A group of us Hobart boys are planning to cruise up to Launie this weekend and we're all curious about how the new Hooning Laws have taken effect!?

Last time we headed up that way the cops couldn't care less... that still the way?

Has anyone has their cars impounded? It has been rather odd down here, since the new laws have taken place there have been a heap more accidents, other day a car got t-boned and ended up 20 metres down the road on it side, main road of Hobart.

Providing the cops still don't give a crap it should be a good run. Hope to see you all out and about Saturday night.

The hoon laws haven't changed the cops up here, but, you must be lucky when you come up, they will book you for ANYTHING you do wrong, as long as you keep clean in the city you'll be fine. Only good thing is they don't really give a shit about mods. At the end of last week 5 cars had been impounded, so I've heard anyway. Not sure if any more got taken over the wknd.

Unfortunately all the platinum boys will be at a mate's 21st saturday night.

Good luck with the cruise mate.

Sorry to barge in. A few of us SAU VIC boys are planning a week long cruise early next year. This is going to start at Launie (cars coming by ferrie), go down to Hobart and then back up to Launie (hopefully via a different route) to catch the ferrie back to Melb.

- What are these Hooning laws?

- For what reason do the Police impound the cars?

- How are they with club cruises?

Al - They can confiscate for 'burnouts' 'racing' 'music too loud' that sort of stuff, they haven't been too bad and I doubt they could confiscate ur car interstate, also when you are travelling in a group they ussually leave you alone, as long as you don't do the wrong thing in the city u'll be alright.

bygrave316, which night won't really make too much difference different cars out on different nights.

Thanks.

Another question:

Where do you guys buy you 98 ron fuel from, and how many servo's have it?

I was looking on the net, so i could plan out the fuel stops, but found that Shell (optimax) and Mobil (8000) do not have servo's with 98 ron fuel :P:(. Waiting for a Booklet from BP, hopefully they sell Ultimate there.

no luck, best you can get down here is caltex vortex which is apparently 96 ron. When tassie guys approached the fuel companies about the problem, the answer received was that not enough 98 ron is produced for the whole country to recieve it, even though we are the only state that doesn't get it, and we have a rather small population... go figure....

I use toluene when I can be bothered, otherwise octane boost every so often, car will still run on premium just not as smooth as 98 ron.

Where can we purchase toluene, and how much do you put with 35-40 litres of 96ron to get up to 100ron ;). Is it safe to run? Meaning, it will not do any sort of damage to the engine.

My car is tunned for 98ron, and because we are planning to cruise the mountains, i will not be willing to use anything less.

PS: Thanks for your help

I'm chinese...international student in uni of Tas...just own a R33 GTST....Just wonder....where do u guys hanging around on fri or sat nite? I nvr see group of car's member hanging around in Hobart.....Any 1 welcome me?

Last Saturday bygrave316 and I filled the tanks to max and prepared ourselves for a big night out in Launie with a passenger each. Other guys just decided to come with us because one is down a wheel and the other's car wouldn't keep up if it tried.

Armed with CB's, DV Cams and Still Digital Cams we were up for a big eventful trip.

Headed off around 3:30 and got into Launie around 5:30, so we pretty much kept to the limit, eccept when overtaking and on the speedo check.

Picked up a local mate and headed to Country Club Casino and I must say it puts Wrest Point to shame. By the time we'd all managed to lose our cash on ruelette it was time to head out on the block.

Was a little quiet compared to the last few times we headed up. All I really noticed amongst the crowd of commodores was a Blue Supra with ApexI computer but he never was up for anything, he just putted off the line everywhere. Other than that, there was a few older skylines which didn't seem to be much. An Orange MR2 and a Yellow 180.

Got rather sick of it after a while and decided to head into Lonnies the Club and straight away I noticed the ladies are a lot tidier up Launie. Lonnies the club is way more stylish than anything down Hobart. We parked right outside the club for the night and didn't have to worry about a thing.

About 3am the power all over the CBD went out and club essentially turned into dungeon full of people and no music or lights. So we went for a cruise and found an XR6 Turbo to fang around with for a bit which soon became boring because all the traffic lights were out aswell as the street light.

Bygrav316 wanted to head home at 4:10 but our passengers didn't.. So we left them there and filled up again at BP and prepared for a quick limitless cruise home. Well limitless we thought, until bygrave316 hit Speedlimiter at 180-190k whereas I'm good for 250kmh. Managed to only hit one possum each on the way but luckily no damage to us.

Arrived home in Hobart at 5:30 just clearing an hour and a half of drive time with 2 quick stops. Bygrave316 accidently took a wrong turn at that huge roundabout just outa Launie and my bolt covers on my wheels were about to come off from the speed so we had to stop and remove them for the ride.

Hopefully no camera's got us, didn't see any flashes. But yesterday I received a Summons to go to court for another offence, guess that's fate farkkk.

Myself and a few others went camping and there was a cruise to devo that night aswell.

Yeh Lonnies is pretty cool, there pretty much every week.

And yeh you can't get away from commos here.

What rides do you guys have?

Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves.

its_tricky83 had saab 9000 cd turbo... 2.3l 4cyl dark blue....

goes hard for a 4cyl keeps up with my car... well I get about a car lenth on it...

I had the r33 gtst Burgundy.....

as its_tricky83 said about blue supra..... not very impressed as was booting it around in front of me and when i was at lights (side by side i might add...) just didnt want to go..... whats with that playing with apexi controller lights turn orange and i got my rev's up......

very disappointed.....

looking for a bit of fun and something to get on camra.......

any1 else seen this supra go or had a go with it????

will be back up on friday the 5th of nov and 6th 2 c min of sound at lonnies....

Yeah that pretty much sums up the Supra we saw.. the guy had a pony tail! HA.

Should be headin up there for Ministry at Lonnies, probably wont be on the street that Saturday night all that much as we'll be too busy getting plastered.

But we will prolly head up Friday afternoon and block it out, perhaps lose more money at the cas until it gets dark. So hopefully all you Platinum boys will be out and about. Should all live it up at Ministry aswell.

Any of you headin down to Hobart between now and then? Be sure to post it and we'll try to be out. We live along side the block so if there is anything ever happening we're quick to get amongst it.

    • For DBA, check out their guide table here. https://dba.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Direct_Replacement-Guide-2021.2.pdf   Additionally they have some other guides and info on how to make sure you choose the right pad.
    • Sorry, just assumed that talk of coloured pads meant EBC red/green/yellow/shit stuff. I don't know the DBA pads, but it's a reasonable bet that they will be OK. DBA make good stuff generally. Those 4000 series rotors I linked to are very good. I may well replace the RDA rotors I have with those when required.
    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
