Well i normally post in the BMW Projects topic on Eurocca.net (http://forums.eurocca.net/showthread...=17736&page=15), and regularly poke around on SAU for hints and tips for my RB26'd BMW, so it's nice to get creative on something a little different.

My father in law owns a cabinet making business, so one day we decided to start making my 2 year old son's christmas present.

The theme is "Lightning McQueen" from the pixar movie "Cars".. and my son's favourite character. McQueen is a bright red C6 Covette built for the racetrack.

The bed has been CNC routed from MDF, and all edges rounded with a hand router. The wheels are sandwiched pieces of MDF (thicker tyres on the rear of course!!) and have even been installed with ball bearings as my son loves to spin anything with wheels.. i guess he gets that from his dad!

Once constructed we painted the entire bed in 2 pack red base coat, then masked off the areas where the lightning bolt is and painted those areas in yellow base coat. Then we layed down the pinstripe around the edges of the lightning bolt and sprayed 2 pack clear over the entire thing (this way my son won't be tempted to try and peel up the pinstripe while he's lying in bed).

My wife grabbed some stickers from the internet and printed them onto label paper and cut them out by hand.

There's about 30 hours in this bed and hopefully my son will fit in it for a few years before we have to think about doing another one! me thinks F1 theme next!!

    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
    • What Duncan said sounds right. Also, it looks like they only have the driver's mat. Not the rest. Because looking at the diagram: KG4911 is just the mat for the driver. KG4900 is the full set if I'm not mistaken and discontinued.   But, it looks like they may still have the full set for the manual S2. Might be worth checking for the other models as well as they seem slightly different. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/nissan-japan/stagea/wgnc34/6649-rb25det/misc/G49 Man, I'm tempted.
    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
