G'day Peter.

Since the demise of the Asuka tuners (hard to get in small quantities at an affordable price), I've been hunting for a suitable replacement.

I've tested a few which were OK but had their limitations. This last one looks the goods in its anodised aluminium case and works really well. I sent one of my 2 samples to Brad (Ducati02) in SA and he did a back-to-back comparison with the Asuka HR3 and found the new tuner picked up signal better and in places the other didn't.

Based on my testing and Brad's recent feedback, I've placed an order for a small quantity. These units have been upgraded to come with a an AV input including cable (not shown in pic) that can be used for reverse cam (it switches to that input on supply of 12V to a wire) or any other AV source like DVD/GPS etc. Because of the special order they are not sitting in a warehouse ready to ship and with Chinese New Year happening soon, the delivery date could be mid Feb.

There is one in SA if you are desparate to have it straight away. The other is in my Stagea & I'd rather keep it :)

Oh, and the price looks like it will be ~$230, plus maybe $15 in postage. This makes it excellent value when you consider it comes with antennas and the RCA leads where the Asuka didn't.

Cheers, Leon.

Yeah, they're close. Manufacturer is putting them together on Monday and shipping soon after. They say they'll be here by the end of next week, but I think it'll be a few days after that. I've asked for an extended IR remote sensor cable (5m long instead of 3m on samples) and they will supply these with this batch.

I'll post some more pics and install options in a new thread soon. Cheers, Leon.

Hi everyone. The tuners are here and I've assembled a few extras to help with the installation.

I've posted the details on the Stagea forum since that's where most of the TV talk seemed to be.

I look forward to hearing from you. I'll PM those who expressed prior interest later.

Cheers, Leon.

The thread (link above) is now updated with some very basic info to help everyone with the DIY. More detail to come in the next few days.

Please feel free to ask questions there or continue to PM me for more info and/or help.

Interesting... where do you mount the antennas?

I may get one if the reception feedback is good.

Hi Tim, I've been told the best place for the antennas are front & back screens for maximum separation. Coax runs behind A pillar & C pillar trim & the antannas stick to the glass right at the top. I saw pics from one install and they couldn't be seen from outside, but he also had a strip of dark tint at the top.

Reception in capital cities is normally pretty good with these antennas. They are almost as good as the factory ones in the Stageas which we are lucky enough to be able to use.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.

    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
