  1. It's very hard to be bluntly honest in an open forum, but there are a lot of better Skyline dealers than Envy... Try Prestige at Balgowlah, they usually have a nice range of cars & seem like straight up guys to deal with - I didn't buy a car from either of them because I found the right car privately.
  2. Last week I installed: Panasonic CQ-C9800U CD player with 4 x 60w digital amp Focal 136v polyglass splits (135mm) Decware DBII 'Deathbox' bandpass woofer box Sony 10" dual vc ex-plod woofer (used, sounds fine for $100) The Panny uses Tripath digital chips, and puts out a real 60w rms / channel. The sub box is about 450 x 325 x 325 so it's not small for a single 10, but it does sound good. The box is adjustable (to suit different woofers & cars) so maybe I can build a smaller one that goes in the battery compartment. This system isn't loud; I'm used to 2 x 12's in a 120 l sealed box & 3 big amps. That stuff added a LOT of weight to the ol' VL... I'm not doing that again. Z
  3. In general, no it won't work. The stacker needs to be the same brand & vintage to work, although Sony & Kenwood used to be compatible years ago... If the plug is the same it's worth a try, but don't buy anything without seeing it work. You'll just have to budget for a new stacker too. Damn! Z
  4. Generally, if lights behave in a loopy way, particularly if it's interconnected, check your earth. The interconnected problem is because a globe is getting it's earth through another globe that has a better earth. So check all your earths, both sides - remove & replace screws etc, you might have to sandpaper some rusty connections. Also you might want to try some non-lubricating switch cleaner on any Molexes. Z
  5. I just bought a really nice dead stock '95 R33 for ~$18K, plus about $1300 to tidy it up. It feels young & strong - I expect to get a few low maintenance years out of it. So I'd vote for a stock(ish) R33! Z
  6. Yes, exactly. I just sold my VL turbo with ~200,000 KM on it, 5,000 km oil change, always Mobil 1 & never caned when cold - it felt as though it had a lot of life left in the engine. That was the best bit of the car... So I'd say stock RB turbo engines are potentially long lived, but if you boost it maybe not. But a fool can kill any engine, my mechanic once showed me a 3 year old Civic, 45,000 km & run dry of oil - full rebuild out of warranty - OUCH! Z
  7. I recently bought a stock 1995 R33, I benchmarked it against the nicest dealer cars I could find. Privately I found a 1995 which seemed to have an honest 75k km on it for $18k. A bit scruffy but $5K cheaper than a similar car at a dealer. All the S2's I looked at seemed overpriced compared to dealer S2's - detailed with warranties... but I did miss two at just below $20K which sold real quick! I doubt there are $15k GTS T R33's worth owning, & I doubt that too many R32 GTS T's actually change hands for the big bucks people asking. I was looking for a daily driver so I was after a stocker, YMMV. Z
  8. Hi all, I need a panelbeater to fix a couple of little scruffs on my new car & I'd prefer to deal with someone local, someone I can trust NOT to 'take it up the shops'. And of course get the job right. The back bar has a rip about 100mm long; one guy has said 'replace it' but he's been out of the trade for a few years so maybe technology has improved... cheers Z
  9. The bit I really want is the trim for the driver's side armrest, which seems to be worn on every car I've looked at, and maybe the front & rear bars. I get the feeling the door trim will need to be new, the one on the car now isn't bad, just that it's the only part of the interior that's not new looking. This car's my new baby & I'm gonna be pedantic about how nice it looks for a while... I have to get a quote from a panelbeater for the bars, the front one is scruffy with a couple of small cracks but the back bar has a 7 or 8 cm rip in it. I'll look for a stock rear bar at least, unless the panelbeater says it'll be an easy fix. Z
  10. Hi All, Been lurking here for a while researching my new car, which I bought this morning. A stock 95 R33, what a mighty car! For an off the shelf car, no mods, it's so quick & civilised. I drove my old VL turbo home from the mechanics this arvo & it felt slow & floaty... I'm very glad I came across this forum, it's helped me a lot. Thanks. Next step is to detail the car, it's a bit scruffy. I need some pointers to where I might buy some trim parts. Z
