  1. I have recently finished rebuilding my engine and have noticed that the alternator is not charging the battery below 3000RPM. I have also noticed that my GTST does not have the Battery Light on, on the dashboard when the key is in the accessories position. I am aware that in some cars, the Globe forms part of the alternator exciter circuit. Is this the case with the R33? If this is the case simply replacing the globe ought to restore the exciter circuit. Anyone have any experience with this. Thank you in advance
  2. I just have a question that appears not to have an easy answer. I have recently noticed that I was leaking coolant behind the engine on my S1 R33. I was able to trace it down to coming out of a hole above a core plug. This hole I believe functions as a drain for the Spark Plug valley. However next to the spark plugs are what look to be either bolt or plugs that coolant seems to be leaking out of. I tried tried to unbolt these, however they are impossible to remove, what's further is that any application of force seems to strip what appears to be a Hex head. I have measured the inner diameter of the Hex head with a vernier caliper and it is 10.5mm, which is pretty odd. For the moment I have applied some sealant to this to stop the leak. Any comments if the pictured are bolts or plugs? (Please note: not my engine)
  3. There is notyhing wrong with my Hydraulic Lifters, I just want to know where I can purchase them from. As I am slowly building up a parts supplier database (other than nissan). At the moment, the lifters are very load on startup, but not for long, usually around 3 minutes then they are quiet, until the car goes completely cold again. So far this is a sign of working oil galleries and thin oil (10 30W). However it's only a matter of time before the circulating oil delivers a contaminant to the lifters that will shut one or several down. Unfortunately I don not have a garage that I can dissasemble the Valve train, and service the lifters myself. So it would be easier to get them from somewhere else (other than nissan), and pay my mechanic to replace the lifter set. Thank you for your replies
  4. I was wondering if it is possible to get hydraulic lifters for an RB25DET (R33 Skyline) from some where else other than Nissan. If so, who supplies them? Thank You
  5. Hi All. I have recently purchased a R33 Series one. What I have noticed at first was that it would idle hunt when warm, so much so that if left unchecked would stall. So over a matter of two weeks I cleaned the AAC valve and found a vacuum leak. The Oil Breather hose was split on the right side, so i replaced the oil breather hose with a second hand one, and replaced most of the vacuum hoses on the car, so now there is no ovious leak anywhere in the engine bay. Now the idle seems to have settled down, however it still hunts by about 50 - 100 rpm, the needle moves very slightly, Is this normal for an RB engine or is something else going on that I am not privy to? Also there is a ticking sound at the back of the engine, near the power transistor pack and AAC valve area, it is not a rhythmic tick, but comes on and off occasionally, usually followed by one tick, then quickly by a double tick. This only occurs during Idle, is this just the AAC valve doing it's job?
  6. No one has any idea or reply. Anyone care to shed some light on this?
  7. awsam have you had any luck with this I am having the same problems as you are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it just a matter of replacing the HICAS ECU?
  8. I am having the exact same issues as nsdq, where you able to solve your problem, or did you ever find out what the cause was?
  9. I have recently purchased a 94 R33 GTST, Manual. Has a blow off valve fitted, stock ECU, turbo upgrade (I Believe). I have had it for two weeks however I noticed that after driving it for a while, the RPM at idle would start dropping from 800 slowly overtime down to 500 where it would start hunting between 500-700. So this Saturday just for a laugh I decided to disconnect the TPS when the car was idling. After I disconnected it, the engine became a little upset and started hunting wildly, so i thought I had found the problem and as such i cleaned the AAC valve (before i found out there was a tutorial on here, although i did it in much the same way). That seemed to fix the oproblem a little bit, however it still hunts occasionally, and when you turn the Aircon on, it destabilises, behaves almost like a critically under damped sinusiod, i.e. it takes it a long time to settle, sometimes it doesn't. Also found that the AFM has been changed on this moddel as the connecter seems to have been spliced baddly (I am a particular fan of poor workmanship) into the loom. I found that out when I pinched the connection the engine stalled, so i have re-spliced the connections to the AFM and it seems to be fine now. Though it still hunts when it feels like it. Also when I played around with the AAC valve and readjusted the idle, there seemed to be little change in RPM, except that one position made it more stable than any other (between 750-780RPM). So is the idle screw an Idle adjust or are you adjusting the gain in a Proportional-Integral loop for idle control? I will clean the AFM in the comming week, could it be the TPS, if so what is the quickest way to adjust the TPS? Any help and comments would be greatly appreciated, thank you. P.S. On a side note, does anyone have any experience in dealing with Osborne Motors in Perth? I am looking for a good mechanic in that area. I have had a look, not the most glamorous of places however they are a Nissan Certified Mechanic (can do Nissan log book services), are members of MTAWA and are autherised serv group members. When I talked to them they claim to be quiet comfortable in servicing Skylines (of course they would claim that). However I did see them reconditioning two RB25DETs. Any comments would be greatly welcomed. Thank You all.
  10. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone or everyone could please recommend a reputable service centre in Perth WA. I am generally looking for a business that is very reliable and can guarantee their work and that are also competitively priced. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
