  1. Hey, Thanks man, that's kinda what i was looking for.... The whole idea looked a bit awkward, but i thought if it could hold the power it might have been worth tooling around with a bit. Looks like its back to the drawing board... Trying to find a decent transaxle without paying for porsche is a pain in the ass...
  2. I used to come here all the time, under a different name.. I've owned 31's, I've owned a 32, I've owned a 33... And yes, now I own an Integra... Have you decided I'm stupid simply because I drive a Honda... Yes, it would be a lot of weight (and length) behind the rear axle.. Hence my asking the question, so I know whether its worth trying to fabricate a better solution based on that gearbox... And yes, everyone does audi/porsche solutions... they've been done to death... Thanks so much for your help...
  3. Now i remember what these forums are like.... Let me clear it up... RB25, + GTR or GTS4 gearbox, GTR or GTS4 sump and transfer casing. Power transmitted through the transfer casing instead of the rear output. And yes, I'm aware that the gearbox goes behind the engine... and then has a shaft forward again to the transfer case. So, not a fundamentally broken idea.. hell, if factory five can do exactly the same thing with a wrx driveline (Yes I know its less complex... but that's what fabrication is all about) in their 818 kit car, i don't see why it couldn't be done similarly with a GTR/GTS4 driveline... my only question was on strength.. not on what you think of my idea...
  4. GTR transfer casing questions So, I have the weirdest question ever asked... Does anyone know enough about the GTR transfer casing, to know, whether it could handle over 300HP, using only the front wheel setup ... and can the rear drive be disabled somehow? I ask, because i'm looking for something to use for a mid/rear engine setup (custom chassis) and would prefer not to use a wrx or volkswagen/audi driveline... any answers? or thoughts?
  5. Ok, the new engine has been delivered, and prep work on it has started. Cam covers have come off in favour of a set painted in super clear red. Oil pump has come off to do the front seal. Turbo has been swapped out for the one from the previous engine as it has been rebuilt. All the old turbo guards etc have come off and been cleaned up ready to paint. The old intake manifold and plenum has been prepped and painted. The new 18 hose kit has arrived. The new red alloy pulleys have arrived. Now Pics - cos it did happen... Pre gerni cleanup. Brass brush on the manifold Some paint. Shiny exhaust manifold guards. (after prep) New engine. New engine getting naked. mmmm, oil! New Oil pump gasket coming this week, pulleys to be installed, painting to be completed, and hoses to be fitted this weekend... Hopefully she'll be ready to install on Sunday!
  6. You know you're a little bit obsessed with your car when you stalk the tracking website for your new radiator hoses and get OVERLY excited to see that they're FINALLY with a courier to be delivered: Date/Time Activity Location 23/11/12 07:03 Onboard with driver BRISBANE CITY QLD
  7. Thats the plan... Import engine being delivered tomorrow. Waiting for a new red hose kit, and lightweight pulleys to be delivered. New timing kit has arrived, new nismo engine mounts, and a new 56mm core aluminium radiator already delivered... So we have stuff in play.... This weekend will be all about prepping the engine for fitment and painting the accessories etc...
  8. Well, the build now begins. Start with one nice R33 that has been a little mistreated, and return it to it's former glory... Current parts list: Bilstein shocks (custom valved) DBA Slotted dimpled Rotors all round QFM Pads Turbosmart EBC Turbosmart blowoff valve ECU Link Pioneer Head unit with Screen Custom paint inside. Advan tyres The Machine - The damage - The leftovers - The work so far - Mouldy seats had to come out ... Gerni plus seat == clean.. Stay Tuned... New motor going in soon... And some dressing up being done first...
  9. Yeah, This is the GF's R33/ Our toy... I have a 92 Prelude, and she has an 06' Tiida, plus, we're in the process of rebuilding the 2003 ZZR 250 i bought her for her birthday... So, we have plenty of wheels... lol. But, we don't want to have the R33 sitting for too long, so i'm making sure I do the research before we commit to what do to get it going again. Actually haven't picked up the R33 yet, it gets delivered mid next month, so we have some time to work it all out.
  10. Hey Guys, Looking at going the 25/30 route at the moment. Just need to work out a few more details. So for now, it's a slow slog through the RB30DET forum to get my questions answered... Either way, there will be some parts for sale before this project is over
  11. Hey m.j.h, From what i understand, the car had been off the road for a year. The owner installed a new FMIC, and started driving it. One day it overheated, started running really rough... Dropped the oil, and it was full of water. The head has been checked, and no problems found. The headgasket didn't show any signs of damage, or water or oil. The turbo has been checked, and seems to be fine. If the head and headgasket come back fine, i'm wondering if the block is ok... maybe a cracked water gallery or something? Pricing up replacement engines at the moment, considering just throwing a low k import in it, while I get the old block and head crack tested, then put it on an engine stand.
  12. Hey, I'm starting to think i either asked something stupid, asked it in the wrong place, or somehow in my searching the forums, didn't see an identical thread? Is this the case? or is it simply a case of no-one having anything useful to say? Cheers, Jeff
  13. Hey Guys, About to embark on a rebuild of an RB25DET, and have some questions. To get the basic stuff out of the way : Planning a basically stock build. The motor doesn't have a tonne of k's on it, and suffered a boost related issue which was thought to be a head gasket or head problem. Neither of these things proved to be the issue (Issue still not found). The plan is to build it to stock spec, and consider more power later. Does anyone have a particular opinion on Brands for Rings, bearings, gaskets. Does anyone know a good place to get these items in Brisbane? I trust Brisbane Turbo and Tuning, but have been out of the scene for long enough to have forgotten who else is around. Does anyone have experience with building the RB25DET, that might point out an possible traps or tricks i should know about? I'm planning to do rings, bearings, VRS kit (Since the head is already stripped). Anything else that would want doing in one of these? I've rebuilt an engine before, but not one of these, so I'm open to all the suggestions and advice you can throw at me. Thanks in advance. Jeff

Hey Guys, Jeff here.... + g/f Sam We've just organised to pickup an R33 next month. It's been sitting for a few years, with it's head off after an engine failure. We're in spring hill, and will start posting a bit once the rebuild starts. I used to be a member here many years ago when i had my R32GTsT - with the plate GRY32, so it will be nice to catch up with those of you who i remember, Hope to see you all around the place.
