  1. Realistically though you shouldn't be driving that hard in the first 5 mins anyway as you need to let your car warm up. So it was a non-issue as far as i see it.

Same. 255 all round RSR on the GTR (235 all round RSR on the Sierra) - very good tyre and I am not sure why people are complaining about wet weather performance.... they are "good" in the wet.... but giving it heaps in a turbo car in the wet is not my style... prefer to slow a little and look out a bit more for road numpties. Never had it sideways in the wet when I did not want it to be.

  2. I have found pfc to be inconsistant. Sometime (mostly) 40 or so is actually pinging.

A GTR i did today was pinging with a knock reading on 19 which means it didnt actually pick up the detonation.

Best to get it checked where possible. But the norm is over 40 is real det

I found on my gtr apexi djetro on a low load ping read about 20. I occasionally still get over 100 on crank I presume from starter motor mesh? The base ignition map has a lot of low load advance. After some fiddling now I never get more than 12. Reset max timing to no more than 32 (was 48) and varified number with timing light. Bp98 always used.

  3. If memory serves me correctly in the late 80s era competition teams were finding that prolonged use off high speed and boost were causing lean outs which could damage pistons etc . I think it was Murray Coote that burnt a Familiar rally engine on some event that included long stages of full speed full load running . You would expect that everything could become heat soaked particularly in hot weather and a slow reacting temperature probe could make a difference . Its hard to imagine it doing much in a road car here driven at legal speeds .

    A .

Looking at my other car ecu calibration... the fuel multiplier for two different air temp breakpoints 40deg to 20deg are 1 : 1.023.... or in other words 2.3% difference in fuel - lets say we aimed for 12:1 at a particular point in the map then 2.3% difference is 12.27:1 - I know it may not look like much difference but it is.

Looks like datalogit is the go - and now to find an Air Temp sensor!

  4. Thanks for the responses so far... a wealth of knowledge.

Unless I am missing something, there is no accessable trim tables for air temp correction via the hand controller. I assume they are embedded into the algorthm for final ignition and final fuel pulse within the unit and setup from Apexi?

The airtemp sensor on the GTR plenum is standard.

The issue with it is the sensor gets heatsoaked from being directly mounted to the engine via the plenum.

Best to move it to either the cold side of the intercooler core or the cooler piping after the cooler to get accurate results

Does simply moving the standard sensor make the whole system run better (i.e. correct fuel/ignition for a given air temp?).

  5. Hello all,

I have an Apexi Djetro (in before the cries of get a Haltec/Motec/Paltronic :)) on a RB26 and have been monitoring the Air Temp for a while via the hand controller.

As the standard RB ran AFM do they also have an Air Temp sensors? Or is this been added when the Apexi was fitted?

I think it may be this sensor in the front of the plenum?

    IMG_0835_zpsb2d948a3.jpg

I have noticed that the Air Temp does not vary wildly it stays around 45 deg when moving along. When standing it reaches 50 deg and then take 10 mins to creep back down to 45 or so. If the ambient changes 15 deg then there is no effect still 45 deg. It has a largish HKS intercooler as well as a couple of R34 N1's running 15psi so they are working hardish with all standard 32GTR piping and plenum in place.

    This leads me to a few posibilities I am hoping someone can answer;

    1) The Air Temp sensor installation is wrong and I am measuring plenum temperature? I need to correct this with either a different sensor or different installation?

    2) The Air Temp sensor installation is right and the air temps recorded are correct? Perhaps then the RB is a candidate for a phenolic spacer between plenum and head?

I am a newbie with these engines.

  6. There is a special way to prep and store them, 24hrs isn't long enough for the full benefits ;)

But that said, they will still taste awesome :D

darlek voice TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER /dalek voice

I cannot recreate the fall off the bone as soon as you look at them of the originals.

  7. Oh and i forgot to mention - It's a Squires Loft, in Nunawading, going to be awesome :)

Squires!!!!!!!!! i will be your best customer! As as coincidence I am marinating some home bought ribs in their marinade for dinner tonight!

  8. Interested. Running an Apexi Djetro but will soonish change this... however the car is going well and I have tweaked it a bit.... anyway enough rambling. i was going to change the complete loom anyway for a NOS loom. So interested and will buy in the next month or so.

Edit - just realised you not talking about ecu loom. Sorry, interested in ecu loom made out of tefzel/braid.

  9. only if you like booze and cars.

rest of it is fairly boring

Haha. Just got back from the fatherland two days ago. I am a big fan of pilseners when I am there. So easy to drink, not filling, and can easily get very pissed with no hangovers in the morning. Been there three times this year.... I think one more trip this year but fark it's getting cold there soon (west Rhineland).

I have found the German's to be very nice people, who love their families and friends, good morals, good workers.

/End world domination.... they do it this time by being the last non-asian country actually manufacturing.

  10. spent 14k on my 32. went faster.

haha... peak hp in a line is not always faster. I have had 200hp in Mk2 Escort, my GTR is approx 400hp (15psi on R34 N1's with cams?) and my Sierra is a genuine 450HP on a hot day.

And yet i think the Focus would whip them all evading the Police in the backstreets.

  11. Yeah... 56K spent - i tried to talk him into spending that monies on an Escort Cosworth, E30 M3, M36 M3R, old prosche, but now do feel he has chosen the best car for him. He is 66 and was going to spend on a Audi S3 before I had an "intervention". It has surprised me how good it is and I have never been a FWD fan. As I said very fast around town... he had a modded XR6 Turbo before this, while faster in a straight, not as quick to drive.

  12. mind blown.

Haha... well I have. Not seen any Jap cars in Europe with it... nor any Euro cars in Japan with it. Now you point it out... my bad.... I am a little derailed some times.

OP sorry but what about Porsche Riviera Blue it looks sooo good as a colour in the flesh... (not the best in the pics but awesome and sort of looks midway between the colours from the falken cars which also look uber cool).

  13. Sorry to say this - your car seems to be a net for a big fish.... since not insured, been rebirthed, missing parts seems the car will not be as you expect anyway. Not trying to rain on your parade just that probably not much more you could do on this.... can you see the state of the car as lawyering up might cost more than the value of the car. Seems like you have been given the chance to talk to the Police.... you should take it, tell him you are a victim and are upset, see what he says. He should be honest and might tell you even though it has been found it is a lost cause persueing it further, but rather waiting for it after the case.... rebirthed, uninsurable and maybe unregisterable.

  14. mate had a green RS, looked beautiful for the whole month that he kept it

Dad has a white MK2 Focus RS I am sure to get my hands on one day....mhahahaha! They look sooooo good in the flesh... like some sort of alien bug. It makes both the Sierra and R32 look dated and I consider both timeless designs! Also probably the fastest "point to point in the side streets" car I have driven.

  15. 12:35 today white r32 in warrandyte - flashed each other / thumbs up - looked awesome mate!

Yep mate - your car looks awesome. 33GTR look so good with WIIIIIIIIDE wheels. Off now to stalk your threads looking for more pics of your car.
