I too am going to put 6x9's in my R33, as I don't believe in paying for stuff that's really not that hard to do, even if you don't have a clue, like me:) Do you really have to make a whole new parcel shelf though? I took everything out yesterday, as I wanted to get rid of the navigation system. I was gonna trace out the speaker spacers onto some mdf, punch and fit in my 6x9's then drill the 3 holes to hold it onto the shelf. I'm not sure if everyone's covers are the same, but mine are like massive! The only thing I'll be paying for is for some hippy at Mitre10 to cut out my mdf.

lol yeah you must be a short ass its not hard to reverse.... but yeah 6x9's or splits arn't hard to fit, just got to give it a go, however if its your first go at it and you feel like your going to make a mess of it (don't want that in a skyline :D) then practice in a bomb or get your mate to give you a hand....

Got a PM re this so thought I would add some details.

Did the installation myself (after an expert reckoned that it couldn't be done). The speakers aren't any special slim line types or anything, they are Sony Xplod 6x9s from our old R31. Definitely need an assistant, I thankfully had my son for the in close work etc.

1. Get at the shelf from inside the boot and mark out the "D" shape in the steel body.

2. Take out the back seat and the parcel shelf and cut this "D" out of the board with whatever you have.

3. Position the speakers on a "best fit" angle and mark out any extra bits of the board that you need to cut out for the speaker basket to fit neatly. Take a little time here to get the angles the same and sit them in position regularly etc.

4. With the speakers in position on the board you can mark and drill where your screws/fasteners are going. Then you can mount the speakers to the board.

5. Replace the shelf with speakers attached making sure that you get the clips to go into the body where they should. Also a good idea to dampen under the screws so that there is no vibration/rattling.

6. Replace the seat (easier said than done) and hook the speakers up to the wiring (that you have prepared earlier).

Don't think I missed anything. It is a job well worth doing but it is fiddly (some would say a pain in the arrhse.

you dont have to cut the steel. You have to custom make spacers 19mm and then put them under the parcel shelf. Then cut new holes in the parcel shelf. You will need new carpet for it. I done it and my shelf looks original with 6 X 9 speakers installed.

The speakers have to go 45 degrees though. Otherwise you will be cutting metal.

Hey guys, had a crack at this on the weekend and hit a snag. I actually made 3 cut-outs of the original speaker spacer using 19mm mdf - i figured if you use 19mm then put your speaker on top, this will still fit under the standard speaker covers. I then got in the boot and traced out the size of the parcel tray hole in which the magnet will go through. Cut out the hole in my speaker spacer, and thought cool, I'll just mount the speaker in, screw it into the parcel tray and there you go. Unfortunately the 6x9's body didn't quite fit in the spacer, so I couldn't fit these onto the spacer (magnet fitted, body didn't). I dunno if this is due to my 6x9's being an odd shaped, might checkout some other brands. Anyone know if I'm doing this correctly??? Anyone suggest a quality set of 6x9's that don't have a wide body, but more or less come in on a constant angle?

    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
    • You can use your VIN to look up the factory part number somewhere like amayama, and then look to order new if necessary. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan Depending on price you might want to rebuild instead. @GTSBoy I had an interesting insight into US market parts when the Titan rear calipers were sticking. New calipers were dirt cheap, about 20% more than a rebuild kit....they are just considered throw away maintenance items

    • Lots of votes for driving onto a plank first; that is the quickest way I've found, 25mm is enough for my case but that will vary by car It also depends where you are going for. On the 32 I can get to the rear diff with my floor jack if I do that end first, and get it up on stands. Then I lift the front from either front tow hook as high as needed, also onto stands. Sometimes I need a small lift on the other tow hook to get it level enough If I do the front first I can't get to the rear diff because of the angle of the car Other options are getting to the front mount of the rear subframe from in front of the wheel (if only lifting one side, or just do both which is a bit of a pain compared to one lift from the diff), or also the gearbox cross member mount on the driver's side if you are  just trying to lift the driver's side.
