Yeah Donnie, I don't think there is any travel - when I tried pushing down on the side of the car there was virtually no movement at all and put my weight behind it. Why would it be better just to get new springs and not shocks to match the springs? Thanks for your help Alan
-
Thanks Skyzerr, will see what I can do but don't have a digital camera. Yeah one unit looks like it could be an ECU of some sort, it lies horizontal towards the RHS of the car. From pics I have seen of PowerFC's and stock ECU's it looks similar to that (bit it isn't a PowerFC). The other item is between that and the battery, lying vertical. Looks to me like a fluid reservoir of some sort but it has wires coming out of it Alan

Being new to the Skyline experience, I have some rather basic questions and opinions that I would like to ask. 1. My fuel gauge fluctuates whilst driving, it will show say 3/4 when I start then after a short while drop to say 1/2 then back to 3/4, etc - this happens during the whole time I am driving - any ideas? 2. When changing from 3rd gear to 4th gear at around 100kmh, it is rather stiff and almost feels like it is struggling to get into gear, when doing the same change at lower revs it is fine. 3. My car appears to have very stiff lowered springs and the ride is very unforgiving (Tonkin Hwy is like a toboggan ride). I have been told that the shocks need to be changed to match the springs - is this correct? How do I tell what springs I have? What shocks should I go for? 4. [Real basic one this one] - what is in the space under the parcel shelf of a Series II besides the battery? There are 2 items in there that I don't know what they are. Cheers, Al

Check out Protectomat Protectomat They have dashmats for Series I and Series II Skylines. They are based in Perth but sell their products through automotive retailers. You may need to email them to find the part number - that's what I did to find the Series II one. Cheers, Al

You should borrow a spare wheel as its required for compliance and its other stupid things they pick on. They failed mine first time up due to a crack in the exhaust just before the muffler (couldn't hear it but they found it) and they wanted some a/m fog lights completely removed - its not as if they were actually connected or working, mind you but they wanted them removed (we just tucked them under the front bumper in the end). Apparently (and I don't know how true this is) but if you do fail then they can only re-check what you failed the first time to see if its fixed. They can't fail you again for other reasons. Al

Here are some pics (auction ones) of my Red Series II Skyline - its a lighter red than the Series I cars although the colour changes dramatically depending on the light http://www.members.iinet.net.au/~aashford/...e/MainPics.html Al

Could someone who knows what happened with Gr33dy either email or PM me as my 'line was complianced at the same place and now wondering what the f#ck happened in case there is something I need to worry about. The alarm and stereo work was done by another person from what I can tell and they didn't put in the FM Frequency Expander although they said they would (doesn't matter too much as replacing the head unit anyway) Cheers, Al

Choice is yours and what you are comfortable with. I imported mine through Prestige Motorsport and they helped me during the whole process. Whilst I ended up with a few goodies I didn't know about (quickshift, Blitz BOV, etc) I also got two deep scratches on the rear bumper and one on the front spoiler (due to shipping, etc). So you win some and lose some. Worked out a lot cheaper than through a dealer that's for sure and I would have saved around $7,000 or so Cheers Al

Further to the above, does the aerial on an R33 Spec II auto or manual as mine doesn't move when the stereo is turned on and it is still the stereo that was in the car in Japan?
-
My recently acquired R33 Spec II came with a Sony MDX-C8000 MD Tuner / CD Changer and a Sony XDP-552 DSP unit, neither of which I have yet to have time to really get into. Does anyone know anything about these two components? I haven't been able to find a CD Changer yet in the car so therefore, can only assume that I can only play MDs (which I don't have any). Also, does anyone know where I could find a user manual or something similar for the units? Had a look on the web and the ones I found were in Japanese that I can't read. Any help, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Al

Justin, It took about 3 weeks all up (but I got Danny to go slow as our first baby arrived at the same) so was busy with him. I too got the hi-flow cat to go with the exhaust system. Car was clean coz I got it detailed cost about $200 or so and they did a great job - it didn't look like that when I saw it at the wharf that's for sure. Once he gets going compliancing only took just over a week but then there is the alarm system, servicing and the licencing which took two days. Did you know Danny is going to offer servicing and maintenance on the cars he complies - we were talking about it when I picked mine up. One thing to look for are the mods that you don't get told about like mine had a Pivot Quickshift, Blitz BOV, turbo timer none of which were on the auction sheet. Once jnr gets settled will definately go on a cruise or two or three. Cheeres, Al

Hey GR33DyMANGO Was you the guy who took the silver Spec II for a spin last Tuesday around Welshpool from Danny Fisher's place. If so, I saw ya there as I was picking up the red Spec II that had just been finished and registered?? Al

Now that I finally have my Skyline registered it is time to sell the Celica to help towards paying for the Skyline. It is a white 1990 Toyota SX Celica 2.2l EFI in very good condition with few blemishes and no accident history. 185,000 kms on the clock but has been fully serviced and maintained (I have owned it since 1993). No modifications done to it so it is totally standard. Asking price = approx. $10,000. If you know of anyone who might be interested either PM or email me for further details. Regards Al

Sorry that was supposed to be turbo timer module to arm the immobiliser once the timer has finished. The sensors are just shock sensors not related to the TT module. All was done at the time of compliance.
-
I just had an Autowatch system fitted to my R33 for around $430 including the turbo timer module and sensors. Global Motorworks who did the compliance work arranged it for me. Haven't picked the car up yet though as having "fun" with the police and registration. I was recommended either the Autowatch or the Cyclops. Your quote sounds damn good to me. Cheers, Al

How long have you had your skyline
Red Sky II replied to kabab's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Mine got knocked back yesterday afternoon at Welshpool due to a supposed hairline fracture in the front of the muffler and they wanted some disconnected, non-functioning aftermarket foglamps removed. Gotta try again on Monday now. Stupid thing is that in the boot or hidden elsewhere were the mods that were removed for compliance and registration (eg turbo timer, Air Flow meter, strut brace, racing pedals, etc, Blitz BOV). What do they think I am going to do with them once registered - leave them in the boot !!! -

Nah, I imported it through Geoff Risbey at Prestige Motorsport after a fairly long search. Didn't like the prices the Perth dealers were charging for Spec II's so decided to do the import thing. -

Get mine registered tomorrow (hopefully) -
If over 25 try Steve Walter at Torque Insurance

I prefer not to have the stickers on as it tells them what brand alarm system you have and hence gives them a bit of a head start on how to deal with it - applying this to the professional thief as the others wouldn't care or know. They will know you have an alarm or an immobiliser anyway due to the flashing LED inside the car so no need to give them any further info. Just my thoughts. Regards Al

Don't know who he is but I have seen a blue R33 GTR parked outside Glengarry Hospital all last week that was owned by surprise, surprise a doctor.

For those looking for insurance and you are over 25 then try Steve Walter at Torque Insurance (part of Lumley Insurance). They only insure 25yo or more, good driving record, car not parked at "on street" parking and some other exlusions. I have insured a 96 Spec II Skyline at $830pa on a full no claim bonus.

From a biased view point I like the red of the Series II (coz that's what I got) and understand there aren't that many around of that colour (at least compared to the other colours). If I had to choose between black and white, then it would have to be white

The only one I saw on the news was in Wellington St East Perth - a 200SX and the owner in hospital. The car jackers stole the car again from the cop shop to make things worse. They claim it is the african group that was in yesterday's paper - they seem to operate in any area
