  1. Do you lose much power by putting the stock one back on, and what's the bellmouth one, how is it different. Still new to turbo car. This is the setup that came on the car. I'm not bothered about running standard boost, I would put standard solenoid on if I new it would work, or ebc.

check out just jap here, youll be better off getting a 3" bellmouth then going back to the standard item. also a good ebc helps aswell, i am a big fan of the jaycar item its cheap and has some great reviews.

  2. Just bought a Consult cable so should be able to check for ECU fault codes alot easier on the weekend.

I was going to tape the coil packs after inspection as well. As for plugs NGK bcp6res should do the trick yes?

yep, gap them to .8mm and youll be all good

  3. Yes thanks.Fluid is all good and I've thought about the tree option believe me :)

I think that these transmissions take a very specialised transmission fluid, which is extremely expensive. so that might be your first step. where abouts in nz are you? could you take it to a transmission place i.e marshal transmissions they might have had experience with them? failing that you might have to look at/import a half cut or a crash damaged car :D . i cant imagine those gearboxes been very expensive (2nd hand) compared to a 25det 5sp?

  4. Ok I need the SAU guru's to help out on this one.

My car is an R33 gts-t with very low milage in good condition. The following mods/work have been carried out:

    - Std Turbo with std boost (5/7 as confirmed by a boost gauge)

    - R34 gt-t intercooler (cleaned out)

    - 3inch bellmouth dump pipe

    - high flow cat (apparently xforce, came with car)

    - 3inch stainless system with two big mufflers (also came with car)

    - new timing belt (timing reset)

    - full fluid service (inc. AFM clean)

    - new iridium ngk standard spec plugs (5 heat range, 1.1 gap)

Now the cars runs really well, really stong.

The car has developed the typical br25 flat spot on some nights (keep in mind it is extreamly cold in melbourne at the moment)

The car takes off hard, then flatens out, then feels strong again. This matches up with what I have searched in relation to two things. Not there is no obvious missfire (ie spluttering, coughing)

    1. R&R

    2. Coils/plugs

Now R&R seems unlikely given the car is running std boost? Is it possible to get R&R is the air is cold/dense enough?

Second I took the coil cover off in the dark and the not one missfire is obvious at any RPM. The car only has 80,000ks and is in exception cond so its not impossible that the coils are ok, Cant find any cracks...

So im confused??? Is it my heat range 5, 1.1 mm gap plugs? Is it R&R?

I must have read 50 threads on the topic but everytime R&R appears is on higher boost and the coils show missfires and actually missfire (ie splutte where mine dosnt?)

    Thoughts?

i had a similar issue, im in hamilton, NZ and we get thick as fog and the temps have gotten down to -4 deg a couple of times so far this winter. my car also has similar mods to you and my car has done around 82000ks. i recently changed my plugs to bcpr6es (i think) with .8mm gap. and it mostly got rid of the problem, so i suspect it could be a combination of plugs and coils (even though my coils look fine). so i am looking at getting some new coils soon. i run high boost all the time, and its around 9psi because of the mods. im suprised that your car still sits an 7psi at full noise, and my exhaust is the factory one with the mid muffler and cat removed.

  5. youll find an ecu pinout diagram here

    i used pinout:

101 - injecter for cyl 1, and like kiwiRS4T said, make sure you just splice into this cable, DO NOT CUT IT

25 - boost control valve, and this is the opposite as above, do not splice, but cut the wire from the ecu

    49 - +12v, splice into this cable

50 - ground, also splice into this cable

make sure you double check these, just in case.

i used all 4 from the ecu just so i could make the install a bit neater.

have a look throught the thread that sydneykid started (the link that kiwiRS4T has in his post) it has all the info youll need

and yes they are very good for the money, and some people say they are better than most big name brands!!

if you havent baught the hand-controller yet, you will need to, as it doesnt work without it.

  6. Cheers,

Got stuck into it again yesterday, I used paper towels to soak up most of the oil.

Looks like the guy that sold it to me lied about putting in new spark plugs just before i bought it haha.

It's so dirty in there I doubt any mechanic had been under there in a couple of years ay.

when you replace the plugs, gap them to .8mm (i kow this is right for the 33, not too sure bout the 34) and should help the missfiring. but clean all the crap out before you do the plugs, dont want anything falling into the holes for the spark plugs.

  7. Dont want to come across the wrong way here but trust me, you wouldnt have noticed any difference from the heat related pressure rise driving around normally. I guess you cant check now since you have nitrogen in the tyres, but when you have a chance measure the pressure when you get in a car, then measure after a normal drive and I think you will be surprised at how little it changes. Running low profile sports tyres you are not going to notice ride quality difference from a few psi anyway.

Its great that you can get it for free, just dont buy into all the BS about it...

thats all good bro, i think i was mostly paranoid on the drive back after what happend

  8. What difference do you find?

on my way home with 4 different tyres on and with "normal" air it felt a lot bumpier. im not saying that i know everything about anything, it felt like once the tyres warmed up the air had expanded quite a bit?? the shop i get my nitrogen from is just down the road, and they give it to me for free, so doesnt make any difference to me wether i go to the servo or them.

  9. Glad to see everyone's safe as that would have been a big shock, definitely at that speed. How long since you had a wheel alignment? I only ask as the right hand side tread block in your photo shows that the small grooves in that side have almost worn away completely. Made me wonder if you've got a lot of neg camber or tow dialed in causing a bit of weakness in the sidewall?

Are many other people out there running nitrogen in there tyres?

When i got the rims i was running the stock suspension, so there was no camber or toe (they did an alignment when i got the rims). i lowered my car about 3 weeks ago and strait afterwards took it to get an alignment again. the photo isnt that great, the wheels could still pass as brand new, i only drive my car on the weekends. the nitrogen is becoming quite popular quite a few people i know are running the nitrogen, i rekon theres quite a difference.

  10. Was the first thing that came to mind too...

no, it has never been run underinflated, i constantly get the pressures checked from the place i baught them from and i only run nitrogen in them (for constant temps). was just at the shop this morning, and they are replacing all 4 tyres now free of charge, so if they were run underinflated i assume they wouldnt be replacing them? and when i baught them he did tell me that they were owned by continental tyres, so made me think they were worth a go.

  11. Was the tyre the correct weight & speed rating for your car? Surprised you don't mention the brand, too.

i believe so, these are the tyres they put on the car when i bought my rims. the brand is gislaved, they are a sweedish tyre, and are apparently good lol. the place i bought them off are replacing all 4 tyres (with a different brand ).

  12. i purchased some tyres about 6 months ago, and have done no more than 3000 ks on them. on my way to New Plymouth, going 100kph and on a corner, my right front tyre decided to do this:

    post-73140-1278409280_thumb.jpg

gave me and the girlfriend a bit of a fright, we were lucky no one was coming the opposite direction or we would have been toast. so when your buying tyres stick with ones that youve heard of!

  13. I have the exact same problem with misfires on cold start. Car idles a bit rough also when it's cold but on warmer mornings this does not happen.

I have new splitfire coilpacks and new platinum plugs and also second hand r34 gtr AFMs, this has reduced the misfires but I can still feel it. Like others once the car warms up it's fine.

Might be a plug gap problem? If so then should I get some copper NGKs and get them gapped to 0.8mm?

yeah id start with the plug gap, its easy to do yourself, and will take under an hour. then work from there

  14. check the spark plugs as well, my 25det was miss-firing a bit, i changed the plugs and re-gapped them to .8 and it was all good, only cost me $12. also, if you have a series 2, check the coil packs, they are prone to forming hairline cracks which the spark jumps from. if they are bung, try repairing them before buying new ones, theres some good threads on how to repair them on here.

  15. if yor profec b isnt up to the job. you should look at the jaycar iebc. i know with a lot of IW turbos, thy hav a drop off in power at higher rpm. the jaycar item allows you to have two boost maps. those maps are fully tuneable allowing you to open/close the WG in small increments when you want. so you can close the WG slightly at the higher rpm to keep that power curve nice and steady. for eg. you can have a wet wether map set at say 10psi, you can tell it to start opening the wg fairly quikly, thus slowly building boost to stop that insane wheel spin in the wet.

you can also have a hi map set to 18psi, keeping the WG shut as long as possible to bring the boost on as quik as possible, then slightly shut the WG at higher rpms to keep that curve steady.

    food for thought

  16. Are HKS split dump pipes any good or am i better off sticking with my 3 inch bellmouth dump/front pipe?

i dont think you will get a huge gain, if any going from your 3" bellmouth to a hks item. you should spend the money on something else

  17. ive heard of some people who had the split front pipe came accross over-boosting issues??

i wouldnt buy some of the stainless dump pipes off ebay, as they are quite thin and can crack easily.

it sounds like you are using a r32 actuator, as they are 12psi (i think). if your running your stock turbo i would take that actuator off and put the old one back on (sell the 12psi one as i think they are quite saught after??), as putting the zorst on, it will up your boost around 2psi. so 14ish psi on stock turbo wont last long. i say just go for the just jap 3" mild steel bellmouth dump/front pipe. hope i helped

  18. Well, thanks for that info.

Hamilton... not far from Waitomo is it? If so, I loved the atmosphere of New Plymouth when I was there. I don't know what it's like nowadays. I haven't been there since '91.

its about an hour from Waitomo, havent been to New Plymouth in a couple of years, i love the drive down there, nice and windy :) it was awesome in the subie, lookin forward to take the skyline down there!

  19. I hear that Developers are trying to market high rise apartments in Wellington with views over the harbour.

How's real estate growth atm Rene?

Brisbane > NZ. hmmm... you must notice the cold!

real estats a bit of a low point at the moment, good time to buy.

suprisingly it does actually get quite warm here during summer, its weird our high 20's and low 30's is lik your guys mid to high 30's. but in winter its a completely different story haha, -2 degrees thick as fog, rain ;) thats when i wish i was back in brizzy.

and yes an esky is an esky, not a chillie bin (or "chullie bun" if u say it like some of us kiwis :bunny: )

    thongs are thongs, not jandals

doona is a doona not a duve

i get some funny looks, when i refer to thongs in public sometimes haha

  20. Glad to have you on board Rene!

We hope you get all the info you need for your improvements. Cars look nice - real nice. The B4 has a really high-grade sound system in it too eh?

But hey, the sound system in my Forester XT is used - and the sound system in my 'Line is not (unless it's a long country drive).

I've been to NZ twice - and I love the place.

1st time in '75 was a pharmacy conference.

2nd time in '91 was to take the family.

I have never struck rain at Milford Sound in the 3x I've been there - nor Mt Taranaki - nor Doubtfull Sound! Lucky eh?

If I go again, I want to do the Tongariro Walk + Cape Kidnappers/Napier + White Island + some more Fiordland; hmmm... maybe Milford Track (with insecticide & iPod) lol

uh well i ripped the stereo out of the b4 pretty much as soon as i got it lol. yeah seems like you got lucky with it not raining lol, they dont measure annual rainfall down there in mm they use meters haha. insecticide is a must those sand flies are massive lol. havent really done much in the south island, ive only moved here a few years ago, before that i was at boarding school in brisbane.

    Cheers guys

  21. Hi there guys, im from Hamilton New Zealand (go the all blacks lol), this is my secound skyline i have owned, and i have also owned a Subaru legacy B4 twin turb (i think you call them liberties??) anyways i have done bugger all to it. i have put some deep dish mags on 17x9s front and 17x10s rear with stretched tyres on, tinted windows and a full clarion sounds install. i got my skyline as an import late last year with only 67000ks and in mint condition (fully stock). like all, i have big plans for it but im in no real hurry. this forum is like my bible, there is tonnes if info on here, its never ending!!
