FOR SALE: T78 :D Just Kidding

OK... it's not the best turb on the market but I just got the car and it's got this set up and I enjoy it for now. Never been for a ride in twin set-up.... never been in any other GTR besides mine (so I have no reference ponts to make judgment) I think I will shut up now and keep my NOOB comments to myself.

siksII - day to day driving - yes I do change gear well B4 I hit the 8k mark.

i wasnt talking about when u drive to the shops every day

plus i was more referring to sydneykid's comment as he wouldnt be talking about day to day driving... my point was if the revs drop 3 grand when u change u would not have to wait for boost in a gtr if u shift at the standard redline

i have been in a stock one and one with n1's (runs 11.7) (both r33)

the stock one feels pretty slow not much fun there...

the other one has ridiculous amounts of torque power in the midrange from about half way through second gear...and feels like it could pull hard wayy past 8 grand. (stock rev limit set on pfc)

Maybe my Rb26 doesn't even make 150hp of boost, i couldn't really cares, it get around fine off boost and to quote whether u got race cars or what ever is shining the torch abit. I'm not out to prove i have massive technical knowledge or do i have a golden spanner. I'm just discussing my specific case. Just from my limitted knowledge of cars I know enought to say no 2 cars are exactly the same with exacting set up. So is everyone driving style.

But i can say one thing is, modifying cars is a very much so personal taste, and if u want to build a track special looks no further than some stock cars ei. from Porsche-bmw-lotus. As the amount of RD that went into these cars will humble just about most cars that are screw together by the hobyist racer, with out having one screw turn.

I have an open mind to alot of things said and respect alot of ppls opinion disregaring their technical knowledge, But it be more courteous to be discussing the relevant points, than having critical comments and quoting 3rd party "facts"

I'm sure lots of ppls here think i'm a no brainer, but that's life. So be it.

I have no problem with people having their own choice, after all it is their money, their time and effort. All I do is point out things that need to be understood when making a decision, too many people make decisions without the data to do so.

I may use race cars as an example because I have thousands of data samples to draw on. I don't have to guess, I have the data to back it up. Data for road cars is not such a priority, I have a lot but not anywhere near as much.

Road turbo sizing for me is very easy, I cruise at 120 kph max and as pointed out it is better to do that with no boost. My Skyline does 37 kph per thousand rpm in top gear. So I don't want any boost until after 3,250 rpm. So if I choose a turbo that will make boost at 3,500 rpm I will have the best of both worlds. I only have to rev it to 6,500 rpm in first, so it drops to 3,750 rpm in 2nd and I still have plenty of boost.

I don't understand, for a road car, anyone not wanting boost until 5,000 rpm, that's a 185kph cruising.

I should point out that there are plenty of other factors involved in when the turbo makes boost, many more than simply the tubo itself. Camshaft timing and lift, compression ratio, porting, manifolds, igntion timing, fuel tuning boost controller etc etc.

Hope that helps clarify:cheers:

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
