1. Well mine won't be moving for a bit, due to a lack of forward planning.

    21122009083-2.jpg

    Our driveway is a steepish uphill, and my GF has parked her S13 in front of my 4WD Ceffy :P

    Still, on a more positive note, the new lambda sensor has cured the lumpy running when cruising at motorway speeds, and the spluttering above 170km/h. Tomorrow I'll take the RWD Volvo out for some fun doing donuts in car parks. :D

  2. They couldn't find what's bent apparently, couldn't see because of the amount of underseal I had put on there. I'll see if I can take it to my local, more competent, mechanic, but unfortunately he's very busy.

    Guess the car needs to go on hold for a bit. Good job I'm getting a company car in January, otherwise I'd knacker my new tyres.

  3.
Just be aware that if you replace bulbs with LED bulbs you will experience the "fast flash" that occurs when you have blown bulbs.
I'm aware of that problem.

    There's an American company that sells a replacement flasher relay designed for use with LEDs. I just need to get off my arse, look in the fuse box and figure out which type I need. Shouldn't be too hard since most Japanese cars use the same relay.

  4. So the front suspension is way out of line on my car, -4 degrees on the front left and +1 1/2 degrees on the front right, and non adjustable. Bugger.

    Need to get some camber arms to make my car straight again. Since my car is the 4wd Ceffy and uses R32 GTS-4 suspension I figure it's best to just buy parts for that car.

    Problem is, all the options seem to be rose jointed solid lumps of metal, not really what you want in a daily driver, for example these

    I've looked at whiteline but their camber bushes only allow for half a degree of adjustment and I need a lot more than that. Any idea what to get?

  5. Well after a bunch of research, it appears that 921 and 501 bulbs have the same base, so I can use any LED designed to replace a 501.

    Next thing I need to find out is what type the fog light bulb is. So far no-one has been able to identify it. Initially I thought it was USH10, but it turns out that Ushio is a Japanese bulb company.

  6. Should be a standard wedge type bulb.

    To me a standard wedge type bulb is a 501, the little ones used in side repeaters. I've never seen a wedge bulb this big before, and can't even find out what the difference is between the two types. Is there a different name for them where you are?

    Ideally I want to replace them with LEDs since the bulbs are so rare over here.

  7. Need to replace my front indicator bulbs. I have clear units with amber bulbs and the paint is falling off the bulb. But what type are they? I've never seen one like it.

    One garage says they're 921's and another says they're 955's, both of which seem to be quite difficult to obtain so I need to make sure they're the right ones.

    While I'm at it, how do you even get at the sidelight and side repeater bulbs on this car.

    I wish I had the owners manual for it (in English) sometimes. At least the rear bulbs are all standard ones.

  8. you could get an HKS Camp, Apexi Multichecker or any other digital readout device and plug it straight into your ECU. No gurantees on if it'll be accurate though. I use an Apexi Multichecker on my 32 as my speedo's out by a little bit.

    But where does that electric signal to the ECU come from? I thought the speedo in the dash did the conversion from mechanical to electrical and sent it to the ECU?

    I guess you could wire up the multichecker directly to the output on the R33 gearbox, though I seem to remember somewhere that the speedo still does some kind of conversion, meaning the speedo converts the electrical into a different format before sending it on to the ECU, in which case this plan wouldn't work. Best check an R33 wiring diagram to see if I'm talking out of my arse or not.

    Also a Defi VSD would probably be a better option than a multichecker. That is what I'm using with my stock Ceffy to get an MPH readout since I'm in the UK. It works very well as my sole speedo.

  9. Series 2 cars are identifiable by the L in the first part of the VIN (except for the 25SSE where there is an E instead) eg. LA31 would be a S2 RWD Cefiro.

    An N in the chassis number indicates a 4WD car. The 4WD variants are the "ATESSA Cruising" in the S1 and the "SE-4" in the S2.

    I'm curious as to why the S2 and 4WD variants are so hard to register in Australia though?

  10. Can't be bothered to fill this in right now, but the question about blood type, if you're going to translate it to English, change that to zodiac sign. The Japanese do horrorscopes based on your blood type rather than the particular configuration of stars that happened to be around when you were born.

  11. Almost none in the UK. I know of mine, one being broken in Cornwall, one guy on this forum who has one in Cornwall, one up in Scotland, and a mate of mine once saw one being driven like an utter tit (ie. no mechanical sympathy) by some wannabe gangsta type who upon chatting to him it turned out he had no idea what he had.

    I do 40,000 miles a year, which is a lot by UK standards (I realise some of you guys probably do that much just getting to the next town :P ) and have never seen another on the road.

  12. Windscreen finally arrived yesterday after a tale of complete incompetence from Nissan UK who decided they had no record of my order (this was a week after I'd posted that they told us it was in Holland) and we'd have to order a new one which would be another 3 months, then this Wednesday they called and said they couldn't get one as it was discontinued, then on Thursday said they'd found one in fcuking Holland. They are making out that this is the last Ceffy windscreen in the world as it's a discontinued part.

    It's in the car now, and the bodywork is done. It's going to the valeters monday to get all the glass removed, then I guess it needs a good service and check over before I can stop driving it.

    In the meantime I had to take my Volvo 940 off the road after driving around with no 3rd or 5th gear for a month, and ended up buying another one (this time a 940 Wentworth 2.0 turbo, auto, estate) and used the old one as a parts car. So this last two days has been a sudden rush to get everything useful off the old car and then taken to a scrapyard, engine came out by unbolting the subframe and jacking the car up, dropping the engine, subframe and front wheels, then dragging it out with a tow rope. All the other useful parts were removed with bolt cutters and the like, and now it's sat there waiting for collection, with the remains of the doors sitting on the back seat, oh and the scrapyard think they can get it out with a winch.

    Still, the important thing, back in the Ceffy next week. Can't wait! I ordered up some fresh oil for it, but not sure what else I should do given it's hardly moved for 6 months.

  13. You have good taste in cider :)

    Also, I recognise those first two pictures. My import agent offered me that car despite me specifing "unmodified, or very subtle tasteful mods" and a requirement for the 4WD variant. They were offended when I just laughed. I thought they were just winding me up.

  14. Well as I mentioned in my other thread, someone put a brick through the windscreen back in April and I've been waiting on Nissan to get me a replacement.

    Got my garage to ring the dealer today and Nissan say they have no record of us having ever ordering a Ceffy windscreen, and if we want one it'll be 5 weeks for Nissan Japan to accept the order a few weeks for them to fulfill it and then a couple of months to ship it to the UK by boat.

    F**king incompetent useless f**king shower of stupid lazy bastards.

    So spoke to my garage and the insurance company, and they've agreed to let me buy it myself from Motorsport IRS in Japan who reckon they can get it in 2-3 weeks from Japan for Y87,000 and then send it in a crate via air mail for Y70,000 - Y90,000 so in theory I should have it within a month.

    The garage will reimburse me the money as soon as they get the invoide and/or my credit card statement.

    Hopefully I'll be back on the road within a month, which will be nice as 3rd gear has broken off my Volvo 940 and if I can just keep it running long enough in this state without having to buy a new gearbox I'll be rather happy.

  15. Aha, so you'd call the 180SX an RS13 wheras since the UK never got the S13 Silvia we just call it an S13 anyway, and if someone has imported a Silvia, it's an "S13 Silvia"

    In any case both cars have the same diffs, and the OP is looking for an S13 LSD :P

    On a related note I'm still trying to figure out all the A31 chassis codes. So far I've got:

    L = Facelift

    N = 4WD (with R32 suspension rather than S13)

    E = RB25DE??

    Pre-1990 only:

    R = DOHC engine??

    C = ??

    H = ??

    GFE = ??

    GAEP = ??

    GFS = Turbo??

  16. non-turbo pre 04/90: 44080-44F25

    non-turbo post 04/90: 44080-71L25

    turbo pre 04/90: 44080-73L25

    turbo post 04/90: 44080-73L26

    Note that turbo and non-turbo use different brake callipers so no idea if they are interchangeable.

    Note that the S13 uses 44080-01P27 and the A32 Maxima uses a different number again. No idea if they're actually different or not. I just avoided the whole problem by going with R33 GTST discs/pads/callipers.

  17. my main key is a "fashion key", but my valet key is shaped like a master key (valet key doesn't open boot or glovebox).

    Just had a thought. Can you compare your two keys for me.

    Is the bit that you'd get cut at the key shop the same on both the main and the valet keys or are they different?

    If they're the same, can you look at the key with the pointy end pointing towards you is the shape here the same or different?

    I ask because if it's the second one then anyone can get a valet key made up just by ordering the correct blank.

  18. Hahah... no! S13 is a silvia... same running gear as the 180SX but it is still different car (body wise)

    Like the 240SX is the 180SX for america

    One's a PS13 and the other's an RPS13 I thought.

    In any case he was refering to the UK 200SX up until mid-1994 was simply a 180SX only with a CA18DET rather than an SR20DET. They then switched to the S14 Silvia with the SR20DET but still sold it at the 200SX.

    Here's a picture of my GF's old 200SX for clarification

  19. Yup, bored chavs looking for something to do (I think the Aussie equivalent is a bogon?). It happens more often than you'd like to think about but you only ever hear about it when someone gets killed by it.

    The HUD is supposed to be used with a film (Defi sell replacements and they're actually reasonably priced, which surprised me) but unless you're driving into direct sunlight it's fine without it.

    Car is still off the road waiting for a windscreen though. Can't believe Nissan are taking so long.

  20. Lum, can you check the part numbers for the Laurel keys? My copy of FAST isn't working

    Assuming a C33 Laurel..

    Master and Sub keys are the same as the Cefiro, predictable really.

    For the Fashion Key, it's KEY00-00102 for the following models. I have no idea what these mean so I'm just quoting directly.

    K. (MED+MEDL+MEDS)

    K. (RB20E+RD28).MED +K (RB20D+RB20DT) +K. (SLL+SLS)

    K.IRS. (RB20E+RD28).MED +K. (RB20D+RB20DT+RB25D) +K. (SLL+SLS)

    and KEY00-00103 for

    K. (EXT+GE+GC+GS)
