We should ask some of the Japanese R33 owners what happens when they open the fuel cap.
Thanx Sewid, practical advice.
I did not realise how popular this thread would become, thanx everyone!!

Hey i agree with you which is why I changed my mind.
Ace!

Man all the kids are out today.
This place is feeling like the Fast Fours forums more and more every day.
You do infact make a very good point SEWID.
There are definate 'sections' to the way this site works. But I'm wondering if someone who is new to SKYLINES, will then be equally as new to how this forum, or any forum works. I'd like to believe that not only is this site good for our 'general knowledge', but equally as good for making a friend or two along the way (?). The Kids and I will attempt to make an effort to utilise the forums the way you want us to. But my concern is that we'll lose new members if they feel like they're being treated in a 'patronising' and 'insignificant' way.
This is just the way I feel at the moment......no, infact it is the way I feel......full stop.
To all new members, and I am sort of one of them, have fun, enjoy your ace cars, stay safe....and if I can help you at all.......ace!
Put your questions forward any way you can, in any place you can, and I hope you get da ansa yo lookin 4 !!

I'm not sure mate. Call up ur mechanic... he'll be able to point u in the right direction of what to use... but make sure it has actually come loose
WILL DO, ta.

On mine the actual metal part it screws into had come loose from its surrounding just slighty... I had someone glue it up and all fixed
Special Glue Used DAN ?

OK well I think i have the answer. My car leaks out vapour and does no have the schweppes pshhhhhh sound. But I looked at my mates cap which works properly and the difference was a real thin rubber ring which I remember taking off the fuel cap cause it had already half fallen off when i first bought the car.
thanx CR33
Do u think that pressure, or lack there of, can create performance problems in the fuel delivery department, or compromise safety at all?
-
Yeh tell me about it aye........some ppl gotta screw thier head on strait yeh.....firstly......it would have been much quicker to just name the part number "sewid".....thats if u know it.......and secondly i was askin for some info regarding the service not a useless post stating useless comments with some serious attitude!!!!! BTW..who gives a S*#T about the forum....it does say GENERAL DISCUSSION if in not wrong SEWID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks.........for nuthin dude.........!!!
To mark......thanks mate......it did help, i was thinkin it was the Z145A...
Cheers!!!!!!
always nice if u can help a fellow SKLINER..!! thanx friend

it's not the actual plastic cap, but the hunk of metal the cap srews into, was not sealed when it was changed over at compliance...
u have to get one the right size, and then seal it somehow... dont use silicone though.
AH HAH!!!..........now that u mention it Z, my filler spout does look new (and dodgy) and aftermarket.
..........mmmmmmmmmmmm
WOT 2 DO ???????
Thanx sooo much Zahos!!
Keep em coming in everyone!!!!!!!!! this is interesting stuff...starting to make sense a little....

All Nissan fuel caps are (should?) be the same. Hence you can buy a "Nismo" branded fuel cap and it will fit on any Nissan.
This also makes mass production of the part cheaper which makes sense.
My cap does not make a pressure release type noise and I do not smell any fuel vapour inside the car.
Thanx SEWID...
Production technique Seems Logical, inconsistency in other's standard fuel cap's isn't.

Hi All, Im doing a minor service for my skyline and as its the first one, im not too sure on which parts to get.......so could u guys gimme some part numbers for
oil filter, fuel filter, COOLANT, and the best oil....ive read in other threads that the motul 4100 turbolite is probably the top for oils for the skyline.....
Also reagrding the air filter....ive got that K&N washable one and the filter service kit for that is like 28 bucks so i just wanted to know if there was another way to clean it???
any help, much appreciated!!
Cheers!!!!
Cheers Prakesh,
Ok...I suppose it would be faster for me to tell u what oil filter to use rather than telling you that it's the wrong Forum.........no offence SEWID.
I did my oil last nite.
Used Cooper (blue part No. 1010) Z145A@ $9.00
Helix Ultra Shell @$49.95
Nulon E20 (super slippery) additive @ $12.95 (I've always used this stuff)
If that part helps!!!??
Mark.

mine always has the pssshh noise.
Are we talking about the same 'pshhhhh' sound J2000?
Coming from the cap?
Thanx mate.
-
please keep responses coming....I need a definate answer for this one...I'm loosing brain cells thru the fumes!! I'm sure it's got something to do with the cap, and maybe 'blow-back'.
thanx!!
-
mine is the same, the r33 cap on my car has holes on it if you detatch the cap part from the screw in part...(lol hard to explain) There are holes in the screw in part which i imagine vent out pressure, why I dont know, you can buy new ones from workshops or websites though and im sure it will fix your problem.
Jimbo seems to have the right noise... I know my cap works on the S13 Silvia, but not the other way around. (by working I actually mean making the pressure noise on unscrewing)
Surely there must be some consistancy here?
Thanx 33NIZ,
Mark

Hi,
STANDARD FUEL CAPS. I don't think mine is the right one. Even though it says Nissan on it, it doesn't seem to keep pressure in the tank at all.
I have determined this from not hearing any 'pshhhhhhhhhh..' sound when I undo the cap. I swapped over the cap with my mum's S13 Silvia, and still no 'built-up-pressure' sound at the petrol station.
Also, if the conditions are 'right', I can see that hazy petrol 'vapour' pouring from the fuel flap, and sometimes the smell inside the cabin is quite bad, (girlfriend hates it...I do too). I am wondering if this could be causing the smell inside my car. All else looks OK, no leaks..etc. Cars performance seems ok (seems!!!).
I know the car has been involved in a 'rear' accident in Japan. (How bad? ...Don't know)
Is there an 'identifier' on the cap that clearly states it to be R33 specific?
Thanks,
Mark.

Hi Skliner's,
Every R33 owner I have spoken to about their car always seem to have a deep feeling of 'affection' for their car,....more so, I believe, than many other owners of 'other' types of cars. Being in the lucky position of owning a beautiful white 95 GTST, I Know first hand why we feel this way.
On the other side of this, is there anyone who feels that the R33 has any design faults, things you don't like, stuff you'd get changed in a heart-beat, things that 'pi5s you off'. Not just mechanicals (if any), but interior, exterior, quality of systems, ride quality (before and after you modded it) etc.
I would like any comments on what YOU FEEL about YOUR R33.
I don't know too much about the fantastic R32, because I don't own one..but pls feel free to comment aswell,.....if you like!!

Discussed to death this one, put the restrictor back on, it's there for a good reason in this case.
Ok!
Thanx sewid,
Mark

" am I doing anything that could be potentially bad 4 da WasteGate/Turbine?"
The sort of question it's good to ask befor rather than after
Well you've found out what it does, it's ok to leave it out or you can put it back in if you don't like the result
Thanks 51,
U R quite right there 51, but sometimes, if u r 'attuned' to mechanics, and not totally silly, maybe the 'suck it and see' concept can work. I was thinking more long term problems that may arrise.....Know of any?
Thanx 4 the response 51. RESPEC!

If you've got a R33 GTS-t, then removing the brass restrictor may increase spoolup time (hence why you've noticed that it's more linear).
It reduces the amount of flow(??) to the wastegate, so the wastage doesn't creep open as much during spoolup.
But if you've got a R33 GTR, then it works differently. Removing the brass restrictor in a GTR will see a boost increase to around 14psi.

WOW! Thankyou J,
seems very reasonable, I may stick it back in tonite...see wot happens.

check all of your rubber induction hoses and clamps....these were loose/leaky on mine delivering similar results.
