Finally I thought i might update you all on the progress of the car.......

Zac @ Cypher tuned it for me...... a couple of hours later we got about 310 rwhp on the formaz dyno which is apparently one of the lower reading dynos.... It would have been more but the car kept smoking the tires on the dyno after 6000rpm!!! But the general concensus with my setup is that the GT35R turbo is just too big for the skyline donk. Boost doesnt hit hard until about 5800rpm. But for a bit of fun i went to the drags on Wed night to see how it would go... best of the night was my last 12.65@192km/h. Conditions were terrible (77% hum, 20deg air temp and 30deg track temp) but it got better as the night came to a close. So the next step is to remove the 1.0ar exhaust housing and put an .82ar housing with an external gate. This will bring the 'power band' in a few thousand rpm sooner and then we can squeeze some more power out of it....... but as for now, major exaust manifold leak and yellow sticker, so plenty of work to do :D

AHAHAHA small world,

you talk about Mick Briffa... I am sure it was you who i was speaking to when my plugs fouled that time out the front of his shop in morley there.... i own the burgandy SLY 33

he had just done the engine polishing....

Mick is a good old school friend of mine and has done a lot of work to mine as far as polishing and metal fab. he also wanted to do my plenum by i hadn't seen any other examples..

one quick question is does it flow ok? are the air flows to each one ok? i was worried about it before he did it coz i have heard of lots of troubles with any custom plenum air flow.....

hey michael

just wanted to say youve done a great job with the build!

do you have any clearance issues with the drop tank??....i managed to have a good look at it all the way into the city on the kwinana freeway last week when you kept flying past me :) and it looked mighty low

what was the sticker for?

Yeah.... that was me alright. I remember the emotions getting a bit high when the car wouldnt run properly! Mick and I sat down one sat night over a bottle of something(???) and pondered how to make a plenumn. I wanted a complete one not a throttle body relocation as other ppl have got him to do. So the best we could do was copy the greddy one. It works really well but obviously there are other things to consider now that one has been made. I think it is a bit small plus the runners are a bit short which makes the car suffer down low. But other than that its all sweet..... I dont think he will be making another one in a hurry tho....... i broke his balls for 3 weeks on that one :)

As for slippery.... have i had clearance issues with the drop tank? yes... major problems. I have cleaned it up good and propper several times. I actually split it. But just to clarify..... its only a cover that sits inder the spare tyre well.... but im sure all you real skyline heads know that the fuel tank is under the backseat :) But i am getting it shortened by about 2 inches to make it more driveable. I managed to scrape it on flat road once ahahahahahahahahaha, stoopid thing!

As for the licky, well lets just say its mighty low. When i got to the pit, they didnt like my tint, my 10inch rear rims, the blow off valve location, seats, and the chip in my windscreen.... so im sort of stuck atm, got till the end of march and no time now back at work....

BTW does anybody here have a set of springs to pass the pit?????

    • Kinkstah, no, coilovers aren't illegal, especially as a bolt straight in. The illegal part will be if they're altering suspension geometry beyond factory limits, or the ride height is not legal.   Sounds like the blue slipper just didn't want to deal with any later possibility of mods appearing on the car.
    • The problem has always been that coilovers are able to be adjusted, almost at any time, to be too low. Most people who ever get/got defected for/with coilovers were actually afoul of the minimum ride height rule. So the interpretation by cops/inspectors was always that it is pointless to allow numpty to raise his coilovers and get the car inspected/cleared, then just drop them back down again as soon as they get around the corner from the inspection station.  This led to the interpretation that they were illegal unless rendered such that they can't be adjusted (ie, collars welded to the body, that sort of thing). That may or may not have ever actually been the official line, but I'm pretty sure it's not considered to be a solution these days. Coilovers themselves fall under clause 3.2 b of that manual, because they are an "installation of a variable ride height system" and they don't fit the exclusions in that clause (which point to air springs and other pneumatic adjusters). So, as per previous statements, they require engineering cert to be legal on the road. Once you have such cert, provided you do not adjust them outside the height range covered by the cert, you are OK. Without, you have an unroadworthy vehicle.
    • Here E10 is the cheapest fuel. And general advice is to not use it unless you hate your car. From what I remember it clogs up stuff in the fuel system or injectors?  With US/Canada being E10 across the board, does that mean that all fuel there is terrible?
    • Sorry, are coilovers ACTUALLY ILLEGAL in NSW? They aren't in Vic, as long as they retain 70% of stock travel and the car is above 100mm off the ground. Does NSW actually have a law making coilovers actually illegal? RWC/Blue Slip/Engineering people not knowing the actual f**king laws boils my blood. Demand them to point to the documentation that states a coilover is illegal. (it may exist in NSW ) Edit: I checked. They aren't. https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-infosheet-light-vehicle-modifications-manual-suspension-and-ride-height.pdf
