First I Had Pigeons, Now I Have Little Birdies Chirping When Im Slowing Down!

Recommended Posts

ok

changed my thrust bearing around 2 months ago, but recently only when i am SLOWING down, regardless whether the clutch is engaged or not, there is this increasingly loud bird chirping noise...

when i turn left while slowing down the noise gets louder... so im thinking wheel baring? or something else got to do with the suspension?

cars going to pedders tomorrow for a 28 point check, hopefully they can pick it out if not, could it have anything to do with gearbox even though like i said, whether im rolling or de accelerating it still makes the noise..

thanks in advance

usually a geabox noise will change when changing gear or accellerating/decellerating as the rpms in the gearbox constantly change with the gear/engine mix, if itsa constant noise, look at wheels... are your pads getting low?? could be the screamers on your pads. they start to squeak lightly when they are getting low, and scream when they need replacing. just bend them out of the way if you dont want new pads yet.

i just chased this problem up for a mate with a rex, we were chasing suspension noises, tyre noises (he has semi slicks), rubbing noises, and then realised that it was the lhf wheel bearing, it died as the rex has coilovers and semi slicks and he loves smashing round a bouts, putting alot of weight on the lhf. it would only do it when warm, which i thought as we are having hotter days now, that the lhf semi was becoming ultra grippy or worn enough that it was getting sweaty and slipping.. but nah, it was the wheel bearing.

ill sus out the pads but they should be fine.. replaced them not that long ago... out of what you suggested, its most likely wheel bearing..

are they an easy fix? or it something only a suspension joint will do?

    • Hey keep the ideas coming, I'm always keen on projects! But, problem fixed!  I got a cheapie ozito scope from Bunnings and had a good look in and around the bearing and sensor hole. I couldn't see a smoking gun but the bearing looked a bit strange, especially when comparing with a new one. I thought the cover had come off the bearing magnets.  Sorry for pics of a screen, I didn't have an SD card.     Good thing I had the old one to inspect. So, given I'm like a pit crew with wheel bearings and luckily I had a spare bearing because I f**ked up my parts order, I decided to just smash it out. Got the old one out in about an hour. So much easier when the parts haven't had a chance to rust together yet. 😂 And, well, found the problem.    In the second pic at about the 8 o'clock position, you'll see what I think is the tip of the old sensor.  The new sensor has definitely been rubbing but it's all intact, just a little shiny so I'm hoping it's fine.  The car brakes perfectly now and no errors.  I think the job took about 2.5h in the end. 👍🏻 I really appreciate the help in here as usual. Thanks guys.
    • I was only looking because I saw some drops on the ground but it wasn't alot. Recently had it serviced will ask the mech to confirm. Find it strange that it looks standard though, can see in another photo of a random box
