Hey guys, im having a real deliema, i just bought some of this Redline shockproof 80w90 the red stuff. Now i have chucked it in the diff and gearbox.

The problem im having is that it still feels like my gearbox is really tight. As in getting the gears in. Sometimes they feel like they are crunching to get in.

What do you recommend for gearbox??? or should i stick with this stuff?

Also I can really smell this stuff its really strong inside the car. is that normal??

Also its for my 34gtt. and i also have a short shifter.

Cheers.

smell inside the car is not normal.. maybe you dropped some on ur exhaust? go wash it out at the carwash...

with the oil.. give it about 200-300kms.

if it is still notchy then there is an additive called Nulon G70 gear treatment...

if its compatible with your oil then you can give that a shot.

i just did a full service on mine and my gears felt notchy for about 2 days.. so drive gentally.. its now smooth and soft..

i guess it takes a while for the old crap to come off the gears..

hope that helps buddy.

hey mate, yeah i have driven about 400km now. with the new stuff in. When ever I give it hard shifting or boot it, it is a really really strong smell in the cabin 100% its coming from the gearbox and up through to the cabin.

  • 1 month later...

Firstly check the plugs are in & sufficiently tightened but not overtightened as they are a tapered thread, I have just done this service myself and used thread tape when replacing the bungs, as a matter of interest to any who read this thread I have used Penrite SIN 75w-90 in my box(RB20DET) and noticed an immediate difference in gear changes(being smoother) and a lowering of transmission noise inside the car. I will be trying the lightweight shockproof next to compare so I will post those results when that happens. I will be doing Diff change 2mrw and fitting large swaybars at the same time so will keep you all posted

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
