  1. Ok, I haven't got enough money for a full exhaust system right now, still, I was impatient to fiddle with the car and bought a GFB boost T and a boost gauge all at a good price. Talking to the guy at the shop, he reconed that I needed to get the fuel pump checked and stuff like that to see if it was up to scratch to handle more boost so that it would not run lean. Although I plan to do that one day and run it on a dyno; would it still be reasonably safe to hook up the boost T etc and run 2psi without checking the rest of the system immediately? The car has only done 117,000km so I would have thought that it would be alright. Loooking forward to installing...
  2. Oh ok, so if i wanted to up the boost one day to 10psi then all I would really need is a boost controller instead of taking it to a tuner.
  3. I might be talking well over my head about the free boost mod... but wouldn't changing the boost solenoid to run at 7 down low need also to be tuned with the right amount of fuel aswell? Or does the computer adjust the right mixes of fuel so that an imbalance won't damage the engine? cheers
  4. Its my thread anyway
  5. Thanks mate, I'll get it checked, i think and will get some better mags sometime.
  6. Thanks. It will swing...wobble on the back a bit when driving at 40-80km cruising over a rough patch of road with a slight turn in the road. It is not loosing traction. It just doesn't feel as firm and controlled on the road as my N/A did. You could be driving on the road at 100km and it would sometimes change direction very slightly...almost drift/turn instead of stay straight over little bumps. Supsension is stock as far as I know but it feels tighter than my N/A, I assume it is just the turbo version's tighter suspension. My plan is to get some more advanti mags and see how it goes. I can't explain it, it honestly feels like the back wheels turn as they go over a bit of rougher tar-seal road, or the suspension is so tight that the car rear bounces sideways over rough road LOL...doubt it. cheers
  7. Hikas lock bar? I am wondering what this actually does because I think I may need it. When the car goes over a bumpy patch of road it feels like the back swings out to the side a bit...making it feel quite scary. Is this the hikas? (4 wheel steering kicking in at the wrong time lol). My old N/A R33 seemed to feel safer on the road and handle better, but then again it did have advanti mags on wheras my new one has R34's on it. But that shouldn't make the car feel like it swings out on (in my opinion) rather mild bumpy patches. My wife even noticed it when driving. However on a smooth road it handles awesome and can get around corners really well. Overall, I just wonder why the car feels like it is a little more swingy and unstable at times. Suspension is tight and seems to be really good.... Any ideas?
  8. "I have personally raced a fg xr6 twice and it flogged my r32 gtst one both occaisions in the Wet I just couldn't get traction and in the dry it just ate me alive. But I had blow by. " Ya, but a 2L gtst not as quick as a Gts25t. "looking for boost" Mint to pull away from an R8 with just exhaust mods and a little tune
  9. On You tube there is a N/A with a simple exhaust mod and air intake that did a 14.6 1/4 mile... a stock turbo should be quicker than it.
  10. The stock one goes up to 7 and that is not in psi. Its the other type, I forget what it is called. It is hard to read what it is actually doing.
  11. Hey again, I am looking to do the free boost mod on my R33 but I need a boost gauge to accurately read the boost changes (to see a before and after effect). On Trademe they range from $100+ "Auto Meter" gauges to $15 "M&H" ones. I just want it to be accurate and I want to avoid paying $85+ plus for something that will do the same job. Any brands recommended or are they all pretty much the same?
  12. Found this: http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm Though for some odd reason it has every other car except skylines? But a GTS25t should do 0-100km in 6sec and a 1/4 in 14 1/2sec. According to it, a GTS25t is as fast as a impreza WRX 2005 but not some of the other ones.
  13. My boss has a stock RS4 stagea and raced a XR6 around windy roads. He recons it would creep on him on the straights but it was no match for his four wheel drive around the bends. He didn't know what year it was but he thought it was a new one And that is a 1620kg wagon with and RB25Det in it LOL. My gtst is quicker than it being 200kg lighter. Then again the XR6 may not have been trying too hard lol.
  14. So, pretty much a GTS25t is nothing special from stock but what it is known for is its tuning abilities.
  15. Why do the wrx's have better torque down low? Is the stock exhaust and low boost down low (hence needing to do the free boost mod) quite restrictive compared to wrx's.
  16. "bog stock ECR33 is fairly mild in terms of power and won't really be able to outperform oodles of cars, but against N/A you should be fine and should be even or a touch slower than v8s" out perform or keep up with (as fast as)? My mate has a WRX (not STI), could my R33 keep up with it on a rolling start? I would have thought so since both would sit on about 250hp stock, then again his is lighter. The skylines look a heck of a lot better than subies though I must say. Thanks for the replies.
  17. Hey ya, There have been a couple of posts that I have found talking similarily about these topics but they often are comparing them to STI's etc which is interesting yet always seems to revert to "GTR all the way" and end up almost rubbishing the GTS25t... I always find these topics fun and interesting especially since I am not the most knowledge car guy out there. My cousin has a 400hp Subbie and says that their engines can be quite weak compared to Nissans so he has to keep it well tuned. Another guy I know with a 300rwkw Skyline recons that the RB straight 6 was stronger than the new V6 Skyline engines, something about the cams being longer and more flexable so therefore can take more power than say a V6 or four cylinder? if I get it right. Opinions are interesting... I own a GTS25t 1997 4 door. What is it comparable to, a WRX? (not STI), Toyota Supra non turbo? I am sure that being rw drive would be an advantage over some in a way since it would lose less power through the drive shafts. cheers guys....(and gals)
  18. Hey there, just wanting to find some possible answers. My R33gts25t feels a little wobbly on the back when driving over rough or bumpy road around corners. I don't think it is losing traction, it feels like the back swings out a bit, making it feel quite scary. Or that along with tight suspension, great for cornering on quality roads but not on poorly kept roads. My N/A skyline never did this? I think everything is stock. Definately not skidding. cheers
  19. I said "This enables the turbo to pump more concentrated air which increases the amount of oxygen into the engine." (I said "more" meaning denser.)
  20. Oh ok, sounds interesting. What is a "turbotech boost t"? So correct me if I am wrong... with a good exhaust, plus a decent cold air intake, it will help the airflow through the engine and decrease the temperature. This enables the turbo to pump more concentrated air which increases the amount of oxygen into the engine. By doing this, the computer records it as higher boost or pressure which spikes it up to 9 psi? when it would run at 6 before? Forgive my ignorance if I have misunderstood. I think I am convinced to go for an exhaust first it seems to be the going say of everyone. cheers guys,
  21. Ya, I have a Z32 chip which I was going to use in my N/A but I will use it in the det instead. Sweet, that stagea sounds like what I am wanting to put out approximately. I hope to do it with a tune and exhaust. We'll see.
  22. Many thanks, I thought 3 1/2 psi was little low for the power it was wacking out. I find my suspension great... almost too tight on the bumpy northland NZ roads. So what size exhaust is about right to start with? 3" or 2.5"? I am also told that nissans love bigger intake manifolds. I just got married so money is not really flowing but i would like to get the car as a project up to 170kw at the rears if I can do it cheaply, but properly.
  23. Does it do 5 psi stock? My stock gauge goes up to seven but the boost only reaches the line half way when the foot goes down... I thought maybe 4? Or are they not 100% accurate.
  24. Would an upgrade of the exhaust manifold be enough?...I don't want it too loud. I think it would be too loud if I did a larger pipe all the way through. Though I could put resonators in. Its sounds just right at the moment. So I could gain 15-20rwkw with just an exhaust? Sweet.
  25. Hey guys, I just bought a gts25t its pretty stock except for a tip...and really enjoying it. However I am told that I can tune the boost up 2 psi before the computer will stop me. If I did this what gains could I expect? 15kw at the rears? cheers.
