Hey Guys,

I've got some JID coilovers in my line and if the suspension was any stiffer it'll be welded on. As much as I like the suspension rock hard to maintain speeds of 60k's around roundabouts and watching girl passengers tit's bounce as I drive over the slightest bump...sometimes it gets a bit much.

So are all coilovers dampening adjustable or do some have it and some don't.

Cheers

The easiest method is to check the top of the front shocks for some form of adjustment, knob, allen key hole or screw driver slot. Clockwise is harder, anticlockwise is softer.

Be aware that adjusting the shocks doesn't change the spring rates and most Japanese kits have rediculously high spring rates. If you want to check the springs rates have a look at this thread, do the measurements and I will work out your spring rates for you.

:) cheers :

hehe i noticed that when i had hks coilovers tits(attached to girls :P ) definetly bounced around a lot and in fact even got sore, it was a new thing to me i thought people were joking that that happened! maybe the japs had some sneaky ideas when deciding on the spring rates :P

The Japanese market and road conditions are a lot different to most of Australia, so they can get away with stuck stupidly high spring rates.

If you lived in the metropolitan area of Canberra and didn't venture out into unsealed surfaces much, you could get away with thinking Jap coilover manufacturers weren't getting kickbacks from the Chiropractic association. I've been on racetracks that aren't as smooth as the roads in the capital.

And in Japan, few people commute in their sports cars. Their idea of "streetable" and "daily driven" are far different to ours, since they don't do the mileage. Chances are if they're driving their sports car, they're driving it hard.

or maybe japanese girls just don't have any tits :D But thats ok..we'll forgive them for that

I just realised I didn't answer your question.

Coilovers aren't necessarily damper rate adjustable. Some are merely ride height adjustable, and some have no adjustment at all.

As most people have said, adjustable coilovers don't necessarily soften out the ride. Most of your low to mid range coilovers only adjust the damper rebound, which doesn't affect how the suspension behaves when you first hit the bump. Only what happens after the damper compresses.

That and since your spring does most of the resistance to compression, the penchant for uber-stiff spring rates that Jap coilover kits have means you won't be able to soften your ride out that much.

Damn straight - all those people that pay us Canberrans out are missing out on our AWESOME roads, ability to use fireworks AND purchase porn if one felt like doing it... suckers!

The fact that you guys need to pay for porn makes all the payouts justified. :P

And if I want fireworks, I just replace my cat with a test pipe and rev the engine out before popping off the throttle :D
