Been Quoted $440 for an Apex'i RSM from Formaz(cheaper than xspeed $500+

I intend to install it in my ute mostly for the fact i'll get aspeed reading over 255kmh.. i know it also shows RPM. but what other features does it have? i've heard various things like air fuel ratio etc as well.. but i'd like other peoples views on this..

also.. is the price right or are there cheaper 1's available through other suppliers?

go to www.takakaira.com

These guys are Japanese perfromance parts exporters.

I order my Apex SAFC delviered to my door 7 working days for $550 better than paying $770 through local shops here in perth,

I just looked up your RSM and comes to $340 add approx $40 for UPS freight so $380 all up NOT BAD AT ALL! saving of $60 which is prob how much it would cost to install! so really a free install for what you have been quoted locally!

On a private road right ? :D

The aftermath of the high-speed crash...

me: doc, how are my legs?

Doctor: your legs are being express-posted to us from the vicinity of the accident (read: legs thrown 50k's up the road)

me: *beeeeeeeep* *flatline heart monitor*

urrr. i'll pass.. your on your own with that speed...

Oh, a "flyby" on the EMERGENCY lane on the freeway, during a run/cruise right ?

that's responsible. considering I got BANNED from the midnightcruise eGroup for MUCH LESS than that.... hmpf.

I'll stand behind a 1m thick concrete barrier, on the side of a road then while you "fly by" shall i?

I'd like to SEE it, not experience it :D

A photo of ur speedo would be cool tho :D (not encouraging speeding btw)

actually it wasnt a midnight cruise was after another cruise and they were heading home roads were empty id wind it out, overtook them and kept going, did the run 4 times that night was good, passenger enjoyed it to, the cars dead stable, seems the areodynamics arent that shabby on them and the suspension is setup nicely. Its not something i recommend everyone to try and do tho :D

TSK TSK TSK Summoner. After those words of wisdom you gave us a couple of weeks ago about hoons on the news that time thrashing it up Leach Hwy and after you convinced me that you were a good boy and all of those people were controlled and only a few idiots do stuff like that in public areas....

Were you in one of those cars that night that was shown on the news??:D

Sorry dude had to stir you up...:uh-huh:

Anywayz i'm not one to talk i think a lot of us have broken the law whilst driving then again doing 250km/h down the emergency lane isn't in my list of law breaking as yet.

Oh by the way dude another website is Nengun! same thing as Taka Kaira but i don't have the address ...oh here it is:

www.nengun.siteblast.com check it out aswell...quite good i have heard, haven't used him 1st hand though.

time and place, those on the news were doing it during times when there were other cars on the road. I did my runs at a late enough time (approx 2am) where only other cars on road were people from a cruise, and even then only saw 2 at the time.

As i said i don't condone such driving, but i am interested to see how quick she goes. As for the thursday night thing, no i wasn't there that night, had a business dinner to attend but i can usually be found there still, cops have done sfa really we just get less dickheads now.

So after the big fuss the news made about it, it looks as though things came out better for you guys in the end! Good to hear

The less D*ckheads the better when it comes to things like that. Do cops ever try to break things up in the car parks when everyone is meeting? I wouldn't mind coming down one night and checking out the cars!

I think i saw your car at the rollaboyz dyno day aswell.. 350 Rwhp wasn't bad (is that the correct figure?)i think you were speakin to my bro Matt a couple of times..

Matt Webbs ya bro?

Yeh i was at the dyno day.. the dyno at myaree reads high(hence rb like it).. Yeh cops ahve tried from time to time, blocked of the ends in a "random" inspection, told everyone to piss off otherwise they'd fine them etc. Its all fun, we see it more as a joke and go there have some fun, then amongst ourselves organise a bit of after meet activities

Mark , Nenguns cool, completely trustworthy but with the amount of emails, a bit slow.

He is an ex W Aussie living in Japan and his Dad lives in Nth Beach. Bought a bit off him with no probs.

BTW , what speed did the Porker do on the Katrine sprint.

We saw 7200 rpm in 4th ( dunno what speed but the needle was well off the clock )and My nav was driving that stage.

Bugger , knew I should have swapped over earlier.

Ken

we did about 220 i think on that stage, i just looked forward and at the road seeing this cornernig approaching us(i do recall dad shifting into 5th tho). Your Zed is beautiful, probably 1 of the nicest imports i have seen ever. Not to mention you great driving style, at burswood that was amazing ass out around most corners..

i'll have a look at that nengun site thanks should be good. Are there any sites in english that state all the features that the RSM does?

    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
    • You don't have an R34 service manual for the body do you? Have found plenty for the engine and drivetrain but nothing else
