Whats Easier, Remove Gearbox Or Not?

alright, ill leave it in place then, we were thinking that would be the best way to do it anyway, so your saying if we unbold the gearbox from the engine we will need something to hold it in place so it doesnt fall to the ground? i dont think we have a trolley jack is there anything else we can use? im not sure mate, one would think a stronger gearbox wouldnt be a problem with a non turbo engine attached to it, guess only time will tell.. -
any takers?? already emailing a couple of people..

me & a mate are pulling the rb25det out of his r33 & putting a standard rb25de in because the det is f***ed, we have everything unbolted, nothing is attached to the block so it is just sitting in the engine bay, we have a good engine crane but we cant figure out how to remove the tail shaft from the gearbox, is it worth just unbolting the gearbox from the block & bolting it straight onto the new engine block when we put it in? if its easier to remove the gearbox & put it on the new engine before we install it? it would be great if someone could explain what we have to do to remove the tail shaft & what we have to unbold off the gearbox to do so.. cheers.

yeah i understand that, i looked at the market value of a subaru i have & it said $4,500, then i done the search for the skyline & it said between 2 figures ($5,700 - $7,600), i need to know if there is an exact market value or not for the skyline..? sometimes vic roads ask for the market value of a car do i just say $5,700 - $7,600?

howdy.. i currently own a Subaru Impreza GX 1997 1.6lt 4 cylinder Auto, front wheel drive, seriously an awesome car, never had a single problem with it, engine is small but so is the car so it goes well, i've never paid more then $35 to fill it up from almost empty, i love it & my girlfriends going to most likely kill me because she likes it more then i do because it is a hatch & easy to transport her multese shih-tzu but i am looking at swapping it because i want another skyline (i've had 2 & love them). i've owned the car since june this year, if i had the $$$ i would keep it & buy a skyline, it has 4 doors, just clocked up 150,000km, timing belt was done at 101,000km, full service history, brand new tyres within the last 3 months with recipts, has 17" gold rims, subaru genuine roof racks (removable) jvc flip open head unit with standard speakers, full body kit with a small crack on the rear of the body, brand new aftermarket halo headlights (comes with old ones as well to keep for spare parts), brand new chrystal fog lights all wired into switches on the dash, makes the front end look about 10 years newer, it has 2006 liberty seats in the front & back, any more info dont hesitate to ask.. it's really good because the cops never pull you over haha, so if you are looking to change to a more family like/cheaper to run car, this is good for you, i am in no huge rush to get rid of it so when the right car comes along i'll gladly organise to meet & compair... i am after a Nissan Skyline RB25DE GTS 2 Door Manual, or a stock s14 200sx, doesnt matter what colour, as long as its done 150,000kms or less & the engine is not completely thrashed like some r33's ill seriously consider it, feel free to PM me.. im located in wodonga, victoria (on the nsw/vic border about 3 hours from melbourne) will happily travel.

alright thanks allot I will check out a few reversing camera attachment wires & find the right headunit to get it all working, just wanted to assure myself that it was possible to do, with technology these days it's hard to get everything working compatible with each other, just have to be sure.. ive been looking for dvd/nav lcd screens on ebay & have decided i want to get a reversing camera to go with it that will also operate through the same screen, i checked out all the reversing cameras on ebay & they mostly come with there own screen or center mirror screen which im not interested in, i want to be able to operate the reversing camera, audio/dvd & nav from the 1 unit, i've already found the dvd screen i want to buy just not sure what it needs to have to connect a reversing camera to it. anybody done this before?

there also holding a 1.8 tonne caravan so they should easily be strong enough to withold the weight of my 1997 subaru impreza hatch haha

recently purchased a new car, had it checked over by a mechanic & it came back completely fine apart from the tires, im a little broke right now & the car is going into the mechanic in my town thursday morning for roadworthy, i've been trying all my friends to borrow someones wheels so it will pass, failed badly at that idea.. i was sitting out the back thinking what to do next and i spotted my 4 wheel caravan, went and looked at the wheels they are the exact same height & width as the tires on my car & the stud patten is perfect.. can i use them or is there some reason why i cant? hope this isn't a stupid question its a last resort kind of thing.

OEM coil packs are roughly $1,200 for a set of 6 according to another forum, yellow jackets have a good reputation on SAU forums, im thinking about getting a set when tax comes in, good reputation, less then $400, not to bad if you ask me.

yeah i have an igniter pack at the back of the rocker cover, i was just asking because i wasnt sure if series 1 coil packs would run well with a series 2 engine, would it run more natural with a series 2 wire setup? or should it be the same either way?

i have an RB25DET Series 2 R33 Skyline with a series 1 ignition loom, 1 of my coil packs has karked it so i've decided to replace the lot as there all looking pretty old and worn. question 1. should i buy series 1 or series 2 coil packs? is there any difference? question 2. will my ignition loom clips plug into series 1 & series 2 coil packs?? question 3. what are the best coil packs on the market? Splitfire, Yellow Jacket?? etc.. im not sure why my series 2 RB25DET is running a series 1 loom, it was done by the old owner, im sure there is a good explanation for it tho, if anyone thinks its not a good idea please let me know, id hate to damage something.

I know what you mean, I had the car running in the "chug chug" state and pulled each of them clips out then back in again one by one and the cars power would drop a little bit more each time, so it would go from low to lower (almost to stalling point), they all dropped more power while the car was running bad so this tells me that it has to be another problem otherwise one of the clips wouldn't of changed the power. Hope that makes sense.

yeah but my oil pressure doesnt sit in one spot, my oil tank is completely full because i changed my oil this morning so it should be peaking but after 20 mins of the car idling the oil pressure dropped from 3/4 up the guage to not even a 1/4 it constantly drops when i rev it goes back up but slowly goes right back to the bottom again.

i checked out everything, still couldnt find anything, i did however let the car run for bout 20 mins, it was running alright, not shaking so i took it around the block, when i got home it started shaking on idle, i got back in the car & revved it a little and noticed the oil pressure guage was going up and down when i was revving it is this normal? is there any change i could of blown a head gasket? i have found traces of oil inside my air pipes.

i've been trying to hear air coming out but its just the sound of the engine chugging away, i've checked all the vaccum lines that go to the back of the inlet manifold there is 2 nozzles one has been blocked by a screw and the other one goes around to the BOV, there is one vaccuum nozzle going into the side of the inlet manifold (on the inside) that goes around to a plastic gadget between the pod & radiator & there is also another nozzle at the front of the inlet manifold that also goes to the plastic gadget, i've taken every vaccum line completely out and tested them for leaks, im pretty sure there is no leaks im starting to think maybe the car has a different problem.. its fairly obvious that the car is not running well from the rear all i hear is putt putt putt like there isnt a constant flow of exhaust it sounds more like its coming out in sections, when i rev the car it does the same thing but faster and the whole engine shakes, then if i leave the car for a few days it will run completely normal and after about 20 mins it will start doing it again backfiring from time to time. im not sure if i've already checked the boost line with the clips as you say, i'll have to check this out tomorrow im pretty sure everything that has air flowing through it i checked today tho.. thanks for all the info.

i found another 2 vaccum lines on the front & side rear of the head that run under the head past the radiator and into a plastic unit near the pod, these 2 vaccum lines and the vaccum line that goes to the BOV are all working good and have no holes for boost leaks, all my piping is tight i went through and pulled it all out and put it all back in again tighening every hose clamp i could find, i also inspected every rubber elbow to see if there was cracks or anything, alls good. so im still questioning whats wrong with the engine i've ruled out an electric problem and a boost problem. any other ideas?
