Yeah definitely franks. Even though I love the look and performance of my R33. I can't wait to get rid of it and its damn 400R front bar.
-
Yeah stop playing NFS. It's bad for you. I'm serious, it is slowly draining you. I'm about to uninstall it now as it's taken too much of my life that I won't ever get back.

Unichip ECU installed, excellent results. 194rwkws

Paul, when I had my car dyno'd, they told me they had to do it in 3rd or they'd hit the speed limiter. Also, isn't shootout mode really just there for comparisons? If you're just after a tuned car then why would they put it in that mode? I know I personally would like it tuned in shootout mode so I could compare, but some tuners just don't care about that, they just care about the before/after. -
Who cares how torquey they are when they sound the way they do!? Just kidding, in my experience they have always seemed to have a very strong mid range and top end. I never thought too much of their low end, but they had the AWD to compensate for that.
-
Have you considered putting a Stagea engine in? They are available in a 4WD RB25DET configuration.
-
I've just heard a couple of horror stories before, that's all To get to it I have to remove my intercooler piping too (which i will be doing anyway), so I could just do it then.
-
What turbos are on it? Also, what are the biggest low mounts you can fit? GT-RSs? And yeah, that torque curve is REALLY strange. Most RB25 and 26 curves I've seen were flattish and tapering off gently as the revs rise.
-
Thanks for the info Sydneykid. I feel it won't really add much to the value when I sell it, but the cost of paying someone else to take it out is fairly high and would probably be more than it would add to the price. I think if I removed it myself (which I am a little scared of doing), it would be worth it. It's something I'll have to think about.
-
ian, that's definitely a GT-X you've got there. If that GT-X badge posted in this thread earlier is real, then you've just been debadged. Otherwise, they do just look like any other 25GTt. If you go to the Nissan History site, it definitely shows those things I listed as being for a GT-X. I'm 99.9% sure that's what you have.

Jay, I'll be selling the car soon, so I probably won't change the cam gear except to remove it (if it's worth keeping). If I wasn't selling it, I'd definitely do the 3 degree change. I asked them about the dip when I first got it tuned, and they said it's a pretty standard graph for a car without an ECU that can control ignition timing. They said if I want to have it tuned out I'd need something like a Power FC. So I'm just tossing up whether or not I should keep it for my next Skyline (which should be this year).
-
Do you guys have a dyno sheet of your cam gear installs? I had a flat power curve before I put mine on (no dyno sheet to post up of that sorry), but afterwards when I had it set to 4 degrees retarded I got a decent power dip when the NVCS kicks in and a stronger top end. Before the retardation, I couldn't feel the power dip, but now I can. If you look at my torque curve, it's not too impressive at all. Here's my dyno sheet (big file, sorry) - http://members.ozemail.com.au/~caddies/MIC33Rdyno.JPG So basically, I guess what I'm asking is, Were you guys able to tune the dip out with a decent ECU like a Power FC, and is it worth my while to remove the gear from my 33 with a Super AFC (where I feel it hurts the drivability) and put it into my future 34 with a Power FC? I was planning on selling it with the car.

Do you think R34's would sell in Australia?
dojobi replied to gekisouzoku's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Well seeing as we're doing a little correcting, here's a little correction for you hehe The R33s aren't GTS-ts, they're GTS25ts and the R34s are 25GTts -
Thanks for the offer Bob. Unfortunately I'm in Newcastle, and I don't get down to Sydney too often. I might take you up on this offer one day though Cheers, Michael PS I can tell you now, without even having seen your car, that you should have bought a manual

No major spanners thrown in there Both of your sources seem to line up pretty well with what I know except for the dates on yours Rezz. Maybe Nissan didn't want to put up a 3rd series on their history website (history.nissan.co.jp) so just simplified it into 2, because the dates you give do line up with other sites on the web. Nissan claim the GT-V starts in 2000.8 when the rest of the series 2 started, but it clealy doesn't from the other sites. This would explain why that top link I put up noticed there was a 3rd series (or another half series like in the R33s). So maybe there really was a model change at 1999.8? This is all good info for me. I've learnt so much about the R34 4 doors over the last month just reading Japanese sites in Babelfish and talking to you Japanese experts here on the forums

I guess I got a little lost in your first post Thanks again for the info. Actually, I had a look on Nissan's History site and noticed that they dropped the GT-X Turbo from the lineup for the 2nd series anyway. So I'm guaranteed to get one from that period if it's turbo (like you said, the GT-X did continue into the 2nd series).
-
Thanks for the info Lee. Are you sure about the GT-X being only available in auto though? I've seen a few manual versions that I thought were GT-X's, but if what you're saying is right, then they must have just been plain GT turbos. Also, those GTX badges are horrible. How could Nissan put that on the back! If I do get one, then it's being debadged the day I get it.
-
Yeah, I'd like the power and the small extras you get on the series 2, but I can't handle the interior, the front bar and the lip spoiler. I think they were trying to make it a transitional model for the V35.
-
The X turbo is definitely not the model down. Here's the extras that it gets over the plain turbo - Xenon lights standard (option for 25GT) Automatic light system (not available on 25GT) Driver's seat vanity mirror (not available on 25GT) 8 speaker "Holographic" sound system with CD (25GT has 4 speaker cassette with no option to go to the 8 speaker setup)
-
Bob, it's all on that site up the top. You can also go to history.nissan.co.jp and it tells you all the different specs there. I think it was 1998.5 to 2000.8 for series 1 and 2000.8 to 2001.6 for series 2. Or you can just look at the pics Dave posted - they're definitely series 2s. BTW Dave, according to the site above, they changed the turbo in the series 2 - that and an ECU tweak might have accounted for the 343 to 363Nm jump.
-
BTW I was just reading through the site I posted at the top of the thread and it looks like Nissan have done another R33 series 1.5 for the R34. Although it's more of a series 2.5.
-
The GT-X comes in NA 2WD, NA 4WD and 2WD turbo variants for the series 1 R34. They dropped the turbo variant of the GT-X for series 2 and changed the 25GTt a little.
-
I don't have a family, but I'm sick of my bastard friends whinging about the missing rear doors.
-
The R34 looks nice. Can't say I'm too fussed on the rear of the 33. I've never really liked the 33 sedans too much though.
-
Damn, they are some nice cars. Seeing these just confirms that I'll get a 4 door over a 2 door.
-
Thanks, Dave It certainly does look like it's a custom job. In fact, the 25GTt badge is down at the bottom. So I guess if that car is a GT-X Turbo, then that pic confirms that they come with the standard 25GTt badge. That makes my job a little harder to spot a GT-X to buy.
