I was wondering if i replaced the intake manifold of my RB25DE with a RB25DET manifold and got a turbo would my car run turbo???If so would the headers on my exaust work???or would i even be able 2 find headers for mine that can handle a turbo? plz help any info will do plz....

Mate there's a bit more to it than that.

I think it would be a cheaper option to replace the current motor with a det one. You should be able to get some money back if you trade yours in too.

Easy answer is sell your car and buy a turbo model. Much less trouble, effort and better results.

Otheriwse you will need to get :

turbo

exhaust manifold

new dump/front pipe setup

intake piping

intercooler piping and cooler itself

new ecu (to run th thing)

plus a handful of other things i cant remember off the top of my head.

You will be limted in the boost you run due to the high compression of the non turbo motor. Plus other things like brakes, clutch, etc will not be up the task of sufficiently handling the new power.

i did on R32 RB25DE.

it's pretty easy and in my opinion it works out cheaper than getting either factory turbo or swap for DET motor (well, it did for me - check your local market rates).

i don't think 25DE s worth much money, except for the head, apparently ppl use em a lot for RB30DET conversion.

there is a problem of legality of doing it, check your local rules and regulations first.

No idea on R34 but, apparently R33 ecu can't be chipped, but I think you can use a chipped R32 ecu to suit your set up. Also, not sure other RB25DE has provisions for oil/water line on the block. Mine did but I also talked to someone else who did it, he didnt have them on the block (I think it was off Stagea)

if you can get the whole setup off someone upgrading to a bigger turbo, it makes your life a lot easier than trying to chase this and that all over the place (which I ended up doing).

here are my parts list (most are covered by stolen_s15)

  • turbo (+ water and oil line + gaskets)
  • exhaust manifold (+ gaskets)
  • dump pipe
  • front pipe
  • J-pipe and blow off valve
  • intercooler and pipings
  • hoses and fittings for PCV & vacuum lines
  • high flow fuel pump
  • pod filter or turbo airbox (N/A one doesn't line up)
  • some fasteners (unless they come with turbo etc, if you getting a whole kit, they should. I broke two manifold studs but easy to replace em. also needed to buy turbo to manifold nuts. I don't know if it makes difference but if you buy from nissan hella expensive and they needed to get them from japan. I ended up going to a stainless fastener place and got them cheap)

and it pays to check your ignition system - coils and plugs - boost exposes defects that don't show up in N/A motor.

DE+t shaved about 3 seconds off 0-100kph time and 50-70 and 100-120 times (which i think is more practical in everyday sense) are a lot better, so definitely worth it. And this is with 9psi and a generic tune. With dyno/road tune for your specific seup it should be better.

I'm going a little bit further now, with front mount intercooler, 440cc injectors and front facing plenum.

you might want to go front mount and injectors while at it, a little more work and expense but save on tune/chipping later when you do want more out of it.

Oh, you don't need to change intake manifold.

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15  
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
