its not theory ruby, its tried and true. i know of atleast 5-6 examples of it, as im sure others do too

That sucks Damo. I know you got that car and went about righting a few wrongs with it. I'm not saying all cops are saints, but they aren't all bad either. I've encountered a bad cop myself once. Bike got defected, I knew it was defectable, didn't argue that point, but it was the way he went about it. Still, I've had far more good experiences than not, yesterday was a good example.

Did you get the missus's car sorted?

Yeah 2000 dollars later, can sort my car out now,and yeah not saying cops are out to get most of us,its the age old argument most of the time "attrack attention and you get attention".

attest to that.

I feel there may have been a different outcome if it were a skyline cruise too as the stags are fairly inconspicuous as most of their owners will attest... or has this now changed too??

in a weeks time my Rb25 RS4 will be probably* the most mod'd S1 RS4 stag here in SA. everything bar bottom end will have been upgraded. keep it looking stock and drive like you are 100% switched on, and you have no issues. this I guarantee, fk not even a breatho in near a decade!!!!!!!!!!

if you're in a meeting point with 30 other cars, and the law is there thru invite or just good ol police work initiation (lol good stuff lads in blu; just keep the phsyco's off the footpath right? ta.), any shit can go down, depending on how others handle it and how they present themselves. that goes for one exuberant corner taken far too fast, or a defect blitz in a carpark.

So were they notified of the cruise yesterday or they read the forums and simply turned up?

Curious as Kellie's new cruise thread states she will be working with Neil and he will be at all future cruises. So obviously Kellie will be notifying Neil of future events.

Ill share something quickly.

last time I had to go to the cop shop I was checked of. however the officer brang out a few more cops to show them what I had modded, showed them where to look etc.

has anyone thought they are just looking for present vehicles to do alittle research on. get some tips, gain some knowledge.

Cubes.. a marked cop car drove by and he called it in to the other cop , that's when he came down. they were not notified of the cruise happening yesterday.

So was he then invited to this weeks cruise?

Kellie, myself and Nene have advised the police they will continue to be notified of cruises so we can maintain that good report card. We have Neil's business card and any trouble will be reported immediately. They have asked for our cooperation and in return we will be treated fairly. The police have asked us of who we think are the trouble makers and a certain breed has been named already, so it won't be repeated here (mostly unwelcomed tag-alongs). We have explained to the police that meet points are not disclosed due to unwanted tag-alongs such as the commonwhore club, but we will disclose cruises to police in future. Also, misbehaving and hoon driving will see you reported to the police ... we do that to protect the others attending the cruises. There is no point ruining it for everyone. How would you feel if the police picked on you due to another drivers hoon behaviour? Do we have 30+ cars checked over by police, or do we report that 1 driver who's causing the problems? We are not commonwhore drivers or ns.com

Make no mistakes. The WRX fatality has the police lifting their game on hoons. Sure, we can argue we are not hoons etc, but its difficult to differentiate thru all the different community of drivers/clubs on the road, so they are casting their net far and wide and filtering out bad behaviours and attitudes first. Be polite and be honest ... and you may just be surprised. We certainly were yesterday.

[end brown nosing]

Mods feel free to lock this thread if it gets out of hand ... but I'm hoping it will have a positive effect on SAU attitude here.

WTF!

Lol, pre-arranged pre-cruise police scrutineering...how special will that be.

Lmao S.A

its not theory ruby, its tried and true. i know of atleast 5-6 examples of it, as im sure others do too

... and I know 5-6 examples personally where the cops didn't nick me for mods.

but one single question comes to mind. 'why pop the bonnets' ? if they arent defecting people ?

I would have thought the answer was obvious: to show some cooperation to avoid being defected.

... and I know 5-6 examples personally where the cops didn't nick me for mods.

the volvo wagon factor plays a massive part in this :(

anyways mate im not going to argue the toss, i have my opinions on the matter and i'll stick to them. best of luck with getting into bed with the police :P

My question is has SAU/SA been backed in to a corner where future 'regular' cruises have no option other to notify the police or fear if the police do find out the meet spot every one is pretty much a goner?

the answer to your question lies in post #83 & #84 of this thread

police notification

My mate drove around for over a year with a old school 1984 Cressida with a 4.5" straight through exhaust with no mufflers, no cat, no nothing. Sounded like a beast but backfired constantly due to a hole in the manifold.

Got pulled over many, many times. Pulled into defect stations, etc. Never got defected. Why? Because it looks like a grandpa car. It had blinds on the rear window. Cops had no idea what it was, so they left it alone.

    • This sounds like a perfect excuse to install a Haltech R3.
    • I do believe from context he is talking about a S0/S1 R33 RB25 with associated ECU and Wiring for that, and a manual gearbox into a R34 N/A Auto. I don't have the knowledge of all the pinouts and such but my gut feeling from doing my own conversion is to use as much of the R33 stuff that you can. The "car" wiring is quite seperate from the "Engine" wiring when all things are considered. The only things to truly consider 99% of the time is the cluster, reverse lights and potentially disabling the 'not in P/N' immobilizer circuit.
    • A realistic expectattion of how long it has to last also comes down to.... when do you think you will be banned from registering and driving old petrol powered shitters? It's 27 years since that thing was built. It probably rusted out 15 years ago. It was probably repaired and looked OK for another 10. If you do a similarish bodge job now, or perhaps slightly better with some actual rust conversion and glassing, then.... get another 10-15 years out of it, after which you'll only be permitted by the CCP to drive electric cars manufactured in their Shenzen zone anyway.
    • Let me assume that the concern over a manual ECU is that the NeoDET that you have was an auto and has an auto ECU. That ECU will not be a problem, but you WILL have to Nistune it. And you would have to Nistune it even if you had a manual ECU, because the turbo ECUs will shit the bed if they do not have all the things that they were told they have to have, to be happy. The big one being the TCS CU, which you won't have in your car. Anyway, with an auto ECU (which I have running my originally auto NeoDET in an R32) Nistune allows you to put in a Stagea image which doesn't panic about the absent TCS, and allows you to override a whle bunch of other annoyances that would otherwise see the check engine light on 100% of the time. Also, you can't wind up the power very far on the stock NeoDET ECUs without Nistune, because the boost sensor gets in the way. Nistune allows you to push that problem much further up the dial. Do you even have the boost sensor with the engine? Without it, you are SOL and will need an aftermarket ECU (or to find a sensor somewhere, god knows where). I can't tell you what the wiring loom differences are in a 34. But what Duncan said above needs to be considered. When you say "loom", does that include the transmission loom? Because you will need to swap out the auto tranny loom for the equivalent manual loom, and get rid of the neutral/park start interlock (basically hot wire it).
    • I have had the r3c in for years now, maybe close to 7 years and it has never missed a beat, anyone can drive it. Super easy to drive around town, the hotter it gets does get a little hard but it holds the power easy as
