted to insure a Nissan Skyline, they said "are they imported" I said yes, they said "we dont insure imports"
  14. Hey all, Just wondering if anybody here has bought a car from Carmen Import Centre at Brendale QLD (used to be Lawnton QLD till Nov 2002)??? Hoping someone can tell me if they got a good deal and are happy with there car etc. I'm looking at getting a dark grey R33gtst, 5 speed 93/94 imported by them for 20k - they tell me Ill have change left over for rego and a decent stereo... Or if anybody can recommend a good importer in the Brisbane maybe Gold Coast area QLD???
  15. Hi all, I realise that this car comes stock with 2 different dif ratios but am wondering if someone with a relatively standard 5 speed manual R33GTST25T can tell me what their tacho sits on at 100kph? BTW. Found the commodore discussion interesting I own a VL 6 cylinder and can't wait to get behind the wheel of the R33 I'm daydreaming about in 2 months. After 10 years of driving ill have my first real sports car instead of a family car (Commodore/Falcon) that hates corners - YAY! Sif any Com/Falc looks better than a nice R32,33,34!
