Silvia Vs. Skyline Vs Rx7
Razor36 replied to jimtron4000's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i have owned a s15 and a r32 gtr. they are very different cars, as expected. S15 had a good feel to it regarding handling and mods are cheaper than that of the gtr. however the awd system is a whole diferent story in the gtr as you would imagine and you have a lot more fun through roundabouts and round corners at faster speeds. although you can switch to rwd mode, this still cannot be compared however to the rear-end happy s15 as you prettty much can get the tail out with minimal power - as with most s-chassis. If you want the car to be similar to the 180sx, i would go the s15 as it is more modern than a s13 and will be a more streetable car than the other choices. i lent towards rx7 at once stage too, but too unreliable and cost a lot to rebuild as you would know. -

Blown Pressure Plate Spring?
Razor36 replied to Razor36's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
well im still thinking its clutch welded/fused to flywheel so might try looking underneath at the gearbox/clutch/flywheel tomorow and might just pry it out if so lol. -
I have a funny feeling the clutch thats in there is an Xtreme button clutch which have a common problem of welding to the flywheel so i though that might have been the problem also guys. any remedies to check if this is the case besides prying it out from underneath the car? - ive tried warming up the car and then turning it off. then starting it in 1st gear and driving it around my street and giving it some accelerater with the clutch down but no luck. heard this was one way to get it 'un-fused'

Blown Pressure Plate Spring?
Razor36 replied to Razor36's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
cant really help ya mate, i havent driven the car in a couple of days cause im fed up with it lol going to save up for a new clutch kit and get it installed in a week or two. will know exactly what the problem was when that goes in i guess and then i will update this. let me know how you go with yours -
had a look through a few options my mechanic gave me: check slave cylinder check clutch fluid check clutch fork also check if clutch is fused to flywheel. etc. Overall end result is that i have either cracked pressure plate or popped pressure plate springs which i wont know either until i pull the clutch out completely. Anywho im going to order a hyper single exedy clutch kit and get that installed, as i dont trust the clutch that is in there atm - its possible it is a xtreme button clutch and i dont trust xtreme clutches at all. I dont want to have to worry that this sort of thing that might happen again in the future so id rather put a new clutch in that i trust and can be confident that it will last me launching etc and use of my current power. thanks for the help guys.

Blown Pressure Plate Spring?
Razor36 replied to Razor36's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
clutch fork moves when i engage the clutch. also i checked brake fluid and clutch master cylinder and they are fine. my clutch pedal is a whole lot more soft than it used to be, so less force when pushed as you mentioned GTRsean, so im thinking therefore i have blown something in the clutch, such as pressure plate or springs popped out. Plus if i had blown somthing in the gearbox then i would not be able to drive the car around in 1st gear at all, which i did today down my street to try to diagnose the problem further. i think i might just replace the clutch with an exedy heavy duty button as I would rather be confident that the clutch is good in there as the previous owner gave me no details on what clutch it was so it may be a dodgy one that may have problems again even if it is salvagable at all at this point when i get it taken out next week. nywho thanks for the help guys -
where do you study man? im at curtin doing commerce + IT

Blown Pressure Plate Spring?
Razor36 replied to Razor36's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yeh i searched on here, and i found that a lot of people have had trouble with xtreme clutches that have welded to the flywheel? Im not sure but its possible that mine might be an Xtreme button clutch as it doesnt feel like a stock feel at all. One of the remedies I saw for this was start it in first, rev high and drop the clutch and it will break it lose from each other but that doesnt seem to be doing anything. the other option was to put the car in first and rock it back and forth from outside the car, but i dont have another person here to help me do that, and the car launches forward in first so if i have the handbrake on it starts to squeel as its trying to move with the handbrake up. there is no noise coming from the car other than wen it starts up it first kind of struggles to start, but then once it gets going in first it sounds fine, same as it always does, but i cant get into any gears, and once i get into neutral i have to turn off the car again and start in first to move it again. Im totally lost on this, im thinking clutch is f**ked and i should buy a new kit, forced to upgrade i guess. Not sure whether to get it looked at by local garage or not to bother and to just buy a new clutch and tell them to put it in. -
so last nite after going for a spirited drive with some mates, and launching in rwd mode(attesa d/c via switch) i found that i couldnt get into gear. I used rev-matching technique to get it into gear to get the car home immediately after. I am still able to get into gears when the car is turned off, but i cant get into any with the ignition on. So I tried starting the car up again in first and the car just tried to move forward even with the clutch engaged as soon as i started the car. I presumed it was the clutch acting up due to it being a cheapy replacement for a stock clutch(was told it was a 9 puck clutch by previous owner but unsure on the brand or model) and not being able to handle the power and my 'treatment' of it. My mate questioned that i had blown or wrecked the gearbox, but after some research i have found the following and seems like this is the problem: - one of the pressure plate springs has broken free from it'smount and is in contact with the flywheel. this is why i cant shift when engine is on, and why it doesn't release even when the clutch pedal is pushed all the way down. - broken clutch disc springs usually don't let you shift into gear since it usually jams itself between the pressure plate and the clutch disc - if you can not engage the transmission into any gear with the engine running but, can engage it into gear with the engine shutdown, that's a good sign that either the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad. So my overall question is such: Has anyone had this problem before? and will i need to buy a whole newclutch kit(looking at exedy heavy duty button or hyper single)??? the current clutch wasnt slipping at all before this all happened and it seemed to be in good condition, so is it possible to get the disc/pressure plate springs fixed by a workshop? Thanks, Clayton

So anyways, chucked my rwd switch flicked into rwd mode. started the car in 2nd blah blah blah used the brake blah blah blah. times that by 3 or 4. suddenly, i couldnt get into any gears after that. i thought maybe that i f**ked the clutch but couldnt smell any clutch smell on any of the above occasions and i definately know what clutch burning smells like =/ so revmatched the car home cos wasnt far - only 5 minutes. parked it up. but what i noticed was that when i had the clutch engaged, the car would still continue to roll as tho i was in 1st gear or something. I then tried starting the car up again in first and the car just tried to move forward even with the clutch engaged. I was still able to get into gears when the car was turned off, but i couldnt get into any cars with the ignition on. I presumed it was the clutch acting up due to it being a cheapy replacement for stock and not being able to handle the above mentioned antics. My mate questioned i had blown or wrecked the box, but after some research i have found the following and seems like this is the problem: - one of the pressure plate springs has broken free from it'smount and is in contact with the flywheel. this is why i cant shift when engineis on, and why it doesn't release even when the clutch pedal is pushed all theway down. - broken clutch discsprings usually don't let you shift into gear since it usually jams itselfbetween the pressure plate and the clutch disc - if you can notengage the transmission into any gear with the engine running but, can engageit into gear with the engine shutdown, that's a good sign that either theclutch disc or pressure plate is bad. What i would like to ask is if anyone has had this problem before? and will i need to buy a whole new clutch kit(looking at exedy heavy duty button or hyper single) or can i just get the disc/pressure plate springs fixed? is this at all possible? Thanks, Clayton

I had a kit painted on one of my previous cars at the spoilershop in myaree, but they provided the parts for the bodykit and the fitting and painting was part of the price they quoted me at the store. It turned out even better than I expected and I would definately use them again if I chose to put a bodykit on another car. The owner is a really nice guy and told me that he had a few problems with fitment, but he worked his way around them and eventually got the kit sitting really well and the paint matching was perfect(was a metallic red colour so hard to match). Im not too sure if they do painting and fitting if you supply the parts, think they only do fitment/painting if they are the ones sourcing you the products, might be because incase you supply a part that doesnt fit well on the car and it wastes a lot of their time trying to fit it or something like that. hope i was of some assistance man, Clayton p.s. otherwise there is also this thread that covers many other shops... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/113981-bodykit-workshop-experience-in-perth/

correct. they have adjustments on the top for camber and dampner settings, just use an appropriate allen key to adjust. (judging by the pics given)
