Best Tyre/wheel Sizes For Handling
rs88 replied to rs88's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Yeah I know.. that thread has more on 20"s... However.. for example.. dropping to 18's and using a wheel calculator I have to change to 275/40-18 which would give me the following: d=26.66 w=4.33 +0.62% Then the questions that I don't have answers are 1) 40 vs 30 for sidewall - is that enough? or still too little? Should I be looking at 45s? 2) Is this tyre size 275/40 18 common enough for both price and variety? 3) Or... I have to bite the bullet and go for less wide? -
Hi Guys, sorry to bring up an old topic.... Been doing heaps of research in the past few days.. but I don't have straight answers..to the following What's the best wheel/tyre size for the V coupe against common tyre sizes (which means best range of rubber at better prices.. ) Currently running FR 245/30 R20, 275/30 R20 ... want to go down to either 18/19s"... Love to keep the same 275 on the rears....

Another good point Sig.. that's the reason why I posted this... I didn't think of that business relationship between retailer and manufacturer. By the way, thanks guys for all your views.. that's why I love this forum!!! Sam, you're right.. that's how I feel at the moment.

Imported Skyline Odometer Readings
rs88 replied to johnnydibo's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Yeah.. I agree with Seano350GT .. check the condition of the car mats.. pull it, check the carpets.. worn steering wheel.. pedals.. if its too good to be true.. its usually is! -

Lol! True.. but relationships extend to maintaining my cars.. not just tyres.. Easier to drop off the car and get someone to look after it.. time is short these days.. My opinion ... as long as it is FREE.. Any grog will do!
-
Good point Tony350. Best be upfront .. Same issues with Retailers and people buying stuff overseas.. however in this case, there's not much relationship there to begin with.

Can anyone recommend a tuner here in Sydney?
-
Guys.. I have a good "working relationship" with my mechanic.. looks after all my cars.. including the V ..... Always trust his judgement in regards to tyres/mechanics... stuff like that.. Always kept him in beer and of course.. I get freebies back ... Now.. I'm thinking of changing my 20" tyres.. and found cheaper prices out there.... I don't want to break this relationship that I have.. I know most of the time you pay the higher prices at these places for other services.. like free tyre alignment/balancing when you get tyres from them.. I just want to understand from anyone who have similar situations or even worked at these places.. to give their opinion....

Handling Characteristics Of The V Coupe?
rs88 replied to rs88's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Wow! Thanks for all the responses! Well.. coming out of the Chrissy period with my wallet burning ... best cheapest option is what I'm aiming at.. if I downgrade to 19" plus tyres = $$$ compare to just changing the tyres.. The tyres was a Jax's special... I should have done more research before trusting my tyre guy ... Other high performance cars have 20" as factory option ... of course they run better rubber.. so.. how would that differ .. in regards to your comments about going down to 18/19s if you are handling focussed? -
Handling Characteristics Of The V Coupe?
rs88 replied to rs88's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Thanks Guys.. only way to find out if my V has VLSD is to jack it up. Looks like I should get better tyres. I'm so used to 17"s with Goodyear F1 with my old Maxima/Subarus.. and the V's handling is shocking .. I initially thought the ATRs was decent .. not great or good.. but decent.. If I persist with 20"s.. what tyres suggestions? Falken Fk452s? Kumko Ku13 or others? -
Handling Characteristics Of The V Coupe?
rs88 replied to rs88's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Thanks Locky. I forgot about the correctly profiled tyres doesn't change the contact area. Can anyone shed some light on VLSD? I'm trying to figure out if my auto 2003 V has it. Other than the orange stitching on the steering wheel, I have no other way to tell visually. I read with VLSD, both rears would spin? W/o VLSD .. only the right will? -

Thanks Guys... Looks like I'm a noob at this. Only starting to learn about performance/handling .. Hypothetical situation ... Same Good Tyres all round.. which one better? 20" has more surface contact = more traction Vs more bounce/compression with 19" sidewall... ? -

Hmm.. you got me thinking Seano350GT .. its a 03 V35 with orange stitching on the steering wheel.. which according to research, must be the sports pack. Which also means I should have the VLSD.. ? Sounds like the consensus boils down to Tyres.. I bought the car a year and a bit ago.. and it came with those 20" .. I must say it looks good .. but I'm after handling.. The Stillens are adjustable.. that was why I set to Front Soft and Rear Medium cut down oversteer .. but you guys are suggesting increasing understeer at the same time ..? -
It seems like the V is pretty tail happy... oversteers a lot.. ! I installed Stillen Sway bars over the Christmas period.. took out on a drive.. and it has improved a lot .. less slip.. Front - Soft, Rear - Medium... However.. I'm still not happy or confident.. I always feel like the tail is going to slip driving in full auto going into fast corners (55km/h)..... Engaging the manual mode however brings back the traction.... but.. I shouldn't have to do that.. Setup Front 245/30 R20, Rear 275/30 R20 - ATR Achilles Sport tyres.. still has plenty of tread.. What do you guys think?

What's Your Average Km To A Tank?
rs88 replied to Seano350GT's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Headers and exhaust from xforce, skunk2 plenum spacer, 245/30 R20 front - 275/30 R20 rears, cold air intake... I get about close to 400kms (roughly 14l/100km) when needles hits E ... I think its time for a tune... $$$!!!!! -
Finally! After $420 and $200 in labour .. my V is back on the road!! 2 hours of labour just to get 3 sensors in. Crossing fingers, that should be the fix. Thanks everyone for the assistance!
-
Thanks Scotty. I managed to find both cam and crank sensors for $420. Pricey but I thought best way to go forward is new ones from Nissan autoparts. Thanks for the advice!
-
Did you replace both camshaft & crank position sensors? Is it easy to find the crank position sensor locally? Or has to be sourced from the States? Sorry .. first time with an imported car.
-
I'm in Sydney. In the past I got the following error P0340 - Something about Camshaft position sensor... I googled it.. didn't make much sense.. Sounds like it could be related Scotty?

I've been trying to attach a small video I shot starting the car .. mp4 & mkv .. but keep getting rejected

Hi Guys, I need some help! I've been having problem starting my car for the past few months. Nothing major... but occasionally it refuses to start but only happens when I've stopped for 5/10 mins. No problems with a cold starts in the morning.... I spoke to my mechanic, had the battery load tested (no issues) and he thinks it could possibly be an electrical gremlin. I drove it to the shops tonight. On the way home, the engine just cut off, VDC, Engine Check Light came on. Just like that.. 1st time it happened. Still had electrical power. Turned into a lane and took 3 goes before I can start up the car again. The car felt underpowered .... Where and what should I start troubleshooting?
