I have had a couple of issues quite recently. 1st of all the car started to stall mostly when I slowed down at the traffic lights. It's quite strange as the car would stall without any sign at all. I mean no shaking, chocking or jumping up an down. when it happens, it takes a bit of time to start the car. you need to hold the key for at least 4 to 5 seconds to restart the car. I thought the fuel pump was playing up so I changed it. , I had a quick look at one of the spark plugs to see the condition and it seems like there is nothing wrong with it so I assume that others are pretty much the same. The 2nd issue I had was a bit scary. I was on the freeway, doing 100km/h and all of a sudden the rpm went all the way down to zero and luckily all the way back to 3000rpm. However the car was stalled for a split second. I did shit my pants as you would imagine what might have happened. I had a quick look at the air filter, Mass Air Flow Sensor, and throttle body. It seems like everything is ok. Do you have any recommendations about what I should check or do to sort this issue out? Your help is appreciated. cheers

Hi guys, I'm planning to replace the spark plugs soon, but not sure about the part number. I have read a number of posts but most of them are about v35s with different engine types. Mine is VQ30DD direct injection and it seems like the direct injection engines use different sparkplugs. Can anyone tell me the part number of the spark plugs that i need? Your help is highly appreciated.

One last question. As the mechanic diagnosed the problem as the variable valve timing control system....... sort of thing which is causing the noise, what is the repair procedure or what kind of parts needed for the job? what exactly is it that I would need to replace? I send an e-mail to an auto wrecker who has three v35s in stock and he gave me $275 for pair, I dont know what he is talking about and I dont wanna get things that I would not need Regards
-
there was no error code at all. but when the mechanic removed the blue cap with wires there was no sound at all. I already sent a message to one of the wreckers here in Melbourne. I know that they do have a few v35s. So we will see what they will say. I was thinking of removing the cover of that variable valve timing unit which sits right beside the fan and the air filter unit in order to inspect the unit and see if there is any visible damage. however i'm a little bit reluctant as i dont know if I could do it or not. it seems like it has a few bolts holding it, but no idea what sort of gasket it has and whether it should be replaced or not. Basically, i'm mechanically illiterate just trying to identify the exact problem so that i dont waste anymoney and get parts that i would not need. I reckon I will take it to Nissan and get a comprehensive problem diagnosis and know exactly what the hell is wrong. I appreciate your help and thanks hips.

Clicking/rattling Noise When Engine Rev
NISMO-61 replied to Meebs's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I just had the same issue. I was wondering what you have done regarding the issue? Did you get it done or is it still there? -
Hi Guys, Finally we figured out what the hack was wrong and it turned out to be the Variable valve Timing.....stuff. It seems like this is a common problem for this car as the mechanic didnt even think about it. He said he had three more V35 with the same issue. When you remove the blue cap with the wires, there is no noise. He said it costs $$$$$$ to get it fixed. Other than higher fuel consumption, would that cause any harm to the engine if I unplug it and drive? One more thing regarding the oil change, do you reckon it would make any difference. I'm thinking of getting Mobil 1 10-40W. how many liters do i need for this engine? regards
-
Ok Let summarize the whole issue and put the pieces together; the car makes that noise when the engine is warm, when its cold no noise at all. when the car is in idle, no noise at all if it's the timing chain, the sound should be there all the time, right? If it is the injector, why would it do it when its only warm, but not do it when it's cold and why will itl make the noise after 1000Rpm and not after 2000-2500Rpm. I'm just trying to put things together to understand the issue. I will take it to Nissan hopefully this week and see what they come up with. Please share any info & expertise you have as it would get back to you as appreciation. regards

I doubt it might be the timing chain. without appropriate tools it's too hard to diagnose where the noise comes from, but i just did a quick check and, the noise wasnt there until the engine reached its normal temperature. then it started. the most possible location of the noise was the timing chain. If so, what i do not understand is why it starts after warm-up and doesnt happen when the engine is cold? Any idea>

Do you think an injector would make such a noise. I'm %100 sure that the noise is coming from whatever is underneath the intake manifold collector. well the injectors are right there anyway. We removed the intake manifold collector before thinking that it might be causing the issue, but no. We removed the upper and lover plenum. The thing is when the car speeds up, you don't hear it. maybe because of the road noise, It's more obvious when you stop and then accelerate to move, then you hear the sound. If it is the injector, would that be normal; making noise while accelerating, not making the noise over 2500rpm. Cheers guys.

Hi all, I need mechanical advice regarding a bloody annoying noise coming from the intake manifold area. Actually the sound (which is kind of ticking as it goes like "tick tick tick tick" after 1000rpm. When it goes over 2000rpm, you don't hear it. When I removed the engine cover(the plastic one) it is %100 obvious that the noise is coming from underneath the intake manifold assembly. A few weeks ago, I removed the whole manifold thing to see if there was something wrong with it, but it was totally ok as there was no part in it that would make that noise. whatever sits underneath the manifold is possibly causing the noise. I don't have much mechanical information about the engine, therefore I need help to figure out what might be the problem so that I can take it from there. Extra info; when the engine is cold, it doesn't do that noise. when it's warm, then the action starts. Engine performance is as usual. When the car is in idle, there is no sound as well. Any help would be highly appreciated. By the way , would you be able to recommend any mechanic in the northern suburbs of Melbourne who knows about this cars? Regards and thanks in advance. Your help is highly appreciated.

I'm with Justcars and just pay $850 something for comprehensive cover. However my excess is high as i intentionally kept it high to lower the premium. I had two accidents so far, one was my fault and the other one was the other party's. I had no issues with my claims. By the way the one which wasnt my fault cost around $8K to fix as the lady behind me ran into my car and rear bumper had to be replaced. Sooo what was i saying...... If you change little bits and pieces, I would not call them modification and would not bother to call the insurance as they take it seriously. the worst case scenario, if something happens to.... lets say your clear side indicator, they would replace it with the original one (orange one). But once you give them a class and say I did this change, they would be more than happy to charge you more.

Skyline 300Gt 83.5Kw At The Wheels Wtf?!?
NISMO-61 replied to Soltek2002's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
that's totally wrong mate. I do have the same car 2001 300GT, and they do a lot better than that. Well it might be 185 rather than 85kw. When I went to Tasmania, I gave it a go and the car hit 180km/h and it was like driving at 100km/h. It was still speeding up. So what i'm trying to say is, this car with this engine and the design would do way better than that. Ask them to do it again (for free) and do it appropriately. -
I dont think you would need the code as they would figure it out on the computer (If you are planning DIY, thats a different story) Ohhhh make sure they paint the whole sections. If they just paint a a small area around the damage and polish the rest of the section (which happened to me) it would be visible. I think the damage is on the passenger side door. So I would get the whole thing painted. Good luck

I had the same issue when I got my car ages ago. I simply removed the unit and give it a nice kick, then all the CDs came out, but mine had other issues (no sound at all) you might wanna give it a go. Remove the unit and shake it a little bit. or better replace it with a 7" DVD player as I did.

NISMO-61 replied to mjay's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
holly crap. Do they look at your air filter too. I wish they had stopped my and helped me identify the bloody rear wheel bearing noise. I had to go to ten different mechanics. -
