Well I'm looking at getting either an R32 GTR or, an engine and gearbox-less 32.

I'd be putting in either an RB25det or an RB30et.

What do you think would be a good price on a gts-t etc with a blown engine.

Will I need to do any mods to the brakes for the power?

Are the rear axles 28 spline, I'm assuming yes.

What has 5 stud and what has 4 stud.

I'm basically looking for something thats already tough that will handle a half cut or similar.

And I'd only want to pay 6-10k for that car if everything was in good condition - minus engine gearbox.

Tell me what you think.

Good price i reckon you wuld get a 32 fair condition with a running engine for 10 if u hunt melbourne is the place too search for cheap cars......

you would get a great looking 32 less engine and box for 10 ......

just make sure you get the turbo version of the 32 due too brakes and diff difference too much hassel if you dont get the turboed version

Thanks for the quick reply, well currently I'm in the middle of converting my n/a vl. But I'm getting slack on that and want something newer.. Not much newer but still.

Hows the MX7 go bolting up, will it fit in driveline channel and have the stick poking out in the same area? I'm assuming engine mounts would be the same for all rbs or very similar.

May even buy one complete and sell engine/ gearbox, do a transplant into my vl. Got me onto another idea, thanks champ.

As in will the mx7 - 5speed turbo gearbox out of vlt, fit into the skylines driveline tunnel.

And would the gearstick come out in the same place in the cabin?

I'm assuming the engine mounts would be the same as they are all the same series.

I'm just trying to decide whether to put an rb30/25 with the mx7 gearbox in or to go with something else.

stick with the RB30det block and put the Rb25 det head on too make it twin cam very common in all skylines and vls .... should fit i dont see why not engine mounts will fit just use your rb30 block from the vl stick a rb 25 head on it .

dont know why u wanna use the vl gearbox just get a manual or rb 25 manual stick it behind the rb30 you have to sheer the dowl in the rb25 box too accept the block if not it wont line up ....

well if u wanna drag or drift im assuming u wanna drag so stick with the vl auto beef it up a lil and go tear the strip down ... if u want go with a powerglide 2 speed box they are as tuff as guts and dont need much modifying too get it too race specs chuck a high stall convertor in it and theres a few seconds gaind alone .....

    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
    • You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
