  1. I can go up to 150/mth i reckon, is that too little? I reckon not. And probably i can download say minimally 10gb at least, just for files. Does surfing count towards your quota? About 7gb a month on anime alone. Per episode per show is about 250mb, i can watch up to 7 or 8 shows a week, and a month, more than 10gb i reckon. More is always better than less yeah?

And my modem is ADSL2+ i checked. Used when i was still on my previous ADSL plan.

  2. Oh yes, i will be living in Blackburn when i come over, postal code 3130.

Thats as far as i know about where i'm living. I will find out when i arrive there, since the owner of my house is my girlfriend's dad and i'm going to be bunking in with my girlfriend.

And basically i will be using it for torrenting.

I'm still not sure about the difference between ADSL and ADSL2+. Whats the difference? Is ADSL2+ an upgraded version of ADSL? As far as i know, they can be run on the same equipment.

  3. Well, i think soft tails are something else entirely from full sussers. There's a khs something thats classified as a soft tail, not much travel, waste of time.

I do like the Santa Cruz Heckler. Wheelie machine. With the rear shock set right anyway.

I just got a Giant Acid, frame only, no headsets, nothing. Was thinking of building it up, but i'm not exactly a fan of hardtails with long front end travel forks. I wonder if it can take a 100mm fox vanilla r.

  4. First of all, thanks to all who replied.

I'll check out westnet and TPG and DingoBlue.

DingoBlue has the fastest and cheapest plan, what do people think of them?

Hey Ken, i'm hoping at least the equivalent of pacnet's 1.5mbps plan, i don't even mind if it's a little more expensive, i need my anime.

  5. There's just 23days left before i fly over, so, i wanna get to sorting out things quick when i arrive, before i start school anyway.

What ISPs do people here use? Their customer service and internet plans?

I need a service that is fast and unlimited bandwidth, well, it doesn't have to be all that fast but 5mbps and above would be preferred. I currently use a 8mbps cable connection in Singapore.

    Thanks all in advance!

  6. Yes, i'm sorry. I was over-generalising.

Its about QC most of the time, not about the place where its made. I do use a lot of china branded bike stuff, like i used to ride an Echo Pure frame, with full echo parts. And taiwanese parts, such as Kenda Tires and Cheng Shin tubes.

I used to change cables a lot, derailluer cables were changed about once every 6 months and when i was using vees, i changed those every 6 months too. I use xt cables.

I'm told the cables would stretch actually, and when i was still using vees, i've had a brake cable snap on me on a wheelie, landed hard on my ass. I've been scared ever since. So i usually advise people to change their cables once 6 months or a year if one doesn't ride so often.

  7. Chang Stars sound china made and i don't think they're any good. I agree, chuck them.

Oh well, the deitys are pretty tested and proven so i'm partial to them, but i still use real mtb parts, cranks and all.

And Kyle, why don't you consider a hydraulic system? Something like a shimano deore, great brakes, and they're cheap. I'm from a humid country so i don't really recommend dot4 systems because they absorb moisture and expand too quickly. Like Hayes brakes.

Magura does good brakes too, like the Louise and Marta, but they're exhorbitant.

Cable systems require regular cable replacement, and hydro systems probably need a bleed every what, 1yr or so. And thats if you ride a lot.

  8. The RST Gila will kill anyone using it for dirt jump. RST forks are dangerous. I had an RST fork once, 32mm stanchions and all 130mm of travel, the fork locked up for no reason, i crashed. Scary.

The only cable discs that are actually reliable are those from avid, bb5 and bb7.

The cranks are okay, isis stuff are okay, until the splines get worn.

I reckon for 300 its okay, i don't know much about the Australia bike stuff prices but if it was in Singapore, $300 is okay.

  9. I ride a Dobermann Pinscher, the paintjob on my frame is a little pitted due to perspiration and general non-maintenance.

I'm planning to bring this bike over from singapore, is the pitted paintjob and issue to the quarantine people?

  10. Yeah, i'm not exactly keen on taking a loan, and i'm not all that desperate for a car.

Before i get my own, i'll have a honda accord to drive around, till my girlfriend gets her license anyway.

  11. where will u be studying? well i bought my car at a pretty high price. put it as its a good platform for me to achieve my setup. lol. modding cars is ENDLESS spending :P i m sure everyone here knows abt tis already..

Will be studying in RMIT, will do foundation year first, then on to chemical engineering.

But first, i'll need to part time job to be able to get my car.

  12. hi. i m new to this forum and i m from singapore as well. i just bought a r32 gtr. nice to know there will b another skyline around the eastern suburb. lol wad do u drive in sg? and yea. IF u buy a 2nd hand car WITH rego, u will need a RWC. road tax here is way way cheaper thank in singapore. and fuel works out to be the same. looking forward to see fellow skylines at meetups! Oh and reguarding speeding, Vic is tough on them. watch out for school zones and unmarked cop cars (both on the road and stationary). speed limits on highways r 100kmph.

    cheers

    Ujin

Nice to know there's a fellow Singaporean in Victoria too. Still serving my NS liability, and i will ORD on 15th June. Will be flying off from Singapore on the 25th of June, since my semester starts in July 14th. Are you studying in Australia too? And how much did you pay for your R32 GTR?

I drive either my dad's Renault Megane CC or my Renault Clio 1.6A shared with my sister in Sg. Yes, my dad is a major Renault fan.

And a very big thank you to all for all the usefull information provided. I really look forward to meeting you guys in Victoria when i can finally afford a R32 GTS-T. I currently only have about 3k in AUD, so i'm still really really short.

  13. Well, if you were to compare the Victorian traffic laws vs the Singaporean traffic laws, i would say there wouldn't be much of a difference. Just that in singapore, we're allowed +20km/h on the prevailing speed limit. Singaporean laws on car modifications only allows cosmetic changes, anything else and the fine is hardcore, that is, if one gets caught.

And yes, i've got a full Singaporean license. For us, its only 1yr on our P's.

Whats the limit on highways in Vic?

  14. Those are great links. Thanks.

They were of great use to me.

I now understand that to renew my registration, there is no need for RWC. RWC only comes into play when i'm getting a new car.

Now, i'm not here yet, but soon i will be, and what kind of registration rates do i have to pay for a r32 gts?

I guess thats the only skyline i can afford right now, not counting the r31s.

Petrol in Australia is about 10% cheaper than in singapore i guess. We pay around 1.60/L for 98RON fuel.

Considering our currencies are almost equal in value now.

    And one more thing.

I'm coming here as a student, will i have to do a license conversion or can i drive with my singaporean license throughout my tenure as a student.

Thanks a lot for your patience, as i wish to get familiarised before i come, to understand how things work so that i won't screw up.

  15. Hi,

My name's Alvin and i come from Singapore, but i will be coming to Victoria to study at RMIT in about 3months time for about 5 years.

So, because cars in singapore are ridiculously expensive, i have decided to get a car here while i study. I'm torn between a skyline, either a r32 or a r33 gts or a 300zx. They are all beautiful cars. I know you guys would definitely recommend the skyline.

I'm confused about rwc and rego. Do i need the car to be roadworthy before i and extend the registration of a car?

I was told the rwc is needed only when i'm buying a new car, is that true?

And whats are the petrol prices like now over in Vic? When i was in rockhampton, around october/november, the prices were like +- 1.20/L.

Oh yes, and i will be living in Blackburn.

    Cheers.
