  1. ive pyroed heaps of diesels and the difference from pre turbo to outlet temps is usually around 100'c, and 550 is pretty normal at the turbine outlet, ive seen them as high as 900, very dangerous then, and people wonder why they crack heads all the time, all the toyota 2LT owners out there will know what im talking about, usually over fuelling massively.
  2. the only time i would use plasti gauge is if i was doin bearings in place and couldnt really get a micrometer in there, im sure most reconditioners would cringe at its use, i agree measure twice cut once but measure with the right tools. Also the way they mount and measure with that digital bore gauge is not that accurate, i would use an inner mic and measure that with the outer mic that id used to measure the journal so your taking all your sizes off the one tool.
  3. Big deal! doesnt look any different to the work any decent reconditioner would do. Why they would mount and measure and then plasti gauge i dont know.
  4. use a hot spanner and get the thing red hot, then use a puller. Failing that if u dont mind taking the crank out, the take the thrusts out and move the crank as far forward as possible, then cut the dowels on the pump housing and remove the lot in one hit, then take it to someone with a press.
  5. double check inlet cam timing as it will affect idle vacumme, also retarded spark timing can have an affect. whats your idle speed like, is it fast? if so then a air leak is possible but unlikely, maybe PCV.
  6. you cant hone a bore properly with a ball hone, they wont break the glaze, you need a decent fixed hone with some 500 grade stones, possibly followed by finishing stones to plattoe hone the pattern. I would have done a wet comp test to see if that made a big difference to your low cylinder that way you rule out valves, is your inlet cam timing correct as well cause that will bleed off compression and make them low overall.
  7. ive seen heaps of cracked rbs, usually small hailine cracks btween water galleries, they show up after we surface them they dont really cause a problem, thats the only cracks ive seen in them
  8. surely if you put gtr cams onto hydrolic buckets your seat to seat timing would be increased to the point that idle quality will suffer, unless you plan on letting the buckets pump up and running a lash setting that match the gtr cams, 18 thou or something like that.
  9. if youve adjusted the throttle stop you will have altered the tps voltage, set the throttle stop so the butterfly is completely shut, and make sure the idle contacts in the tps are goin shut at idle. Adjust idle speed with idle air control bypass screw.
