hi everyone...i was driving to work and had to go into an RBT located on old northern rd (i think)...infront of Oak Hill College...hills area

the cop asks me to show him my engineers certificate....which i dont have...so he makes me open my bonnet

things he said were illegal

1) Pod

2) Frontmount

3) Atmo Bov

4) Turboback exhaust

5) Bodykit...including front bar, rear bar, skirts and gtr wing..He said "If its made out of FIBREGLASS it's illegal"

6) Numberplate on the side of front bar

7) Bride bucket seat and rails

then he said

ur P-plates cant be seen through ur 35% tint because its too dark (which is legal) and must relocated them

he then comes back and says ur car isnt registered in the RTA database

he says im giving u a caution and take ur car to the RTA to fix it

Question

1) my car isnt showing up in the RTA database..can i get defected?

2) Becasue i got a caution...will the cops know i've already been told and defect me the next time or let me off?

3) What does caution mean? ie. first time offence?

stay the hell away from castle hill.. I've lost my licence and defected twice on that road infront of my school (oakhill college)... dude see if you know a dodgey mechanic to clear your defects and then stay out of high heat areas like castle hill, liverpool and the city..

yehh hills area is getting baddd

ive neva been pulled over in the city

hhmm...........

i got done on new years day :(

near st marys

the thing that realy sh!t me was wat the cop said.

drove past him, he done a u turn and followed me for 20m then pulled me over for rbt, since i was under the limit he started looking at the car, wheels, exhaust, kit, tint, steering wheel

then the usual

pop the bonnet...

these are his words exactly after checking every part of the car

"since i pulled you over im gonna have to do something, i cant just let you go"

got defected for pod and exhaust

wat a way to start the new year

dirty cocksuka !

Hi, Just a question... so the cops usually do RBT's around Oakhill...

Where else in the Castle hill area do they usually have RBT's?

Just to know which streets to stay clear from...

stay away from oakhill college and off showground road (at night)

theres a defect station near it...behind the council

when u get pulled over there the cops make u follow them to the defect station

also does anyone know the legalality regarding rims..coz i just got new rims be havent put them on

like...1" or 2" larger than stock or has to be the same rolling diameter?

how wide?..if it doesnt go out further than the gaurds

and the clearance level from the wheel arc and tyre..wat distance?

OK, my understanding is this:

- the new wheel and tyre combination must NOT have a rolling diameter greater than 15mm, but obviously if you go from 16's to 20's then you're probably more likely to get problems;

- I think it's a TOTAL increase in track of 1" (or 26mm), so you can get wheels 1" wider on each side. If you've got the correct offset, it would mean that 0.5" would sit on each side of the centreline of each of the new wheels, so effectively that covers your TOTAL increase in track width. (I hope you can understand this - it makes sense in my head...)

- your wheels and tyres should NOT go out past the width of the gaurds, and the clearance between the wheel arch and wheels/tyres should be fine if you've chosen the correct width and offset to upgrade to. What you should worry more about is the height of the car off the ground AT ALL POINTS (chassis, crossmembers, suspension bits, exhaust, etc.). The minimum ground clearance is 100mm, any lower and you're looking at a defect.

ONCE AGAIN, DON'T TAKE THIS AS THE BIBLE, CHECK THE RTA WEBSITE AND READ IT FOR YOURSELF. Also, remember that some people (whether it's the RTA, the cops or whoever) may have a different interpretation of what the rules actually mean - it'll be your word against theirs if you have any problems...

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
