Hey guys,

I've used the search function a lot but haven't come up with any definative answers yet.

My problem is; most times, during full load I'm getting a short burst of misfire after 5k rpm. During this time, the powerfc reads anywhere from 40 to 100 on the knock sensor. So I'm guessing the two issues are related.

I've had my coilpacks checked by re customs and they seem to think the coils are fine it's the rubber intake sucking closed. I also talked to rob at sabbadin and he assured me that 12psi is not enough pressure to suck the intake shut, even for a fairly degraded one.

I bought the parts to strengthen the intake but wasn't game enough to remove all the piping to get to the intake and I don't want to buy a solid one because I plan on upgrading the turbo after this issue is resolved.

Anyways, I took it to trent at status a few times before he went away and he kept taking timing out of the tune and it was fine for a while, but ever since this misfire issue has come up, it seems to be knocking (according to the commander) and misfiring a lot of the time under full load.

Any ideas?

i had a similar problem not long ago, it would start sputtering and missfiring after 4500 ish, i fixed it with new coils, new afm and did the induction pipe diy by putting a solid pipe in there, im not sure which one was the actual one at fault as i did them all at the same time, but perhaps you should check the same things i did.

and fyi, id drop ur psi down to 10, 12 is to much r&r imo

thanks matt.

i was going to buy a set of yellowjackers, but after hearing from RE that the coils were fine and it could be the intake, then hearing from Rob that is shouldn't be the intake i'm a little torn.

i've got the parts for the DIY, but i'm not comfortable enough just yet to remove any of the intake pipes except for the cooler.

does the powerfc have a r&r safety feature?

also, i'd drop the boost, but i've only got the boost T that trent put in and i'm not sure how much i'd have to adjust it, let alone have to adjust it back after fixing the issue

if u live close by i can give u a hand with ur intake pipe, its very easy, hardest bit is taking off the piping, do u have a fmic or smic? (side mount of front mount)

for re to just say, it aint the coils its the intake, is a bit quick of them, did they dyno it or anything? or just pull the answer from no where?

that would be great clutch, i'd reimburse you for your time

not sure what RE did, no dyno. they had a look while they changed the water pump i think. not sure how thorough they were

the main concern at the moment is the knock levels the powerfc is showing. i real don't want to do any damage. did yours do the same thing in that regard?

the knock level spiked to 83 tonight when i loaded it up going from 80 in 4th (without misfiring), but every other time the high knock reading is coupled with the popping from the exhaust.

anyone else have any opinions?

do the intake mod, its super easy.

fit new plugs and gap them down if need be (until they stop missing under load)

if it still knocks use the temporary adjustment on the pfc to pull out a couple of degrees of timing and see if it still knocks

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
