  1. I'm Having the same problem, although ive managed to pinpoint it slightly, if looking at the car from the front the sound is coming from the right hand side of the engine, at the back, close to the firewall, kinda just above where i can see my o2 sensor plug, its a consistent tick tick tick tick tick, jsut like a clock thats a little fast, and it does also seem to go away when engine ahs done some work, but eventually comes back. what i didnt think to try, was holding the rpm higher then 650-700 and check if the sound recedes, but i'll give it a go when i get home. a friend of mine said it was defs lifters, and not to worry, but after reading this thread, it makes me want to double check my diagnosis, also, if it is the injectors, does anyone think that an injector bath would help/solve the problem, and or, has anyone actually got results from the injector bath? oh and by the way, big end bearing noise and lower end tap is incredibly hard to mistake for a ticking, its more like rapping your knuckles on metal, or a clacking sound like some angry kid with a pair of chopsticks being a noisy bugger, ive seen cases of piston slap on smaller engines, and they make quite the distinctive sound, even if your born blind, deaf and daft, you cant miss it, maybe the daft one might, but you get my point. im quite nooby when it comes to RB's, i know the basics like oil/filters etc, but ive never had the top off of my neo6, so i have no idea where even the plugs are! good advice everyone btw, so helpful, and no flaming, wtf? is this a forum with real people on it?
  2. Hey guys, my stock er34 1998 gt-t with a neo6 is doing some wierd shit, mainly the turbo gauge in my triple meter (far right in the pic below) , is occasionally bottoming out past 0, and isnt actually doing anything at all when car is running most of the time, it sits at 0 all the time, which i find wierd, isnt a gauge supposed to move as whatever it monitors changes? and yes, i did check, the engine definitely has a turbo attached to it still(a friend of mine asked me"does your car even have a turbo?" ) used to work fine, but the last few thousand k's or so, probably longer, its been doing the aformentioned strange stuff. is that normal? are turbo's meant to occasionally have negative pressure? i havent noticed a change in engine response or lack of power, or even any funny noises, turbo still spools up fine, i can still feel it go vroom when i give it the boot, so maybe the gauge is buggered? i took it out of the dash, checked the continuity etc of most of the circuitry, it seems fine, almost like the gauge isnt getting any response from a sensor? should i pilfer a vacuum hand pump from my work and test the sensor? or just take it to my mechanic and say go nuts. any ideas? if anyone has had this problem before some info would be great:S havent noticed anything in the forums anywhere, so lets hope im not the first and my search skills are just lame.
  3. 1 of the 34's is having a strange uneven idle, not really bad, just sound unusual, was suggested somewhere it was probably my coilpacks on the way out( have no idea how to test them:S). injectors would be something ill be needing to change in the near future on the other 34, i have no idea why, as my mechanic didnt specify, but ill be sure to double check with him what the deal is on injectors. do you happen to know if you can get the pulleys as a seperate item to match the belt? i already have the belt, found it in the boot with some castrol oil , i doublechecked it to make sure it was the right one, apparently previous owner was getting ready for 100thou service, but decided to sell due to financial difficulty, poor bugger. cheers for the help
  4. so Mobil 0w40 is the way to go then? when i purchased the car it came with a 5litre of castrol 0w40 in the boot, so i assumed twas' decent, ill look into chaning it, should i flush the oil out with a random crappy oil before changing to mobil? work at repco? LEGEND! cheers for the help
  5. Eep, after reading this forum post, i downloaded ecutalk, bought the ecutalk usb consult cable(which was absolutely for dummies to setup), unfortunately my fault code got wiped when we installed the stereo, so i had to wait for it. now its back! its a Code 33, O2S1 (0 starts), all i can figure it would be, is my o2 sensor is ballzup, so i went for a leisurely cruise, and noticed something odd, my o2 sensor voltage starts at.3v and slowly drops to .13v, it occasionally jumps back up to about .15 .16v then just hovers back at .13, is that unusual? i thought it should be jumping around a little in readings, like when i floor it, or granny it around teh burbs. anyone who has had this error and has a good fix any advice? or should i just yank out the o2 sensor, and drop in an ntk replacement?
  6. Xenon or standard? and are all the mounts intact for the headlight? pics would be great
  7. Hey guys, im a newbie to sau, recently purchased an er34 myself, and now have 2 in the household. I might ask some dumb questions on the forums sometimes as i happen to be completely new to the import scene, so i expect to get flamed, but i can also help out a little with some of the interior stuff like lighting, aircon etc, as its kinda one of my part time hobby's. im sure ill enjoy my stay:D cheers
  8. hey guys im new to SAU, i have done a fair amount of searching on the forums, as i am looking for a list of part numbers for my 1998 er34 running an rb25det neo. everything under the hood is stock, except the exhaust, its in dire need of its 100 thou service, and im busy rounding up parts, i also need to know the best oil for engine, trans, diff, best coolant to use. bearing in mind this car is only for street use at this point in time, i would still like to spend that little extra to make sure she runs sweet. here's what ive got so far: 1.air filter = RYCO A360 2.fuel filter = RYCO Z200 3.oil filter = RYCO Z145A 4.engine oil = CASTROL edge 0w40 5.sparkplugs = NGK PFRGG-11, or iridium BKR6EIX-11 6.timing belt = BOSCH BT1040H are these good choices? if not, can you list a better one, and also, part numbers/names i dont have yet are: 7.tensioner pulley = 8.idler pulley = 9.air con belt = 10.power steering belt = 11.brake pads = 12.clutch fluid = 13.brake fluid = 14.coolant = 15.thermostat = 16.oxygen sensor = 17.water pump = 18.injectors (stock?) = 19.coil packs = im sure there is many more parts that need the occasional replace, but im new to imports and skylines in particular, and by new i mean a total noob any help would be greatly appreciated, the more recommendations the better, as it will help build a solid list of parts for this model. I am more then happy to help people on this forum identify and replace any lighting bulbs, both exterior and interior in the r34, as i have done a complete refit of every bulb in the car, and i can also detail any particulars and diy to help you install custom bulbs yourself, even with a few pictures included. cheers lads, ladies, and haters:D
