hi all,

just another quick question as this one has got me stumped.

i have noticed, when i am giving the car abit, sitting up around 6k, full boost, it sounds like there is a small air leak or something aruther, or even i slight scraping noise. it is similar to the noise your hear when your window is down slightly and the air is rushing past, but not so loud. car drives fine, holds boost up high and low and there is no sight of the sound at low rpm.

has anyone had a similar problem and would be able to give me some pointers on wrer to look before i get annoyed and take it to someone to check over.

cheers drew

agree with strik3r BUT maybe just maybe, its getting high knock levels. its not quite the noise you have described but i thought i should mention it just incase. knock sounds like marbles in a milo tin getting shacked around so if thats what your hearing then go straight to a tuner without going over 3k RPM.

marbles in a tin??? more like an electrical type zapping noise..... lol u go get marbles in a tin and tell me if that sounds the same hahaha

could possibly be a very slight boost leak buddy check all ur connections intercooler piping etc....

yeah will do but i didnt thinkit would be a boost leak due to it holds boost strongly, but will certainly check my piping and what not.. and unfortubatly strik3r, im new to owning a turbo cars but i do know a few things about them and its not my induction noise, its much much quiter then that. maybe ill take it to my mechanic and get him to check the knock sensors for me to see if anything is abonormal. add it deffinatly doesnt sound like marbles in a milo tin.

cheers

what sort of intake setup do you have ? Pod or panel filter ? FMIC ? what sort of pipes are you running? all of these things contribute to the sound your intake makes.... soooo it might sound different to others you've heard.. get a mate to record a video on a phone or something if you want us to give you a better guess.

all im running is a HKS muchroom pod, with a front mount with alloy piping. its not a loud sound like the induction noise is, its only very slight and only at high revs as i said and you can only just hear it, but its just enough to get up my nose because i hate having things wrong with my cars, even though they are really mineute,

    • Nice one, I'd argue that the white S1 RS260 is certainly the best looking of the Stageas. And yes, fully agree on the forum situation. It's a bit of a shame, but at least SAU is a good place to be. I found the facebook groups to give me FOMO because people were trying to one-up each other and show off in some way. Feels much more natural here. There are people with seriously nice builds, but I can appreciate it rather than it making me question my life choices. Might be that people are more open with sharing how much work/money/suffering it takes to actually get there.
    • Evening, wanted to pop in and finally register to say hi to everyone here on SAU!   It's been a while since I've been active on a forum, but back in the day I used to be relatively active on ClubLexus and other hobby-related forums. I'm glad to see SAU is still around, since with the advent of Facebook and Discord it seems forums aren't what they once were. As a recent new owner of an S1 260RS Stagea, I've found so many older guides and helpful tips from SAU that I figured I needed to join and say a grave thank you. My recent acquisition has only become legal in the US for the past year, and knowing that similar car enthusiasts from across the pond have already figured out the kinks and tricks to get these 25+ year old cars running well. I look forward to diving into more of the SAU forums as well as hopefully contribute some info myself for future posterity.   As a pic tax, here is one of the few good photos I have of my Stagea. I hope to get way more in the future!
    • Is this where I say "Hey man my airbox cost me horsepower in my Naturally Aspirated Engine"? (I know you need them for legality in NSW)
    • 1.5mm alloy folded up, it will need a tweek, as the angled bend only got to around 45° as that was the max that the break press would get with the other bends, and I needed a fair bit more, but and the alloy is easy to bend too my will by hand once I trim the lower section out I'll Dremel out and form the angle and mounting point on the lower section when time permits  As for the lid, I'm looking at going a "cap", instead of a flat lid to hide the fixtures a bit
