Yeah you won't believe this but I currently have a Stock Standard ADR approved compliance Catalytic converter on my R33 and when i went for the DECC inspection (i got defected for noise levels a while ago and sent to the decc) , the guy at the DECC inspection has defected me for the cat because i dont have the compliance papers. 2nd hand owner here...

So I've been defected again for a compliance CAT!

I need some help from the good natured people on this forum, because the only one i can find the guy wants 850$ for. And i only need it for a day! Im not paying that for a cat most people throw away.

Anyway the part im looking for to get past this DECC test is as far as i know the Stock CAT for an R33 Series 2, or it also comes off a Nissan Maxima 1998 - 2001 models

The cat will have X3 or X5 stamped on the bottom of them. I can post up some pics tomorrow.

Does anyone have one for Sale, or will to let me borrow/rent for a few days, else my car gets de-registered....

Even if someone has the full exhaust system i will take that.

Call me on 0401016609, names Simon

Thanks :)

Simon,

Where are you located? I have the same problem, check my thread under NSW. I am getting an original cat tomorrow. You can have it after I pass the test. I know what pain you are going through.

got a stock r33 ser2 cat if you want it. pm me or call 0421561681.. in gc qld

Hey guys, sorry no internet for the last couple days.

Um yes the cat was actually x4 and x5 stamped on it on the bottom (the mechanic is dyslexic apparently and told me it was x3, until off course i saw the photos and its clearly a 4), the X5 one looks more like a plate attached to the bottom of cat .

So yeah anyone with a DECC passed cat, i will take it.

The DECC guy in Cambpelltown who is apparently the best to go to has given me two photographs, it the cats dont look like one or the other, he wont pass em.

Will upload photos tomoz.

Will be PMing everyone who has replied here

i have a few adr approved compliance cats here is that what you require?? if so pm me they have flanges on the fo direct bolt in replacement

No they wont pass the ADR compliance cats, trust me i have one ont he car atm.

The DECC specifically want the original nissan parts that get taken off the car for compliance, i know it hard to understand but its the reality we seem to be faced with.

The cats have and X3, X4, X5, stamped on the bottom, some have a nissan stamp also.

If you have one that fits the above criteria PM me!

so basically they want you to return the cat to the "non adr approved" japanese version to pass a test am i getting this right?

That is correct, i have even called and spoken with the one guy responsible for approving these things at the DECC.

Greg somebody, and he is just painfully uncaring.

He will give you the following options

1. Use non standard cat and pass an RTA emmsions test

2. Get the non ADR original nissan CAT and get it passed DECC inspection

Believe me i tried to sort this out and get him to f**king see sense over this. Basically their reasoning is they can't trust mechanics or engineers or US. So unless you have compliance papers for your car, no deal. He even said if you get compliance papers now that youve been defected it wouldnt matter, you still have to go for an emmisions test again!

Good times

Those are the X4 and X5 cats, apparently an X3 is also passable but no photo of it.

Sorry for the horrid scans but the photos i was given are not the best quality.

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
