  1. Hmm, about as confused as one can get on oils. Car had Havoline in it originally. No idea what kind. So put in some Penrite HPR10 semi with the plan to then go fully synthetic next change. Engine has 90k on it. Gut feeling is the HPR10 might not be the best oil for this engine, but then again I don't know what is the "best" or better one to choose. - Motul seems a winner by many peoples postings. I gather it's either the 300V or the 8100 (not sure what version of this is the one to use). - Royal Purple has some fans as well. - GW Sougi. This sounds like a good oil, but don't think anyone sells it on the Gold Coast. As far as weights go, hmmm 10w40w or 0w40w or 5w40w? I understand the first number is for cold, the second is for hot temperatures, but still confused here. Those 3 synth choices have fans. Also seen people mention Mobil 1. Penrite of course has some synth stuff as well as Nulon. Price is not the main consideration, but then again it's certainly an important one. Like if one is close the other in prices, then most people would pay that little bit extra for it. I'm confused big time on this however. I've seen Mobil 1 for $60, Motul for $110, Penrite for $70 and so on. I know oils are like women, everyone's different , but hoping to get a clearer understanding of all this, and ultimately what one to purchase.
  2. So much information on this website, it's quite incredible I'm in the slow process of learning about my car, and what are the things I can do in order to gain more performance. Recently I was laid off my job, so I seem to have a bit of time to work on it, though not a whole bunch of money. I own a 1996 R33 GTS25T S2 Auto. Car is clean, engine feels tight and so does the transmission (it's an auto). I have a stainless Nismo exhaust (I guess this is what you call a cat back?) going back to the cat. Have been told by a few people it's a real good one. I believe it's 3". Also had the compliance pos cat cut out, and a high flow Hurricane installed. Only other mod I've done is remove the air box, and mount a pod. So that brings me to where I am now. I understand people can do all kinds of things to their cars, but I simply do not have the money to go dropping in replacement turbos, and all other kinds of gizmos. So really I'm looking for the best bang for the buck performance increasers I will take it to a dyno, but not just yet. Want to have a few things completed before then. Will check or replace the O2 sensor, plugs (no idea what to replace them with), looking at what kind of oil to use (the oil thread just gave me a headache as I'm now less sure of what to get -- Motul, Purple, Mobil, what weights, then differing opinions lol), will have the injectors cleaned by the dyno guy when I take it in as well. Also looking at what transmission fluid to use, as the car is surely in need of a filter change. Not sure what other fluids I should check on in terms of better performing products. At this stage, I don't think a turbo upgrade or anything to do with the turbo is in the budget. I have my stock SMIC, and was thinking of putting in a FMIC, or, I've read maybe a SMIC from the R34 GTT might give some more performance with very little installation work. What about the R32 and R33 GTR FMIC? Can they be installed into a R33 with minimal fuss? That's my other plan, is to keep the car looking as stock as possible. I really don't want to be cutting the body work, have all kinds of mesh and other "addons". If possible, want to keep it looking like stock. Still I don't know what direction to take as far as upgrading the intercooler goes. Seen cheap kits, expensive kits and not sure what to do. It seems once you do this, then you have to replace "that" and upgrade "this" and it goes on and on lol. I know there are tons of other things guys have done to their cars, but for me it's unattainable due to cost. But I know I can still do some things, and thus am putting out the call for help in this area. I am handy with tools and can do some things myself, so that can save me labour costs etc. I've installed a new stereo, back speakers, and just finished putting in a keyless entry system. Have been methodically going over the car interior and such. But soon I will be done there, and it will be time for the performance side of things. Looking forward to learning more about my car, and putting some of that knowledge into practice. Had fun so far PS. I live on the Gold Coast. If anyone's working on their cars down here and need any extra pairs of hands, let me know. Would love to meet some people, learn more and help out where I can
  3. After installing the system, putting meticulous effort into the wiring all being nice, I hook the system up and am thinking sweet, it's all working . Well kind of. Turns out the idiot at Autobarn installed the actuator at an angle that is far from optimal. Playing around with the push bar that connects the actuator and where it attaches to the door lock mechanism, I cannot for the life of me get it so that the action is anything but violent. It seems to me the idiot drilled the holes into the door, then realised, there was something behind it that would interfere the movement. So instead of correcting it, he just flipped it over 180 degrees. Yes it "works" but I can't see it lasting. What an utter waste of time. Anyway Chris, I think I need to come up your way, drop in and I bet it would take not even 5mins to correctly mount the actuator. All the wiring is in place now, so it's a case of more holes in my door , but at least the movement being proper.
  4. An update on this. I've found where this "mystery" plastic thing should be located on the door. All this time I was looking inside the door and other places, and the location of where it lived was right at the top of the door. Not having this piece in place, I can see there's a noticeable gap between the top seal and glass from the window. This should explain a little why the door leaks so much when raining. Looking at the other 2 located in the door, it's obvious mine is actually broken. So will have to locate another, or worse case scenario glue this one in.
  5. A '98 R34 with only 39,000kms? No wonder nobody bid on it. And for $14k!? There's simply no way that mileage is genuine.
  6. Thanks Chris for the offer. After I made my initial post, I was down at Autobarn looking at some replacement rear speakers. Turns out they would install the actuator into my driver side door for only $40, so I booked it in pronto. Got the car back, and have today been playing around with the wiring hookups. Blown a few fuses, but have managed to hook it all up now. The trickiest part was working out how to hook into the lights setup. Do most people's cars flash the indicators when they arm and disarm the keyless entry? I've worked out how to hook those up, but also found a way for the dashboard, front small headlights and brake lights to flash as well. Not sure what is the better hookup, as all going at once is a bit much lol. Once all that's sorted, I'll look at installing a boot actuator as well.
  7. Any chance I could get a PM for the R33 GTS-T manual? Does this also contain the wiring diagrams for the car? or just the engine and mechanical portions.
  8. Putting out the feelers for any experienced or simply thorough and knowledgeable person(s) to help with an keyless entry install for a R33 GTS-T. I've tried doing it myself after being dicked around by JB Hi-Fi and ended up being stumped in the process. Hoping someone here knows someone etc.
  9. Some weeks ago I attempted to install a keyless entry system into my car. After failing and deciding I'd probably need some professional help on the matter, I left the drivers side inner door lining off. With all the rain lately, I've now got an issue where water is driping down inside the door. Now are these two things connected? As in by having the inside door lining off, it's somehow affected the outside seals and letting in water? Or as I suspect, I've actually always had this leak but am only aware of it due to having the door lining off and seeing the water directly. In the past there were a few occasions where I'd smell a very damp musky kind of smell when first getting into the car in the morning. Even a little condensation on the windscreen, but I never really thought much of it. But now, it's clear to me there is a problem and I don't know what to do. I also found a piece of plastic with felt on it, sitting at the very bottom of my door when I first took the lining off. Somethings not quite right as often when I use the power windows, the window jerks quite a bit when it first starts moving. And it's a side to side movement, which shows the window isn't as snug as it should be. I've included some pics of this plastic thing. Maybe that's the key to everything. Hoping someone here knows a little about what I've mentioned and can help out.
  10. Thanks Nic. I had located all 3 screws and the one in the plastic handle. What had me stumped was the plastic handle itself and how to get it out. Finally got it out, but not without scratching and scuffing it pretty badly Plus I lost some of the plastic snaps that hold the rest of the door in place. Hopefully I can buy a replacement from one of the auto stores. I'm trying to install a keyless entry system, and this is step one lol.
  11. Hello. I'm attempting to install a keyless entry system into my R33. I havn't been able to find any pictures of diagrams of how to take off the driver side door panel properly, and where the screws are all located. Would someone here be able to help me on this?
  12. Crap. I got no way of getting to work if I have to drain the fluid. I put in about a table spoons worth, maybe a tab more. Is it really going to screw things up if I keep driving it until I get drain it and or flush the system? And what's a ballpark figure for flushing a system anyway?
  13. Was doing some fluid checks today and for some reason put in a very small amount of DOT4 brake fluid into the power steering reservoir. Am I stuffed, or are the two fluids close enough that no problems will arise from this? I havn't driven the car yet since doing this, but have to use it tomorrow for work. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. Many thanks Miran. Spend many hours going over the searches for the Starbo G15 and came up with a few results. Sadly did not find a website for Starbo though. Found a bad quality scan of 2 pages from the instruction booklet, so hopefully I can get that translated perhaps.
  15. It's a Turbo Timer for sure and not a disguised something or other. It was working on AUTO mode when I first got the car and depending on how hard I had driven the car it idled from 30secs to 2mins. No idea how to get it back to this mode though. Was fiddling with it as I had an idle problem and thought it was causing it. Turned out my throttle box just needed cleaning. Now I've gone and messed with the settings and have no clue how to get it back to how it was. Thus I'm trying to identify it so that I can possibly and hopefully find a manual online or something.
  16. Hello all. First time owner of a Skyline and also my first post here. I'm trying to identify the Turbo Timer in my R33. I'd like to be able to check the settings are set correctly and can't for the life of me work out what it is. My vehicle is an import and I'm the first AU owner of this car. Here are the pics of the unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know the unit works, just have no idea what all the buttons do etc.
