Hi!

Just wondered if anyone knows of someone I could call to check a car out for me? Its at a dealership in Brisbane, and everyone seems to need a few days notice. Have called RACQ and my usual guy who does roadworthys etc - but they cant help me out untill Monday.

Sooooooooo Im hoping can anyone recommend someone for me to call out for tomorrow?

Thanks!!

check it out as in mechanically??.... do it yourself champ.... first thing is check for smoke..... get them to start it up for 5 minutes... pop the bonnet listen for any suspicious noises... and put a 20 cent coin on the rocker cover... if the coin stays there its good:).... and once its warm tell them to punch the throttle up to 4 grand while u stand behind the exhaust.. look for smoke. then check engine bay and under carrage intensly for leaks of any sort... check tires for remaining tread and definatly check oil.

when test driving get a feal for the gearbox if manual to see if there is much meat left on the synchros.... maybe shift faster than usual once or twice throught 1st second and third and see if there are any clunks or grinds... next in a quiet back street stab the brakes fairly hard to a stand still to see if they are firm and solid....

im sure there is lots other people can add but these are major points covered

good luck

Thanks mate - yup - mechanically is what I meant. I couldnt take hubby with me as he was busy elsewhere and my knowledge is limited to what it looks like LOL

Took it for a test drive today and the brakes feel good, clutch feels good. I used to have a manual EXA which is my only comparison.

Have left a $200 deposit and meant to pick it up tomorrow so will definitely use your tips!

Cheers, Manda

Hey Manda

Also check all fluids. They must not be dirty and contaminated. Ask them to show you brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, oil and perhaps transmission fluid. Dirty or contaminated means trouble or poor maintenance. Ask if 100 000 service was done if applicable (this can be expensive). Ask if radiator was repaired or replaced. Check general condition of paint work , joints, door hinges etc.

TAKE YOUR TIME! I rushed through mine because i was mega excited. Had to spend $2000 to get up to standard.

Good luck, How exciting!

^^^^^ what iceberg said

i did all the checks all fluids all the rest... and poor maintenance was the case.. 3,500 to get it up to scratch... but the fact motor idled dead quiet no smoke, lining up km's (not rewound) and stuffed clutch i still bought it and did an extreme 100'000 km survice even though it had only done 80'000 km... plus upgrades :P its been perfect ever since plus it only came into australia 7 months ago

just out of curiosity what are you buying?

Will do!! Ta for that.

Yeah it is *very* exciting. First Skyline, been looking for ages.

Send an email to Dan from Elite Racing Developments, email is [email protected] - he's very thorough and knows his stuff, but is quite busy so no guarantees that he'll be available.

His name on these forums is 3lit3 32.

    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
    • Well the articals keep saying a Q50s (Skyline in Japan) with a new Manual gearbox. I like the talk about the new looks with the round tail lights. I hope they bring back the retro look like they did with the Z
