Haha, yeah, I forgot the shoutout was for Anthony I only got carsales pic ): Which will be updated hopefully tonight. You can hear me coming AND see me coming ! (Exhaust is at 99 dB) Depends with future projects, but I was thinking a matte black spray. I haven't seen any in Canberra (Whether or not that's a good or bad thing).
-
I spotted Rob's (Not a Pulsar) R33 4 Door, my understanding is that these cars are rare and that Rob has the only one in Canberra ! So, it felt extra special to see a fellow SAU member's car ! Oh yeah, I saw it in his garage ! Nice bloke too
-
Cheers for the more indepth description, it now makes sense ! Haha thanks Brad ! I forgot to give you a shoutout): From your knowledge earlier ! So, I'll thank you now. Thanks ! Edit: oops, it was Anthony I msissed ! So, thanks to Anthony ! haha I can safetly say, if it ever happens again or happens to someone else, I can point them in the right direction ! It's a pain in the bum when trying to kick it, or even go for the famous "Form One Lanes" at the lights): I'm on the northside - about 2 minutes from Rob !Rob has already offered me his services plentiful times, which I am extremely greatful for; really nice bloke and always keen to help. p.s I'm yet to post in the "Spotted !" thread that I saw a 4 door Skyline Tonights project will be gapping ! Will get some pics and video of before and after. Rob, you drive a hard bargain yet again !I might have to snatch those Sparkies off you !
-
Oh, they don't come as 0.8? (I didn't buy these plugs, they were purchased a week before me buying the skyline). When you refer to "gapping" is that something I purchase or a garage job? (I'm still learning lots about cars )
-
I haven't touched the plugs yet. They're fairly cheap nowadays Rob, cheers though ! I'll have to take your coilpacks back out and the plugs if it fixes the issue. So, I'll spend some dollar and test it. Spark plugs were the first suggestions by many, but disregarded due to them being new (apparently) whether or not they are the correct plugs is unknown. So, I'll buy them, try them and hope it works. I want this problem solved finally When I get home from work I'll be working on it with my brother in law and hopefully when I swing by again Rob, I can return your parts. If the plugs fail, may have to hook it up to your snazy computer.

Hey guys ! I notice I derailed this thread with talks about my issue, so I created a thread which can be found here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/421565-jeremys-r33-issue-splutter/ I'll post up my progress with videos and pictures along the way. First time working on a skyline, let alone a car (quite exciting). Cheers, Jeremy

Hey Guys, I thought instead of going off topic in the selling thread, I'd thought I'd create my own. So after a few SAU members giving their wisdom and a few of my mates we've tried the following. 1. Cleaned Airflow 2. Lowered boost (also raised) 3. changed coilpacks 4. restarted ECU 5. Spark plugs replaced as of 3 weeks ago* 6. Did everything else I could think of (cleaned bits and pieces) The issue is still there; spluttering at 3,000-4,000 RPM. On a few of the tests (low boost) I was getting the following response from the engine. 2nd gear take off 4,000 RPM; splutter inaitated, 4,000-4,500 RPM engine was fine up until 6,000 RPM (Gear change). 3rd gear was a little better (Not spluttering until 4,500-5,000. *Spoke to my friend a moment ago, and he found this on the Tubes. (same issue)The result was not using the correct spark plug. The guy who I bought the car off did some testings to fix the issue and said he changed the plugs and belt (+ other things). I'm guessing he put in the wrong plugs or something. So, for my next adventure - I will be buying some plugs and testing them. Fingers cross this is what fixes it. Will post update and possibly a videos. I'd like to give a huge shoutout to Rob for helping me in person with supplying parts and giving advice over the phone whilst I was leaning over the bonnet and a shoutout to Brad for his knowledge in the other thread / via PM. Also, a shoutout to everyone else on SAU for giving their 2cents; everyone said it was sparkplugs from the start, but given that they had been changed before purchase, I thought it wasn't the issue.
-
Okay, I'll keep that in mind when I do the testing. I'll be lowering the boost that is for sure. I didn't realise it was so high. A fellow SAU member, Rob, Is kind enough to lend him his coilpack (And a few extras) to test to see if it is the coilpack before I go out and spend $600 on splitfire coilpack haha. I just hope it's not the ECU, apparently they're an expensive piece of hardware.
-
I have everything open atm. (Airbox, exhaust etc) So ECU should be picking that up right? It has new plugs as of 3 weeks ago. I'll just need to test the coilpacks I think.
-
It is sounding more and more convincing to be the ECU. All the symptons you have suggested has been happening. (Fuel gauge dropping so quick - used 2 full tanks within 2 days - 1 day = 2 hour drive on a highway and some testing on the second day which brought it to empty). Also the engine just spits and spatters when boost engages at x bar. I'm thinking to winding the boost all the way down so it's at like 0.2 bar (Whatever PSI that is). If it stops spluttering after lowering the boost, does that mean I do not need coilpacks?
-
I think I'll be taking out my notepad and pen and writting all this down. Cheers for the advice ! It's helping out more than you guys think. I got a boost gauge - whether or not it's telling a true reading is unkown.
-
This maybe the answer to my problem, becuase it use to cut out at 5,000 RPM but when fiddling with the boost it now cuts out at 3,000 RPM. A friend of mine was changing it and testing it so I'm not sure what it was on and what it is now on. But, this information may solve the problem. Also, could a mixture of 2 different set of coil plugs be an issue as well? Cheers for your help everyone, and apologiees for ninjaing the thread.
-
Welcome Joey! I am new myself, but so far everyone has been great and really helpful.
-
Thanks guys ! I'm taking all the good luck I can get on this one
-
You can probably hear me drive by at 7:30am of a morning haha
-
I'm over at Dunlop. At this stage, I'm taking all offers haha. I'm only starting to learn about cars and decided I'd start with a R33 Skyline.
-
Alright, cheers Rob ! I'll have a look into that.
-
Booked in for next week. Fingers crossed it goes well. The RTA did say it's repairable (Whether or not he knew what he was talking about), but hopefully it is repairable, that's my main concern atm. (OP is referring to me).
-
That is a very good question. I know very little about skylines / cars in general. (Just learning). I'll have to ask a mate of mine who will be able to answer the questions. Before I bought the R33, the guy said he had tested a lot of things / replaced and seemed pretty certain that it was the coil packs. I am currently running 1 bar or 0.8. PSR would be around the 8-9? Thanks Rob, enjoying SAU so far, nice people around here. R33 is the way to go ! edit: It has new plugs as far as I'm aware (As of 3 weeks ago, pre-purchase). edit2x The Mate: It's got a stock ecu, it's also running a dual stage boost controller which I think it's installed incorrectly. I also think the fact that you got 3x yellow jacks coils and 3x standards.
-
Yeah, I was going to do the 1by1 but I thought the rest will follow soon after, so was going to purchase a whole new set of splitfires. The R33 S2 takes a specific set (cannot use S1). Yep, from Canberra.
-
Thank you Luke, I've got some future plans for it. (As I'm sure everyone does with their new toys haha). Thanks Richard, loving it so far !
-
Hopefully so ! The R33 is gutting out at 3,000 - 5,000 RPM.
-
Anyone have a set of coil packs for a R33 Series 2? Splitfire preferred.
-
Hey, So, I'm new to the scene of Skylines and have just recently bought my first skyline (R33 GTST Series 2). Took it over the pits...and let's just say the repair work is going to cost more then the actual price of the skyline, but none the less, I accept the project. I know nothing about Skylines, let alone cars in general. I am learning from a few mates and will be browsing the forums to get my "know-how" in tune. First time driving a turbo and I can safely say that I had a massive smile all the way home (2.5 hours) from picking it up. It's Pearl Orange (I believe) and illegally loud haha. The original plans was for the car just to be a run around car for work but given the circumstances (damage chassis) it looks to be a project car, but nonetheless I'm looking forward to learning more about these fascinating cars. I do admit, (If I dare) that I am a Holden man (Not bogan) but I do respect Nissan's and the power they can produce. Again, I look forward to learning about these type of cars and I'm sure the Bank is going to love my interest rates. Here are some Carsales pictures:
